GG lives in Delaware County New York and her studio and gallery are in Delhi, New York. About my art: I am an abstract visual artist whose artwork is inspired most recently by the local nature existing in the outdoor world where I live. When hiking the forests of Delaware County New York experiencing the colors, lines, shapes, textures and patterns from the surrounding environment they awaken my senses. Seeing the multiple horizons of the Catskills foothills, hearing the sounds of running water from a nearby stream, glimpsing a pair of foxes, deer and other wildlife in the distance, I am captivated by all of the activity within this unique landscape. I search for reminders heart-shaped rocks, multi-colored leaves, wild flowers, or flotsam and jetsam along the Delaware River. These vistas and artifacts forge a memory connection to specific times and places. They are the inspiration for imagery and content in my artwork that is a compilation of visual journaling, painting, papermaking, collaging and printmaking. My process involves working with various media while referencing discovered objects, memory, photo documentation, field guides, global and world art histories. With community colleges offering more baccalaureate degrees, gaps within higher education from the increased demand for college degrees can be met. Additionally, baccalaureate programs at community colleges can center programs around an occupational focus and or labor market demand tied to local economic needs. The increase in degree programs at community colleges can also increase racial equity within the education system through increasing access to opportunities for students in all communities.Learn more about CITI Program at https://about.citiprogram.org/

Ravi, Rikki, and newcomer Micky jump into #TrendyTuesday, looking at four trends shaping our world. First, the trio talk about community college enrollment, which has been plummeting over the past decade. What's behind the drop? And should we invest in reversing it? Then the group pivots to our podcast's most talked about generation: GenZ. Zoomers are traveling in record numbers compared to their peer generations, and many are swiping their credit cards to do it. Are these travel experiences worth the debt? Then we answer a pressing question about the future of remote jobs, which were all the rage during the pandemic (for obvious reasons). But are they still viable for businesses? We figure out the answers (remotely). Finally, we take on the music industry, which has already gone through so many disruptions over the past two decades. Aneesh Sohoni is the CEO of One Million Degrees (OMD), a non-profit that accelerates community college students' progress on career pathways to economic mobility. He joins host Mike Palmer in a conversation about the role community colleges and programs like his can play in opening pathways to opportunity for students in need. We begin by hearing Aneesh's story beginning with his parents' decision to come to America to build a life for their family. From there, we hear of the role community college played in his mother's career and how that connects to the work OMD is doing with students in the city of Chicago. We hear how their model works, connecting students with wraparound services like mentorship, skills training, financial assistance, and more. Furthermore, we learn how recent randomized controlled trials done in partnership with The University of Chicago's Inclusive Economy Lab are validating the results as we look for lessons on how to translate successes in Chicago with a broader movement across the country. The Fresno County District Attorney's Office has declined to file criminal charges against a Fresno man who is alleged to have threatened City Attorney Andrew Janz and Fresno County Judge Gary Orozco. Burton James Enloe, 34, was arrested on Tuesday and booked in the Fresno County Jail on suspicion of making criminal threats and threatening state officials. plus-size influencer has sparked a huge debate over on social media for her demand to have the FAA “protect” those with a fuller figure when flying on planes. Jaelynn Chaney has received quite the reaction from people as she said airlines need to start providing people of her size with as many seats as they need in order to feel comfortable when flying — particularly if the journey tends to last several hours. California community colleges are now offering 4 year degrees, & Fresno City could be next. Employers in every industry want a skilled workforce that is “tomorrow ready.” Employers emphasize the need for employees with specific foundational skills, including digital literacy, competence in Microsoft Office, and the capability to communicate effectively. What which outcomes matter most? In this week's episode, we'll hear audio from a past CERTIFIED Academy: Business webinar. We were able to collaborate with educator veterans Kathy Schmit and Karen Coloumbe, plus Kalama, WA's