In today's episode I had the pleasure of speaking with Dr. Aaron Turner (www.onethought.com) and Rabbi Shaul Rosenblatt (www.3puk.org/team/shaul--rosenblatt). We explore what is possible when we see our natural ability to live and work in a clearer, healthier state of mind. About Dr. Aaron Turner: Aaron founded One Thought to bring an appreciation of this understanding to the mainstream. He has also been developing and providing practitioner training since 2014. Aaron has been a partner in designing and presenting the largest Three Principles conference worldwide since 2010. He is a founding board member of the 3PGC and currently its president. He has sat on a number of government advisory groups. He is a published author, international speaker and lives with his family in London. Inspired by the Three Principles discovered by Sydney Banks and twenty years of pioneering work with individuals, organisations and businesses, One Thought's programmes provide a working understanding of our natural ability to live and work in a clearer, healthier state of mind. A better understanding makes a big difference; leading to real, sustainable change. About Rabbi Shaul Rosenblatt: Shaul founded Aish UK in 1993 and Tikun UK in 2006. Since 2017 he has been running the Rabbinic Training Academy, developing a more human and more wise generation of Jewish rabbinic leadership. Shaul is also founder and co-host of the 3PUK Conference, the largest Three Principles conference in the world.
Yesterday I was listening to a talk from Sydney Banks on "The Power of Thought" and I wanted to share some take-aways from what he shared. Some of the key points in today's episode are:Becoming conscious of what you think is always the first stepIt's not what you think but that you think that is so important to rememberYou can't help thoughts that pop into your mind, but you can choose to stop or continue to think themWhat makes for a happy life?Everyone has their own alignmentActing on positive thoughts creates a positive life, acting on negative thoughts creates a negative thoughtListen to learn more on the power of your thoughts.Ps. Thriving Adoptees - Inspiration For Adoptive Parents & Adoptees
So many of us feel broken. And that hurts like hell. How would it feel to be whole? A whole lot better. Listen in as Daryn shares his learnings from a very counter-cultural take on wholeness from adoptee Sydney Banks. Daryn really stretched me - in a good way - and that helped me to new insights. We both hope it catalyzes new insights for you. Here's a bit about Daryn from his website:Hello! My name is Daryn Watson, and I am a reunited adoptee. My adoption reunion journey began in 1995 at the age of twenty-five when I began searching for my maternal family. Less than eight short weeks later, I found my birth/first mother. Our first telephone call was on October 9th, 1995, which happened to be Canadian Thanksgiving Day. I will never forget that phone call. For the first time in my life, I felt truly whole and complete!Despite reading several books on adoption, I wasn't prepared for the overwhelming emotions and experiences reunion encompasses.I would be full of joy one minutes and the next I would feel grief, overwhelmed or angry the next moment. Adoption Reunions are often referred to as riding on an emotional roller coaster. These emotional up and down swings can last for weeks, months or even years.Going through my adoption reunion journey made me realize that it's too much to deal with it by yourself and too difficult to do it alone. Thankfully, I was able to find a support system to help me navigate the emotional upheaval that occurs within adoption reunions. That is why I started Adoption Reunion Coaching. I really want to be that support system for others who are going through the same journey that I did. I went through this journey, I lived through it, I've learned how to navigate the journey and I can teach other people how to do so and make it less traumatic.I am a contributing author to two books. “The Adoptee Survival Guide” and “Adult Adoptees Anthology: Flip the Script” I was also published in an article for “Adoption Today.” I use my experiences as a reunited adoptee to guide others through their Adoption Reunion Journey. https://www.adoptionreunioncoaching.com/https://www.facebook.com/AdoptionReunionCoaching https://www.instagram.com/theadopteemind/ Guests and the host are not (unless mentioned) licensed pscyho-therapists and speak from their own opinion only. When the event hosts asked me to deliver the final keynote speech at this year's Viva Event, I asked them what gift they'd love the participants to walk away from the conference with. Their answer inspired the title of my talk: Troubleshooting Enlightenment - How to Keep the Feeling Alive When You're Back in the Real World. During the talk, I shared: What gets in the way of that feeling staying with you, How to 'reconnect' to the principles, even in the midst of life's challenges, Practical insights to help you keep showing up with clarity and ease, and Insights for those looking to share the 3Ps professionally. So I invite you to ask *yourself* this question if you've ever wondered where the feeling goes: Q: How do you keep ‘the beautiful feeling' alive when you're back in the real world? This is exactly what today's episode is all about, featuring the full recording of my keynote. When I listened to the recording myself, I picked up on the Viva vibe of fun and playfulness throughout the episode. As well as being really enjoyable (if I say so myself) I heard from multiple people that they came away from the session with a quiet mind and new, fresh insights on the principles and what they make possible. There's something else you'll find relevant if you're a coach or therapist: During the talk, I asked who had asked themselves these questions: Why doesn't everyone know this? That's the question I hear most often from people when they first catch a glimpse of the principles, followed by... How can I get this out there? It was almost everyone in the audience (around 200 people). So, during my talk, I shared some of the distinctions and 'mindsets' that can make you unusually good at having a transformational impact with this understanding and experiencing more of the feeling in your own life. Because as Sydney Banks said: “The more you help others, the more you help yourself. Believe me, that's really true. The more you help others, the better the feeling you will get.” Delivering this speech made me realize how much more we can do to bring these insights into practical, transformative action for ourselves and the world. My team and I are already moving in this direction—more to come soon.

