Subscribe to Ensemble PSG on Substack for more episodes. For the second match in a row, Paris Saint-Germain will take on a Major League Soccer squad that they should defeat. However, the matchup against Inter Miami comes with a little extra motivation.Joining me on the latest Ensemble PSG Podcast are Daniel and Kris from Battered Herons, and Ethan from PSG Fan Club Boise. We talk about PSG's upcoming match against Inter Miami in the Round of 16 of the FIFA Club World Cup and some of the drama swirling around the matchup. We begin with Daniel and Kris telling us about their podcast, and then jump into their initial thoughts after it was official that Inter Miami would face PSG. With a significant amount of prize money up for grabs to the winning squad, I ask whether that will be a strong motivator for the MLS team.Lionel Messi is obviously the biggest star for Inter Miami, but Luis SuĂĄrez, Sergio Busquets, and even their manager, Javier Mascherano, will be familiar to PSG fans not only because of their careers but also from the 6-1 defeat to FC Barcelona in 2017. I ask about other Inter Miami players who could make an impact against PSG.Of course, we discuss PSG fans wanting to win big against Messi after some of his statements about the club following his departure. We also discuss whether Messi has to deliver an MLS Cup this season. We wrap up the show talking about Messi's impact in Miami, and we give our predictions.Thank you for listening and subscribing. Use the chat feature or leave a comment if you have a topic you want us to discuss on a future show. Allez, PSG!

The LA Galaxy was unable to add any W's to the win column, as they drew 3-3 in a back-and-forth contest against St. Louis City on Saturday, June 14. The Galaxy had opportunities to put this match away, but fell behind once again after sourning their chances. They fought back twice, and seemed destined for three points, when Joao Klauss thurndered home a volley in injury time to deny the Galaxy a second win on the season. With the Galaxy offense finally waking up with three goals and plenty of chance, what will it take to have the defensive end follow suit and put in the performances that took it to MLS Cup last year? Welcome back to another episode of the Third Sub Podcast! In this episode, Alex and Sam are back, as usual, this time to chat all things Vancouver Whitecaps, Vancouver FC and Pacific FC. To begin, they look at the big story of the weekend, and that's the Whitecaps, who suffered a loss they'll want to quickly forget in their first-ever Concacaf Champions Cup final. After defying the odds and making history just to reach this match, one where they had dreams of finishing the job, they instead suffered a nightmare 5-0 defeat vs. Liga MX giants, Cruz Azul, who won their 7th CCC in the process. How did it all go so wrong for the Whitecaps? Alex and Sam try their best to answer that question, as they look at all of the factors that went against the 'Caps in this match, from their squad, travel plans and much more. Once through that, they start to then look forward, as they look at what a result like this could mean for the 'Caps long-term goals, given that they've still got so much to play for in 2025, with a Canadian Championship, Supporters Shield and MLS Cup still all up for grabs. Lastly, they round off the show with a quick look at Vancouver FC and Pacific FC, who both drew Canadian Premier League matches this weekend, but in very different fashion, as they explore. Make sure to check out The Third Sub Podcast on Twitter, @thirdsubpod, as well as on Instagram, @the3rdsub_.

