In this week's conversation between Dr. James Emery White and co-host Alexis Drye, they discuss a difficult subject that has so many nuances - suicide. And they prayed that they'd handle today's conversation delicately. The previous podcast episode - CCP183: On Counseling and Therapy - provided a segue to this subject since, along with the rise in those seeking counseling, there has also been a nationwide rise in the number of deaths caused by suicide. And the big question most often asked by those within the Christian faith is: Is suicide an unforgivable sin? Episode Links Dr. White shared some data from the CDC which found that from 2002 to 2022, the rates of suicide increased by 30%, and that in the year 2023, suicide became the 11th leading cause of death. As Dr. White noted, suicide is considered a form of murder - it is the killing of yourself - and violates one of the Ten Commandments. Dr. White gave a series at Mecklenburg Community Church called “Ten,” which looks at what the Bible says specifically about each of these commands from God. You can find that series on Church & Culture HERE. The conversation also explained the idea of apostasy - the act of abandoning one's faith. If you missed it, we'd encourage you to go back and listen to CCP131: On Losing Your Salvation. Another past podcast episode that is relevant for today's conversation is CCP48: On Medically Assisted Suicide. Finally, Alexis mentioned a book written by David Biebel and Suzanne Foster called Finding Your Way after the Suicide of Someone You Love: Help and Hope for an Unexpected Journey that many of our listeners may find helpful if they've lost someone to suicide. For those of you who are new to Church & Culture, we'd love to invite you to subscribe (for free of course) to the twice-weekly Church & Culture blog and check out the Daily Headline News - a collection of headlines from around the globe each weekday. We'd also love to hear from you if there is a topic that you'd like to see discussed on the Church & Culture Podcast in an upcoming episode. Have you ever found yourself helping a loved one through a confusing medical situation and thought, "I wish I could do this full-time"? You're not alone. Many physicians are naturally drawn to patient advocacy and navigation, even if they don't yet realize it has a name or a career path. In this episode, I'm joined by Dr. Angie Ingraham, a former trauma surgeon and critical care physician who made a powerful career transition after her father's diagnosis with glioblastoma. Experiencing the healthcare system from the other side opened her eyes to the gaps patients and families face. That journey led her to launch True North Patient Advocates, where she now supports others through complex medical situations with clarity and compassion. Whether you've thought about becoming a patient advocate and navigator — or are simply curious about what this work actually involves — Angie shares the real-life steps she took to create a fulfilling and sustainable new path. In this episode we're talking about: How a personal family crisis led Dr. Ingraham to explore patient navigation The surprising barriers patients face, even with medical connections What professional patient advocates and navigators actually do and how physicians are uniquely qualified How she built her business without formal business training The variety of clients and services in her day-to-day work Financial considerations and typical rates for advocates Steps you can take to explore this path for yourself You can find the show notes for this episode and more information by clicking here: www.doctorscrossing.com/episode236 Links for this episode: Dr. Angie Ingram — True North Patient Advocates Greater National Advocates Directory Alliance of Professional Health Advocates - Offers a Boot Camp and 100-day program for business startup Health Advocate X Patient Advocate Certification Board National Association of Healthcare Advocacy Work Episode #68: Being a Patient Advocate is a Real Option Episode #156: How To Start A Side Gig Or Business As A Patient Navigator

From history teacher to CEO, Dan Peltz never planned on becoming an entrepreneur — but when he saw a gap in how young adults with special needs were supported after graduation, he built something extraordinary. This week, the Blue Collar Twins, Jason and Jeremy Julio, sit down with the founder of Shift New Jersey to uncover how a simple idea turned into a statewide service helping thousands — and ultimately, a multi-million-dollar acquisition. Dan shares how he launched Shift with no business experience, survived losing his investors just six months in, and scaled the company to 40+ employees and over a thousand clients served each month. He opens up about leadership lessons from the front lines — building systems, hiring for personality over experience, and surrounding himself with mentors who kept him grounded through growth. Now serving as Director of Organizational Effectiveness for the company that acquired Shift, Dan reflects on what it takes to balance impact with income — and why sometimes the right move isn't to double down, but to step back.

Breast Pump Ban: It may sound like a headline from another era — but it happened to Dr Elise Turner this week in Melbourne when the mum of twins was told to leave an airport lounge for daring to express milk for her babies. But there’s one crucial detail that most of us missed and which Mia, Jessie and Amelia needed to dig deep into on today's show. And, an update on Bruce Willis’ condition from his wife in her confronting new memoir that hits home for anyone touched by dementia. Jessie shares her personal experience and unpacks the backlash Emma Heming Willis is getting online for the decisions she's making on behalf of her celebrity husband. Plus, Births, Deaths & Marriages. Mia’s got a new segment and a lot to say. From celebrity babies to red carpet chaos, she’s tying it all together… loosely, but entertainingly. Is it an excuse to (scurrilously) gossip about celebrities? Absolutely it is. Does she seamlessly segue into a controversial red carpet analysis? Of course she does. We also cover Trump: The Dibber Dobber and the 17 household habits that will clear mental clutter as much as they will your kitchen bench tops. Light and shade, friends. Light and shade. What if the only thing standing between you and your biggest, boldest dream… is the voice in your own head? There's this tug-of-war between your gut knowing and the “logical” part of yourself that insists you have to figure it all out before you leap. If you've ever felt stuck because you didn't have every last detail buttoned up, you're not alone. We live in a world that trains us to crave certainty, and that pressure can feel absolutely paralyzing. But what if the real power move, the actual leap forward, isn't about having a flawless plan? What if it's about trusting yourself enough to take that first step—even when your head says, “Not yet!” That's exactly the heart of today's episode. Karen Stahl, Owner of Moake Park Group, takes us on her journey from team member to business owner. This episode is a masterclass in courageous ownership and following your intuition—especially in the face of fear and all those “what ifs.” We dig deep on letting go of perfectionism, building trust in yourself, and recognizing that the best growth happens when you step up, even without a safety net. We're talking about a real-life, honest-to-goodness story of leadership that celebrates imperfection, vulnerability, and hard-won lessons. We're here to remind each other that growth is messy, intuition is a superpower, and that you already have more wisdom and courage inside you than you might realize. MJ wanted to watch 'Baby Girl', but Gideon wasn't in the mood so they turned up the heat with an even sexier 'Baby Girl'....Nathan Fielder. Father's Day weekend came and went with both MJ and Jackie having noticed there appears to be no songs about dads that aren't sad dad or sexy dad, MJ remembers catalogues from yesteryear full of items that you could never possibly afford, and then talk 'bout the risin' trend of "raw doggin" everyday life; including Rob Lowe's recent gym workout. For better or worse Sabrina Carpenter is makin' waves with her new albums PR campaign, and Jackie says 'Dangerous Animals' is great, despite not being about a hybrid shark man murderer, Jackie wants to talk about 'The Materialist', but it's full of spoilers so it's comin' after Jackie's Snackies!
