President Biden met with the Pope this morning, the first stop on a European tour that includes a G-20 economic summit in Rome on Saturday, followed by a UN climate meeting in Glasgow Scotland. The President left Washington without agreement on his infrastructure and social spending bills but progress was made, and the White House remains optimistic that passage is at hand. Meanwhile Virginia and New Jersey face important elections next week, as voters in those two blue states go to the voting booth to pick their next governors. And Facebook has changed its name to Meta. One thing upon which almost all of Washington seems to agree is that Facebook, or Meta, or whatever you call it, is a problem. National correspondent Susan Crabtree, White House reporter Phil Wegmann, and Sean Trende, senior elections analyst, join Andrew Walworth on today's RealClearPolitics Takeaway podcast.

It's the stretch drive of the California recall campaign, with just one week left to cast your ballot. The top candidates are in an all-out media blitz now, crisscrossing California with a wide range of events. Today, Governor Newsom campaigned in San Francisco at a phone bank trying to turn out Latino voters. Larry Elder had two news conferences, blasting Newsom for the high cost of living and the increases in the gas tax on Newsom's watch. John Cox is on a bus tour through the Central Valley. Kevin Faulconer focused on crime, with a Zoom event with victims' advocate Marc Klaas. All of this, as financial reports, public opinion polls and the ballot return numbers suggest Governor Newsom has the upper hand, and seems increasingly likely to survive the recall.