Welcome in for another edition of the Morning Espresso, presented by our friends at Oglethorpe University, Atlanta's premier undergraduate learning experience and soccer powerhouse. Another disappointing night at Mercedes-Benz Stadium for Atlanta United, losing 1-0 to Philadelphia who go to the top spot in the Eastern Conference with the win. Personally, there were things I really liked about the shape change to play two central midfielders ahead of one holding midfielder and essentially two up top, although Miguel Almirón was essentially in a free role. However, it wasn't good enough on the night, the Union earned a deserved (although unlucky) penalty and converted to win 1-0. It doesn't get any easier for Atlanta United next weekend as they host the team level on points with Philadelphia in FC Cincinnati on Sunday night. Hot take alert, I'm a fan of the LA Galaxy announcing Greg Vanney's extension on Friday even though the team is still winless in regular season play in 2025. The negotiations started after Vanney won MLS Cup last December and were finalized recently. With the amount of injuries the Galaxy have tried to navigate this season, including to their 4 top attackers, a struggle was inevitable. A knee-jerk reaction to move on from Vanney after he rebuilt the club into a successful winning team would be the wrong move in my opinion. Crystal Palace earned their first major trophy by winning the FA Cup 1-0 over Manchester City. That will qualify them for the Europa League next year, their first time in a major European competition. Chelsea's women completed the domestic treble with their FA Cup win over Manchester United that saw USWNT members Catarina Macario score a goal and Naomi Girma marshal the backline to a clean sheet.Napoli and Inter both drew in Serie A yesterday, taking the title down to the wire. Their matches will be played on Friday with Napoli holding a one point advantage in the table. If they finish the night tied at the top of the standings, there will be a one-game playoff for the league title. PSV and Sporting won the Dutch and Portuguese top flight titles over the weekend respectively. Aberdeen defender Jack Mackenzie was hit by a plastic seat thrown by his own fans, intended for Dundee United fans celebrating on the field after their win that qualified them for Europe at the Dons' expense. He was bloodied and required treatment, the SPFL called the act "moronic". The great-great grandson of Ford Motor Company founder Henry Ford has become the majority shareholder of Scottish 2nd division side Livingston. Calvin Ford saw his new team win in their promotion semifinal. They will play either Dundee FC or Ross County for an opportunity to earn promotion to the Scottish Premiership. On the Club World Cup front, reports out of Spain indicate that an unnamed Brazilian club has made a "tempting" offer to Cristiano Ronaldo to join them for the tournament. Al Nassr is not in the event and Ronaldo is out of contract on June 30. Al Nassr also missed out on trophies this season and won't be in the Asian Champions League Elite tournament next season. Real Madrid paid the release clause for Bournemouth's CB Dean Huijsen. They have secured their new manager Xabi Alonso for the tournament, are working to bring in Trent Alexander-Arnold for the event as well, and reports indicate they could execute the buyback clause on Como's Nico Paz in time for the tournament as well. They are still chasing a left back too. New ticket options are available at FIFA.com/tickets along with hospitality opportunities at FIFA.com/hospitality.More Espresso coming tomorrow on the SDH Network.

For the Glory KC is back with the 131st episode of the show!Sporting Kansas City made Major League Soccer history this week. While it's not the history that anyone really wants to make, taking zero shots in a game, the part that is historic is they won. No team in the 30 years of MLS has ever failed to take a single shot and still found a way to win.The 1-0 win over the basement dwelling LA Galaxy wasn't easy. Los Angeles had two of their Designated Players in the starting lineup and arguably their strongest lineup since MLS Cup 2024. Despite that, they fell for Sporting KC's first home 1-0 win since August 27, 2022 against the San Jose Earthquakes. The Galaxy's own goal from captain Yoshida, left SKC with a 0.00 expected goals (xG) mark, in victory. The game featured an amazing defensive output from goalkeeper John Pulskamp and center backs Jansen Miller and Robert Voloder (earning Robi team of the week honors). It also featured a trio of injuries for Logan Ndenbe and LA's DPs, Gabriel Pec and Joseph Paintsil. On top of everything else it was Star Wars night and the Sporting KC media game. To cover all of that, guest host Kevin Ferstl of Seven. One Magazine joined me for the show with Sheena out of town (she's back next week).Despite the good results in Kansas City, the same wasn't present for the KC Current who lost 1-0 on the road to the Seattle Reign in controversial fashion. In the Digital Crawl, we touch on a few more topics, including:SKC II continue their strugglesVancouver Whitecaps make CCC finalDesiree Scott's first professional goal! Here is a rundown of topics (and approximate start times):Sporting KC are breaking records - 9:12KC Current lose with controversy - 53:22Digital Crawl - 1:06:28Upcoming GamesSporting KC @ Portland Timbers - Sat. Send us a textWhat does it take to excel as a defender when you don't fit the physical prototype? Michael Parkhurst, who captained Atlanta United to their 2018 MLS Cup victory, reveals how his mind became his greatest strength on the soccer pitch."My brain was my biggest asset," Parkhurst explains, detailing how he compensated for lacking the traditional center back qualities of height, strength, and aerial prowess. This mental approach not only fueled his remarkable professional career but also inspired his current mission helping