Without them, you'd have bands doing all the work and while that's fine for smaller acts or kids getting their feet under them, it's impossible for major acts touring all over the world. So you'd think an act like Slaughter To Prevail would hire a tour manager that would make sure the people making the shows run would be properly taken care of. Yet according to allegations from the band's (now former) drum tech Thomas Finch, that's allegedly not been the case. In a post on his personal Facebook account over the weekend, he laid out a working condition that at face value seems exploitative, abusive, and likely illegal. And while he claims the band themselves are “all WONDERFUL, fun, loving humans,” his main beef lands squarely at their management. There were so many random acts of kindness that I experienced while traveling in Vietnam and Bali, from people I know and cherish, as well as from strangers. So today I pause, reflect and absorb how powerful it is to receive and give kindness. Our small acts of kindness are often returned with humility, gratitude and graciousness. Kindness generates more kindness. May you offer kindness to anyone you come in contact with. May you receive the gift of kindness, even from unexpected places. Yesterday's special episode generated a lot of questions about the Air India preliminary report. Facts in hand, the Flight Safety Detectives tackle them head on.The preliminary report does not identify any issues with the aircraft that directly contributed to the crash. It focuses on the actions taken by the flight crew. Hear more detail on why the design of fuel cutoff switches makes it unlikely that a mechanical or electrical issue led to the engine shutdown. The most logical cause was action taken by at least one flight crew member.John Goglia, Todd Curtis and Greg Feith address concerns and questions generated from previous Flight Safety Detectives episodes. They continue to use the facts in the preliminary report to describe what happened, particularly the actions taken and statements made by the pilots. The analyses provided by others online and in the media, particularly by airline pilots, often lack a depth of understanding of the aircraft technology, how it works and how it could fail. Rondeaux shares her background in journalism and her journey into understanding Russian geopolitics, particularly through the lens of the Wagner Group and its leader, Yevgeny Prigozhin. The discussion covers the origins of the Wagner Group, Prigozhin's rise and fall, the influence of figures like Alexander Dugin, and the implications of the Internet Research Agency's actions during the 2016 election. Rondeaux also reflects on US policy failures regarding Russia and the future of democracy in Ukraine, the US, and beyond.Candace Rondeaux directs Future Frontlines, a public intelligence service for next generation security and democratic resilience, and the Planetary Politics initiative at the New America Foundation. A writer and public-policy analyst, Rondeaux is a professor of practice and fellow at the Melikian Center for Russian, Eurasian, and East European Studies and the Center on the Future of War at Arizona State University. Before joining New America, Rondeaux served as a senior program officer at the U.S. Institute of Peace where she launched the RESOLVE Network, a global research consortium on conflict and violent extremism and as a strategic advisor to the U.S. Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction. Rondeaux has documented and analyzed political violence in South Asia, and around the world for the Washington Post and the International Crisis Group.