People sometimes assume that if they really "saw" the Principles, they would always be happy. The truth is, understanding the Principles that describe how we create experience does not lead to any particular emotional outcome; it simply leads us to accept the rollercoaster of life's ups and downs and the range of emotions we feel as they occur as natural and ever-changing. We do not need to think ourselves into reaction to our own states of mind and responses to life events. We don't need to "pretend" to be unaffected by negative events. We ride the waves without worrying about them. So, even when we are having negative feelings, we don't get frightened by them, or worried that they will never pass, or concerned that people will judge us. Life, as Sydney Banks told us, is "a contact sport." We're meant to take part and experience the thrills, the spills, the wins and the losses, the hurt and the joy as grateful participants in the experience of being a human being. It's not necessary to fight our feelings when we don't enjoy them; they will pass as life continues to unfold. Pain is pain; suffering is the way we are thinking about the pain.Support the show

Seek Yourself First. In this conversation, John David Whalen interviews David Key, a world-renowned coach and practitioner of the principles originally articulated by Sydney Banks. They discuss the crisis of mental health and the possibility that human beings may be looking in the wrong direction to resolve it. David explains that throughout history, human beings have often believed things that turned out to be untrue, and he suggests that the same may be true for our understanding of mental health. He emphasizes the importance of understanding the principles behind our experience and the power of thought in shaping our reality. David also shares his definition of love as a feeling of connection and the importance of finding peace of mind. The conversation explores the idea of personal transformation and the role of understanding in relationships. It emphasizes the importance of recognizing that our experience is created through thought and that we have the power to choose which thoughts to engage with. The conversation also touches on the purpose of life and the potential for a shift in consciousness. The 3 Principles Global Community hosted this conversation and 3 others to discuss and explore quotes from Sydney Banks. Sydney Banks (1931-2009) was an ordinary man who had a profound enlightenment experience in 1973. He went from being a welder with a 9th grade education to becoming a world teacher. This week's show is with Ian Watson. Ian is an educator, author and facilitator who has worked in the field of well-being, holistic healing and inner transformation since 1988. He has travelled extensively giving seminars, courses and retreats around the world. Ian became widely known as a speaker and writer in homeopathy, which he taught and practised until 2003. He subsequently trained in a wide variety of psychological and emotional healing disciplines in the following decade. Ian has been a lifelong student of the work of Joseph Campbell, Carl Jung and the great spiritual traditions of the world, taoism and zen buddhism in particular. In 2011 he discovered the work of Sydney Banks which has been pivotal in aligning his psychological and spiritual understanding together with his holistic approach to health and healing. In this conversation, Ian and Lian journeyed into the topic of balancing the descent to soul with the ascent to spirit, or said differently, the transcendent path versus the path of knowing oneself. They explored the transcendent aspect of the mythological journey and the integration of the spiritual and earthly realms. Lian and Ian both share personal experiences of the transcendent and discuss the role of the Three Principles understanding in making sense of these experiences. They also explored the Western focus on individuality and the importance of heeding intuition and wisdom in order to follow the path of our own soul. The conversation highlights the need to balance the transcendent and earthly realms to live a spiritual life in the physical world. I'd love to know what YOU think about this week's show. Let's carry on the conversation… please leave a comment below. What you'll learn from this episode: The mythological journey can take us onto seemingly contrary paths that honor both the transcendent aspect and a descent into the human experience and our unique