young players develop beyond their technical abilities. After watching talented academy players fail to earn second contracts despite their skills, Parkhurst co-founded Beyond Goals Mentoring with former teammate Greg Garza. Their organization addresses the immense pressure facing today's young players and teaches the often-overlooked mental skills crucial for success. From building resilience and confidence to developing leadership and emotional control, these tools serve athletes both on and off the pitch. The conversation offers valuable insights for players, coaches, and referees alike. Parkhurst breaks down what makes a great referee from a player's perspective: mutual respect, clear communication, and consistency. He provides practical advice on player-referee interactions, emphasizing respectful dialogue and emotional management during heated moments.Parents will find particular value in Parkhurst's observations about sideline behavior and how it affects both player development and referee retention. His perspective highlights how well-meaning parents often undermine their children's growth by removing opportunities to learn through mistakes and develop decision-making skills.Whether you're a player looking to elevate your mental game, a referee seeking to understand the player's mindset, or a parent supporting a young athlete, this episode delivers practical wisdom from someone who reached soccer's highest levels through intelligence rather than physical dominance. For the Glory KC is back with the 130th episode of the show!Sporting Kansas City continued their up and down form with a loss to FC Cincinnati after a fun win last weekend against the San Jose Earthquakes. Even though the results didn't go their way, it was a pretty competitive game. Many pundits are picking Cincy to win the Supporters Shield, MLS Cup or both and Sporting KC hung right there with them. If not for a "goal of the year candidate," maybe they earn the result. We talk about all the key moments from the Sporting KC game, including Zorhan Bassong's first professional goal, why Jacob Bartlett is taking free kicks, Keven Denkey's ridiculous goals and other random observations.Beyond just the game, it was transfer deadline week for the Major League Soccer primary transfer window and Sporting KC were busy. They made a signing and a trade and set themselves up to be active in the summer transfer window (they have to spend the GAM they acquired). The signing is 22-year-old Mexican American striker Santiago Munoz (more on him here). His arrival cleared the way for Mike Burns to deal William Agada to Real Salt Lake. Willy isn't the only former SKC player to end up in Salt Lake City this week as Johnny Russell also made the move. We talk about RSL as a rival, worse potential destinations (there is only one) and everything else related to those moves.Usually, we count on the KC Current to lift our spirits but somehow nothing went right in KC soccer (including SKC II). Welcome in for another edition of the Morning Espresso from the SDH Network, brought to you by Oglethorpe University, Atlanta's premier undergraduate learning experience and soccer powerhouse.Peter Vermes, one of the longest serving managers in the world, is out after a mutual decision in Kansas City. SKC has not won in their last 13 matches in all competitions, dating back to last September and it has been time for a change. But, Vermes deserved every opportunity and probably and extra chance or two to fix things because of all that he has meant to Kansas City and to the game in this country on the whole. He ultimately couldn't do it and a change was needed, but none of that tarnishes Vermes' legend. He won MLS Cup as a player and coach in Kansas City, won 3 Open Cups as a coach, is 3rd all-time in wins in MLS, and has coached the most games in league history. Beyond all that, as Andrew Wiebe and Aly Trost Martin and many others shared yesterday, he is just an all-around quality person. We'll see what's next for Vermes in the game, and we'll see if Kerry Zavagnin gets the opportunity to replace him in the long-term, he's the interim manager for now.Concacaf Champions Cup gets started again tonight with the quarterfinals. At least one MLS team will be in the semifinals as Miami travels to LAFC tomorrow night to start their series. The LA Galaxy are facing Tigres and Vancouver is playing Pumas. As Niko Moreno has told us on SDH AM (his Thursday 10:30am appearances are always a must for MLS fans), the Seattle Sounders made it official yesterday in signing English winger Ryan Kent.Lamar Hunt US Open Cup 2nd round starts tonight with four matches. The highlight of the round will be in the Scenic City tomorrow night as Finley Stadium will see Chattanooga FC host the Chattanooga Red Wolves for the first time ever. The North Stand has been opened for the match and over 6,000 tickets have been distributed as of Sunday for the big event. The US U17's women's national team got qualifying for the World Cup started on the right foot with a 3-0 win in Trinidad and Tobago last night.Sheffield Wednesday have failed to pay their players for March due to "cashflow problems". This isn't the first time there have been financial issues for the current chairman for the Owls. Lyon is also in financial peril with auditors saying there is "significant uncertainty" over their continued existence. Debt has climbed almost 100 million Euros in the past year and an upcoming IPO and new shareholder financing might be vital to keeping things afloat for John Textor and Eagle Football Group. Premier League, Copa del Rey, Coupe de France, Coppa Italia, Copa Libertadores, Copa Sudamericana, US Open Cup, and Concacaf Champions Cup games all on the docket for today. Atlanta Soccer Tonight will be live on 92.9 The Game after Hawks basketball tonight, starting around 10:30pm. More Espresso coming Thursday on the SDH Network, presented by Oglethorpe University.
