Mentally Fit EP began in 2014 with a collective vision to flip mental illness on its head; to create conversation about mental health and to focus on wellbeing and what is in our control. A group of 'go-getters' came together to create magic. Some of the key players being Kirsty Traeger, Angela Cordon, Jo Clark, Ash Lawrie, Penny Will, Leonie Green, Sue Berry and some of the Port Lincoln Rotary Club members. It started out as an idea to hold a Gala Ball to raise funds to run a program to empower people to take charge of their lives by educating, reducing stigma and up-skilling community members. The "Life is a Circus" Gala Ball was held in October, 2014, at the Port Lincoln Race Course. 10 years later, Mentally Fit EP follows the same vision and goals. The program organises and conducts workshops, this Podcast, community forums, guest speaking roles, courses, events and campaigns, among other things. Holy (insert explicative here)! GGH is 1 year old!!! On 6/9/22 My very first episode rocked the earballs of tens of people! I am busting it out this week for ol' time's sake. I'm 47 today! And today I'm sharing 10 lessons I've learned in the last year.   There's no reason to martyr yourself - prioritize your health and advocate for yourself and your loved ones You can't control people - you can only control your reaction to them You can fall short without it meaning you're a failure - pathologic need to get everything done yet Virtual friends can be as true as friends in real life Systems, strategies and hacks should not come at the expense of letting go Make that trip to see your loved ones now - work can wait It is always quality over quantity - time, number of friends, heck even my wardrobe Outsourcing and delegating doesn't make you less than Being constantly disappointed in others only negatively affects you. Happy Birthday to Grant Writing Simplified! This month I'm celebrating TWO YEARS of the Grant Writing Simplified Podcast! How crazy is that!! I was scared to death to start the podcast two years ago, but here we are over 100 episodes later and it's been a blast. I've met some of the most incredible people all over the world because of it, and some amazing grant writers have gone through the Fast Track to Grant Writer VIP Program. It's been quite a ride. Whether you're new or you've been around a while, THANK YOU for being a part of the journey!!! The Growth and Challenge of Nonprofit Work and Grant Writing Grant writing - and all of nonprofit work, really, is full of highs and lows.  The highs are awesome, like winning your first grant. Or the hundredth! The lows can be pretty discouraging and isolating sometimes. But the thing is, we can't base our value or success on those extremes. See, there's not really a finish line. At every level we're going to have challenges that will stretch and push us. We all started with that first grant. I kept going, kept practicing, and kept improving. Then different projects came along and those presented new challenges.  Then last week I stepped into an ENTIRELY new challenge and gave a TEDx Talk! That was a completely foreign experience for me, but I had a blast and am so grateful for the opportunity. (And I can't wait to share the video with you when it's live!) All these accomplishments are cause for celebration, and the lows are a great education. Strangely enough, though, we may not ever feel like we've “arrived.” Once we reach one level, we're working toward the next. And I've realized that's an important part of the journey. My Very Special Guest Today is Debbie Wileman - Her debut Album is "I'm Still Here" featuring many of Judy's classics as well as other contemporary hits that she believes Judy would be singing today. The album was orchestrated, conducted and produced by Steve Orich, orchestrator of the Grammy Award Winning album, Jersey Boys. This is a story for all of you artists out there who have a dream, but are overwhelmed by the seemingly massive obstacles to overcome to reach those dreams Debbie Wileman rose to fame during the pandemic when all the creatives - got creative! Debbie used her instrument (her voice) as an outlet and created ‘a song a day' which simply were videos of her dressed in character and singing. The videos were posted on her personal Facebook page and were only intended to uplift and inspire her friends in the height of the pandemic (at the time it was 300 some odd friends) Now she nearing max capacity on a personal page! Anywho, back then, she pledged to post 'a song a day' - That went on for 100 consecutive days. Among these videos were her spot on Judy Garland impersonations (in addition to Dusty Springfield, Patsy Cline, Liza Minnelli, Shirley Bassey, Adele, Lady Gaga and many other luminaries). Her song a day videos went viral and garnered over 1 million hits in no time. The videos also caught the attention of Steve Orich, the Grammy Award winning orchestrator (Jersey Boys) and manager / promoter/ producer, Scott Stander. The two of them have produced Debbie's debut album, "I'm Still Here”, a Judy Garland celebratory album featuring her songs and songs that they felt Judy would sing today.