bodies and souls. Following intuition and wisdom can lead to a deeper understanding of one's path and the integration of the transcendent and earthly realms. Living a spiritual life involves recognising the sacredness of the earth and the body. Remembering and forgetting is a natural part of our experience. People often express confusion about Sydney Banks' advice to "just be yourself; be ordinary." They hear it as if it means "mediocre" or "not realizing your potential." Actually, the deeper meaning of "ordinary" is "part of the order of things," and that is what we point to with the Principles. Everyone comes into life with extraordinary gifts: the divine universal energy of Mind powers us to be able to create Thought and become Conscious of our Thoughts as our reality. To be ordinary is to be comfortable in your understanding of the order of things and the power you have to use these gifts to create the life you want. That's special, but it's available to all people, so it's ordinary.Support the show
We all need a little calm in our lives, and our guest on the show is Clare Downham, who went from being a burnt-out teacher to becoming the queen of calm. Not overnight, of course; there is a story to be told. Her recovery came once she discovered a place of calm by stripping back rather than adding more. It was the application of the three principles and the realisation that reality is not what we think it is. The three principles are a tricky concept. They inspired Sydney Banks, a Scottish Welder from the 1970s. He was living in Canada and struggling with insecurity. While attending a weekend course, a passing comment about thoughts opened a door in his mind. I have been exploring the principle for many years. It is an incredibly simple concept but really hard to implement and explain. Queen of Calm Clare is a great storyteller; her original plan was to be an engineer, and she learned to weld, cut and mill metal. But the science of engineering was not her thing. In a 180-degree shift, she went into the humanities and on to do a teaching degree. She met her husband, became a teacher and set about the process of building a life with a family. Hungry to succeed, she took all of the promotions she could get, moving quickly into school management. Nothing in the training teaches you to manage a school. How does a van with no wheels end up blocking the school gates, and more the point, how or who gets to move? We explore what caused her to go off the rails and how self-care may have prevented her eventual burnout. It is a lovely conversation with a woman who has been on the journey of life and realised that reality is not what it seems. We get to explore the three principles, something I have wanted to do but never had the confidence to do on my own. **This week we are pulling a favorite out of the archives...our conversation with Elsie Spittle.** The incredible Elsie Spittle joins Kate & Wyn this week. Elsie shares how she first began to touch the quiet, the stillness and the joy that is part of our nature as human beings. She chats about her friendship with Syd Banks and how his easy joy of life opened up the possibility of happiness for her own life. Elsie shares stories of witnessing how our innate wisdom and mental health can show itself in any situation, as soon as we touch the quiet under the noise. She reminds us that we are all so much more than we think. Elsie's Bio & Contact Info: Elsie Spittle is an internationally recognized speaker, mentor and author. Elsie is in the unique position of having known Sydney Banks, originator of the Three Principles, before he had his epiphany. She witnessed the extraordinary change that occurred in him and the unprecedented impact his work had on thousands of people, and how this has brought about a new paradigm in the fields of psychology and psychiatry. Elsie had the privilege of receiving “on the job” training directly from Mr. Banks. She is considered the first formal teacher of the Principles, after Sydney Banks. For over four decades she has devoted her life to sharing the Principles with the world. Elsie is co-founder of the Three Principles School, based on Salt Spring Island, BC. I'll set the scene... you get back from 'that event' and you didn't drink! In fact, you smashed it! But then... bam drinking thoughts! WTF is up with that? Today we're going to explore the why and the what to do about it if it happens. There's something in here for everyone no matter where you are in your journey!
