It's a crazy story and something that made us both laugh – Gina was told by the HEAD of the private practice association in Colorado that starting her own private practice would be the worst thing that she could do! AND that not accepting insurance would NEVER work – you couldn't write it! Thankfully, Gina didn't listen and instead took on the challenge to prove them wrong, and hasn't looked back. On the show, Gina talked about how she's had to grow as a leader, how to manage toxic employees, and her growth since finding Paul. The guys talk about how Florida has dominated the big three sports in the 2000's and which other schools have gotten close. The Mississippi Braves will have their last season in Pearl this year and Bo talks about supporting the team one last time. MLB legend and five-time Allstar Larry Bowa who won a world series both as a player and then as a coach joins the show on the Farm Bureau guest line. Bo asks Larry about his start in baseball, and the Philadelphia Phillies Wall of Famer says he was cut three times from his high school team because of his size. He got signed to JUCO through summer ball and from there worked his way to the minors then the majors. Never thought about quitting because of his dad who was a minor league player with over 2,000 hits and never got drafted. Bo asked him when he realized he could have a career, and Larry said it was in the minor leagues. He was told he could be a major league utility player, but if he could learn to switch-hit, he would be an everyday player in AAA, so that is what he did and hit around .270-.280 as a switch-hitter. Bo asks Larry when he was with the Phillies when did they realize they were going to be good. Larry says that in the mid 70s they started to play really good but were still missing something. The missing piece was Pete Rose. At that point Dallas Green took over and that is what led them to where they were in the 1980s. After a tough series with Houston, Bowa felt there was really no pressure on them going in the World Series at that point. Bo asks if he still talks to Pete Rose. Larry says he sees him a good bit and that he believes Rose is at peace with not being inducted into the Hall of Fame. Bo wants to know what Mike Schmidt was like as a player and a personality. Raised by his grandparents and later foster parents, Rick Upchurch had his share of ups and downs growing up, however there was no denying the love and support he received from his family and his community in Holland, Ohio. From his grandparents passing away, being held back in the 6th grade, getting his GED and going to junior college hours away from his hometown, Rick learned how to persevere. The Broncos didn't even have him on their radar in 1975, but after a Broncos assistant bet a steak dinner with then-Broncos GM John Randal that Rick would be the Offensive Rookie of the Year, they drafted him in the 4th round. John lost the bet. But he won big with Rick, a guy who showed no fear as a return specialist and could also catch and run with the ball. Rick's list of accolades is long. Our guest today is 80s star, multiple-awards film, and theater actor, and activist, Edward James Olmos.Olmos's roles in films or TV shows like Stand and Deliver, Battlestar Galactica, broadway musical and film Zoot Suit, Blade Runner as detective Gaff, and many others are some of the most memorable of all time and he's still dominating our screens. While I could not resist talking about his iconic roles over several decades, we mainly discussed Olmos' new must-see film, Chasing Wonders. The picturesque Australian/British drama was the official selection at the Adelaide film festival in 2020. The beautiful cinematography of the film was shot over a five years period to authentically capture the coming of age story by screenwriter, Judy Morris. Chasing Wonders is a story of hope, possibility adventure, and overcoming your past – a heart-warming story of a young boy, who, encouraged by his grandfather (Olmos) to live a life of hope and possibility, takes off on the adventure of a lifetime to find the magical Emu Plains. His journey through the lush landscapes of Australia and Spain leads him to the heart of the human condition – learning to acknowledge the complexity of what comes before us but struggling not to be defined by the past. The Hollywood Walk of Famer earned an Academy nomination for Best Actor in the 1988 drama, Stand and Deliver. He gave a stellar lead performance as Bolivian- American educator Jaime Alfonso Escalante Gutiérrez.Olmos filmography is quite extensive. Literally, the man has stayed booked and busy since 1974. He's appeared in over 130 films, TV shows, and plays. One of his outstanding roles is perhaps,  Lieutenant Martin Castillo in the Miami Vice (1984) as a series regular. A fan-favorite for sure. But if we do talk about Lieutenant Castillo we must mention Olmos' role as Detective Gaff in Blade Runner (1982) and a brief reprise in the sequel Blade Runner 2049 (2017). Gaff is the Los Angeles police officer who detains and escorts Deckard (Harrison Ford) throughout his mission as a ‘Blade Runner' to track down bioengineered humanoids known as replicants and terminally “retire” them.Olmos showed the world his versatility in both the Broadway play and film adaptation of the musical comedy, Zoot Suit. The story weaves the real-life events of the Sleepy Lagoon murder trial – resulting in the racially fueled Zoot Suit Riots throughout Los Angeles. Olmos portrays El Pachuco, an idealized Zoot Suiter, who functions as narrator throughout the story and serves as Henry's conscience in both adaptations.Honestly, I could go on and on down Olmos' filmography, but we can't spotlight all of his other spectacular films right now. So, let's get into this interview, shall we?Don't forget to click the links in the show notes to watch Chasing Wonders.Enjoy my epic conversation with Edward James Olmos.
