This week I talk with Athletic Trainer and founder of the Armenian American Sports Medicine Coalition Nicholas Tavoukjian. Nick talks with me about his interesting background and how he got into sports medicine. He shares with us the important work that the Armenian American Sports Medicine Coalition is doing overseas in Armenia. There mission statement: The Armenian American Sports Medicine Coalition (AASMC) is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization with operations in Armenia and within our Armenian-American communities. In Armenia, the AASMC works with Armenian clinicians to advance the field of sports medicine and rehabilitation through educational outreach and patient care. Coach Patrick Nolan is a strength and conditioning coach based in the Denver area. Pat works with Ponderosa HS and Evergreen HS and also does private training with Landow Performance. In this episode we talk about his team based summer training points competition program for Ponderosa High School’s football team (CO) that has improved buy in and competition within the team and his weekly programing. We touch on the National High School Strength Coaches Association and his responsibilities as the Colorado State Representative. Dr. Scott Sailor is Department Chair of Kinesology at Fresno State, former president of the National Athletic Trainer's Association, and NATA 2019 Hall of Fame inductee. Dr. Sailor and I discuss the changing landscape in athletic training education from a bachlor's degree to a master's degree. We discuss his path of volunteering and how that lead to becoming the NATA president and NATA Hall of Famer. California's lack of athletic training regulation is also discussed.
