Six Stars is a weekly analysis of the New England Revolution. Match reaction & previews, club news, rumors, squad analysis, tactical analysis, key rivalries, supporter's culture, academy and MLS Next Pro.
The Revs handed two goals to LA through some pretty clumsy & disorganized defensive breakdowns. They continue to make things hard for themselves with mistakes that lead to key goals. With that loss, the Revs playoff chances are now getting tighter and tighter. Can they get on the right track midweek against Chicago? Thank you for supporting the show. The Revs needed points, but Toronto needed them more. With all the injuries and how hot Toronto has been, the Revs outperformed expectations and took a huge stride toward the playoffs. In this show I'll breakdown how the Revs did it, and what Toronto failed to do to capitalize on a depleted Revs side in thrilling 6-pointer.Thank you for supporting the show. The Revs beat DC United 1-0 for their 4th clean sheet in a row, and back to back 3 points. Hard to take a lot away from this DC match because of Revs injuries, and the quality & tactics of DC United, but 3 points is 3 points. Now they have a tough stretch coming up in Canada where they will be without Henry Kessler due to travel restrictions because he isn't vaccinated against Covid-19. I'll do a short breakdown of what to expect in Wednesday night's 6-pointer against a completely revamped, and seemingly juggernaught, TFC.Thank you for supporting the show. This week the Revs thoroughly outplayed Philly, and still only came away with a point. They weren't ruthless enough in their finishing, and that left the door open for Philly to get a point late in the match off of a horrendous Omar Gonzalez gaf. Also, Buksa is gone... This week the Revs encountered a thunderstorm / tornado delay & played in a high school-like stadium. That's American soccer, for better or worse! We go deep on some encouraging signs from the way this team is playing, but also some new & returning faces who just might be able to help the Revs take off now that they seemingly have their MLS season heading in the right direction.Thank you for supporting the show. Another frustrating blown lead, but if we are being honest, the Revs were a bit lucky to have come away with a point. Still, they needed to create their own luck, and getting a draw on the road in Atlanta is always tough. So, now they have 2 wins and 2 draws in their last 4 matches in all competitions. Buksa is on fire with 6 goals in his last 5 matches. The midfield continues to hold this team back, and something they need to figure out soon if they are going to turn their season around.Thank you for supporting the show. Bruce made some big changes to the Revs shape and lineup, and it paid off big-time as they beat Miami 2-0. The match saw 19 year old Damian Rivera get his first MLS start and first MLS goal. It also saw Miami completely implode with injuries, mistakes, red cards and more. New England really needed that. Thanks Miami!Thank you for supporting the show. The Revs lose another frustrating match to another team near the bottom of the table with their own challenges. The same problems persist week-in and week-out with this squad, and they continue to try and do the same things over and over with the same mistakes, and the same results. When will Bruce make some changes? Thank you for supporting the show. If you like what you are hearing, please give us a rating & subscribe. The Revs picked up a much needed and well earned 2-1 victory over Charlotte FC this past weekend. It was their most comprehensive MLS performance all season. The continued emergence of Justin Rennicks is a bright spot, and the midfield shape looked better than it has all season. Looking forward to DC on the weekend to find out if this is a trend, and if the Revs are starting to figure out their 2022 form. Thank you for supporting the show. Youth player development hasn't really been a focus, nor a strength of the Revs. However, things are changing for the better, and there is a lot of investment happening in that space. This episode will kick-off a new monthly series in which we will dive into youth player development for the Revs, specifically looking at the academy, Revs II, homegrown signings, MLS Next & NextPro. Each month we will dive in and look at the state of development on the Revs, how the teams are doing and exciting things to dig into.Thank you for supporting the show. It's hard to not look at the way the Revs are playing right now and not think they are the worst team in MLS. Especially after losing 3-2 against one of the worst teams in the league, Inter Miami FC. They continue to struggle in creating dangerous chances, and even worse, hit out on the counter time and time again. They really need to right the ship this weekend against a tough Charlotte FC team that Miguel Angel Ramirez is pushing all the right buttons with.Thank you for supporting the show. This week is more a reflection on what we learned about the Revs in the first few matches, than it is about rehashing all the frustration of the last few weeks. Spoiler, but the 3 things we have learned are: They live & die by their midfield shape Dictating pace of play, and point of attack is their super power Revs need to take more changes going forward Thank you for supporting the show.
