Others object to heavy-handed tactics. And a few say the training doesn't work. School's been back in session for awhile now, but in the run-up to a new year there were a number of criticisms made of school active shooter training. These include: •Students, even young children, are included in the training and they are traumatized as a result. Beyond this, some teachers complain of being traumatized. A final complaint, and perhaps the toughest, is there is no evidence the drills are effective. With lives at stake, Strategos VP Mark Warren responds to these criticisms and shares how training saves lives.

That’s a good question. And Strategos International has an answer – and a solution. Strategos personnel have decades of experience in law enforcement, private security and military security. We've provided education for thousands of schools, churches and businesses. Our S.A.F.E. for Kids child training is for youth ages 5-14, with a maximum class size of 20. It’s relevant for schools, churches, sports leagues, scouting and numerous other child- and youth-oriented associations. We use the field-tested principles of “Scan, Avoid, Fight, Escape” (S.A.F.E.), to teach children: • Situational awareness • How to identify potential attackers and child predators • How to avoid contact with perpetrators • Ways to break free from abductors Part 1: Awareness Children and adults perceive danger differently. Strategos teaches kids to become aware of their surroundings and to understand the potential for danger, but not to live in fear. Part 2: Personal protection This session teaches kids simple techniques that even our youngest students can master. Children can’t win a prolonged conflict with an adult, so our goal is to teach them to fight just enough to escape an abductor. Part 3: Scenarios We put the training into practice with scenario-based testing that builds self-confidence and readiness. ID kits for each student Each student receives a “ChildPrint ID Kit®” along with instructions for each parent or guardian. With the kit, parents can easily create a confidential and comprehensive record of their child’s personal and medical information for use in an emergency. It gives police a complete and accurate description, saving precious time and hastening the search for a missing child. In addition, ChildPrint® includes two pages of important safety tips to help kids avoid dangerous situations. Interested in hosting a course for your community? intruderresponse.com In this podcast interview, Vaughn Baker, president of Strategos International, explains how Strategos is partnering with Sollah Interactive to help employees “PREVAIL” in the workplace. A new training video, geared toward responding to workplace active-shooters, will equip employees to overcome the threat of violence. “We are proud to partner with Sollah Interactive for ‘PREVAIL,'” said Baker. “That title accurately describes all we want to accomplish through this project. “The vast majority of workplaces suffer from a serious lack of training on hostile intruders. We don’t want employees to be left to their own devices, hiding under desks and waiting for a killer to find them. Instead, they can prevail against an active-shooter. But training is absolutely essential. And that’s why we’ve undertaken this project.” “Prevail: Preparing to Prevail” will be available in late 2016 from Strategos online and includes a thorough facilitator’s guide and student materials. Thanks to KCCI and WHO13 Des Moines for their coverage of “Prevail.” Strategos is your source for intruder response training, executive protection and tactical instruction for law enforcement and military personnel. • Intruder response training: We equip the true first-responder (personnel already on the scene) to counter active shooters and other threatening intruders in schools, churches, offices and other workplaces. • Executive protection: We provide executive protection and security for VIPs, CEOs, executives and others high-profile figures. • Tactical instruction: We provide tactical and SWAT training and education for police, law enforcement and military personnel.