CTE Advisory Panelist member, Eric Yakovich. Kathy is a 10-year veteran teacher with 25 years of firsthand experience applying Microsoft products in the business industry. Kathy entered the Career and Technical Education field to prepare students for the rigors and realities of the work world. Having been passed over for workplace advancement because she lacked certification or college credentials, she understands the importance and value of certification. Kathy will be the first to tell, in her enthusiastic manner, that certification matters! But above all else she will share with you and make you a believer that certification is for everyone! Karen has taught a variety of Career and Technical Education courses at the 8th -12th grade level as well as the Community College since the early 2000's. Her focus is on expanding hands-on and experiential learning in meaningful ways to add valuable "tools" to the students' toolbox, building confidence and a resume of tangible skills to market in the workplace. Karen has seen certifications used to enhance resumes for those who need to get right to work; as well as to differentiate students working towards competitive internships, scholarships, and college programs. The most significant connection from certification to the real world is understanding how to work to achieve goals using the resources available. Before teaching, Karen worked for over a decade as an Avionics Technician with Boeing, DynCorp Aerospace and the US Air Force on programs including Air Force 1, the B2 Bomber, and multiple F-16 deployments abroad. Eric is the Director of Economic Development at the Port of Kalama, Washington, where he manages properties, marketing, strategic planning, marine terminals, parks, recreation and security. Kalama is his hometown. He holds bachelor's and master's degrees in business administration. He has 30 years of experience in non-profit leadership, as an accountant, finance director and chief executive officer. Mr. Yakovich resides in Kalama with his wife. They have two, adult children and one grandchild. He enjoys time with his family, friends and Husky football. In this episode, we discuss how to map your curriculum and courses to the skills demanded by today's employers. Learn how you can give your students the skills for success in any workplace. True Crime Tuesday presents Triple Jeopardy: Three Strikes: But Not Out with Dr. Rita Ali! Rita Ali was a distinguished Philadelphia socialite and among the few African American women boxing PR professionals who hobnobbed with such famous fighters as Muhammad Ali, Michael Spinks, and Mike Tyson, who is now her son-in-law. Then it all came crashing down when she — along with her daughter and son — was wrongly convicted and imprisoned for allegedly funneling public funds through a partnership between the Sister Clara Muhammad School and the Community College of Philadelphia. The indictment alleged that the defendants profited off of a ghost employee scam to provide adult education classes. “I was convicted and sentenced three times on virtually the same charges for a crime I didn't commit, which amounted to triple jeopardy,” she says. She is the author of “Triple Jeopardy: 3 Strikes But Not Out,” and a life coach and founder of the nonprofit We 2 Matter, which provides resources for previously incarcerated women. Dr. Ali joins TCT today to talk about her illustrious past, why the government focused in on her and her children, prison life, and how she turned a negative experience in prison into a positive experience helping other women who are incarcerated. PLUS, AN ALL-NEW DUMB CRIMES/STUPID CRIMINALS WITH BEER CITY BRUISER! Community conversations can be impactful when it comes to creating change. A common theme for businesses across Northwest North Carolina centers around the ability to recruit and retain staff. Approaching these approaches "the same old way," is not providing the best results when it comes to filling positions and fostering longevity. What are the questions you should be asking as you are looking to build your team? What are employees of today valuing most when it comes to picking a career pursuit? On this week's Mind Your Business we preview the 4th annual Vision Northwest North Carolina economic development summit, set for May 25th in Boone. The theme of this year's event centers around Returning and Retaining Today's Workforce. We'll examine some of the main community conversations around educational attainment and how asking the right questions of your staff can lead to a more efficient way of doing business in the future.Mind your Business is produced weekly by the Boone Area Chamber of Commerce. The radio show airs each Thursday morning at 10:05AM on WATA (1450AM/96.5FM) in the High Country. The podcast version of the program is made possible each week by Appalachian Commercial Real Estate and sponsored in part by Appalachian Regional Healthcare System.Support the show