Clients often say, "OK, I understand the Principles: Mind, Consciousness and Thought. We create our own thinking and then see it as real via Consciousness because of the formless power of Mind. But I still don't feel any better." The Principles are words, metaphors that explain the logic of how human beings come to experience reality. "Learning" that intellectually does not in any way change people's experience. UNDERSTANDING the Principles at work arises from finding the deeply spiritual feelings of contentment and love. Then we REALIZE the Principles at work, and see for ourselves the power of creating our realities. That's why Sydney Banks always urges us to "listen for the feeling." Support the show
For 50 years, since Sydney Banks first shared his profound insight into how the intelligent energy of creation manifests in human beings as the power to think, to create our unique experience of life, some people have called us a cult. Mr. Banks spent his life telling people not to be followers, but to find their wisdom and insight to guide them through life. He shared what he saw about the innate health within all people. He refused to give advice, and avoided any situation in which people tried to make this about him personally, not about his discovery. We are people who all see the beauty and power within everyone, and point people to their innate capacity for peace and joy. No one tells us what to think or do.Support the show

Dr. Mark Howard was a traditionally trained psychologist and used various approaches in his work until he listened to Sydney Banks, about 40 years ago. It changed his life. Mark saw that in his traditional training, he was taught to honor and respect feelings. But his first big insight was that feelings are made up and just a reaction to thought. Mark no longer sees himself as a psychologist and just shows up in service of others from a place of Love and Understanding. The 3PGC's podcast called “We're Listening. Gratitude is a deep and beautiful feeling filled with love and appreciation for life itself. We all learn as we grow up to be grateful for people and things, to say thank you for presents, to express thanks for our blessings on special occasions, to link our gratitude to special things and people and places. But true gratitude is a profoundly spiritual connection to the joy of just being. In the words of Sydney Banks, "Gratitude and satisfaction have wonderful effects on our souls. They open our minds, clearing the way for wisdom and contentment to enter. Once you become grateful, the prison bars of your mind will fall away. Peace of mind and contentment will be yours." (The Missing Link, p. 131)Support the show
With Cathy Casey and I speaking at the “A Slice of Happiness” upcoming conference I wanted to rerelease her episode from earlier this year.Cathy had the honor of being a student of Sydney Banks. She has worked in all venues, from prisons to corporations, large groups to individuals. Cathy's passion for sharing the 3 Principles is fueled by her belief that understanding even a tiny bit of what the 3 Principles point to can change lives. Her sense of humor is contagious, as she shares her stories, new ideas, and interests. The 3PGC's podcast called “We're Listening. A Community Where All Voices Are Heard” hosted by Rob Cook. It's a challenge for people living in a world where people keep saying "Think about it," "Keep working on it, you'll figure it out;" "You just need to give it some more thought!" to resist the temptation to work hard at figuring everything out. Figuring out what's wrong with them, figuring out HOW to DO rather than looking to SEE and KNOW. The effort to keep on trying to figure things out keeps us from quieting our minds and realizing the wisdom always accessible to us. When we find our inner, spiritual strength, though, answers come to us effortlessly and we know them by the good feeling they bring. Wisdom, as Sydney Banks said, arises from deep within our own consciousness. We would add, never from the memory bank we call the intellect.Support the show
The theories and techniques in traditional therapy tend to focus on details of people's problems, and how to find resolutions for various aspects of problems. Because people focus on the details, problems expand as they think about them, remembering more details. Sydney Banks wrote (in Second Chance) "The details are simply proof to the ego that the problem exists. They perpetuate the situation you are trying to get rid of." Details are memories, stored in the intellect. The answers to all our questions arise from wisdom, fresh thoughts arising from a quiet mind in a good feeling state. Our approach is to work from wisdom to draw clients into the moment in a good feeling, and await their insights.Support the show
A mind is a powerful tool, but it's not who you truly are. "We are so much more than our mental illness. We are so much more powerful."- Joe FletcherJoe Fletcher is the communications manager of Mental Health Transformations. Joe has been diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, OCD, and Aspergers Syndrome and was on antidepressants for 25 years. He recently realized that his thoughts created his reality and that he has the power to change his thoughts and, likewise, his reality. This realization led to a profound experience of love and connection, which changed Joe's life. Joe is now dedicated to helping others realize their inner power and potential. This is Joe Fletcher's story—Joe Fletcher became part of Mental Health Transformations after a long journey with mental illness. Joe was diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome at age nine, which led to further mental health issues, including OCD and Aspergers. Doctors told Joe that he would never get better, but he found hope in a book called Anatomy of an Epidemic. This book made him realize that he could change his reality, and he began to see the world in a new way. He then found Sydney Banks and the Three Principles, which profoundly affected him. He started to see mental illness as a misunderstanding, realizing that he was not a slave to his thoughts and, more importantly, was not broken. In this episode, you will learn the following:Joe's journey of self-discovery, including his experience of a sudden and profound shift in consciousness The power of thought to create reality The spiritual nature of humanity and the potential for everyone to connect with their true nature of unconditional love. It's easy to confuse "FEELING" with what people commonly understand as their "feelings" -- what we would call emotions. When Three Principles practitioners talk about listening for the FEELING, we are talking about what Sydney Banks called "the silence of our minds." The FEELING that comes when our minds get quiet and we are open to wisdom is peace of mind, contentment, ease, a sense of connection to the energy of life. It is not an emotion; it is quietude. Paying attention to our ever-changing emotions to search for the FEELING there is pointless. The FEELING of peace is before thought. Feelings are shadows of our thoughts.Support the show
