Who owns the land? Who DECIDES who owns the land? Who has the power to redistribute land ownership? If land ownership IS redistributed, who gets to take possession and who doesn't? And what adverse impact can the reshuffling of land ownership have on our society and our planet?Greg Olear talks to Michael Albertus, a professor at the University of Chicago and the author of Land Power: Who Has It, Who Doesn't, and How That Determines the Fate of Societies, about these and other questions pertaining to the relationship between land and power.Follow Mike:https://bsky.app/profile/mikealbertus.bsky.socialCheck out his website:https://www.michaelalbertus.com/Buy the book:https://www.amazon.com/Land-Power-Doesnt-Determines-Societies/dp/1541604814/Subscribe to the PREVAIL newsletter:https://gregolear.substack.com/about Make America Great Gatsby Again!https://bookshop.org/p/books/the-great-gatsby-four-sticks-press-centennial-edition/e701221776c88f86?ean=9798985931976&next=tSubscribe to The Five 8:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC0BRnRwe7yDZXIaF-QZfvhACheck out ROUGH BEAST, Greg's new book:https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0D47CMX17ROUGH BEAST is now available as an audiobook:https://www.audible.com/pd/Rough-Beast-Audiobook/B0D8K41S3T Would you like to tell us more about you? http://survey.podtrac.com/start-survey.aspx?pubid=BffJOlI7qQcF&ver=short
It was just last week when the Trump administration hit pause on its Liberation Day tariffs — except when it came to China. Not only were they excluded from the pause, they got slapped with additional hikes, escalating what had already started to look like an all-out trade war. Then came Saturday morning's Customs and Border Patrol announcement, which seemed to undercut all of that: nearly 60% of Chinese exports, including smartphones, laptops, and semiconductors, were apparently exempt from the new tariffs. So, what happened? Did the White House backtrack? Was this a walk-back in disguise? The administration scrambled to clarify. Their explanation: those goods are being set aside into their own “buckets” — alongside other key industries like cars and steel — for future, tougher action. These aren't exemptions, they insist, just part of a long-term plan. The reason for the sudden PR push? According to Axios' Mark Caputo, Trump simply doesn't like the words “exemption” or “exception.” He felt too many were granted in his first term and didn't want the headline suggesting he'd lost his edge. But let's be honest: This is hair-splitting. Whether you call them buckets or carveouts, the reality is a significant chunk of Chinese goods aren't being hit right now, and the market knows it. The real question is whether the administration is buying time, recalibrating, or trying to thread the needle between tough-on-China optics and economic stability.Saber Rattling, Delistings, and Peasant TalkIn the meantime, tensions are ramping up. The U.S. is now considering delisting nearly 300 Chinese companies from American stock exchanges — a move that's part economic pressure, part political theater. The legal foundation? The Holding Foreign Companies Accountable Act, which requires financial transparency from foreign firms. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Senator Rick Scott are reportedly behind the push, with Trump expected to lean on executive orders to expedite the process if necessary.Naturally, China isn't taking this lightly. In response, they've begun blocking deliveries of Boeing jets, and the rhetoric has turned acidic. China's Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office issued a statement saying, in part, “Let those peasants in the United States wail in front of five thousand years of Chinese civilization.” That's not diplomatic posturing — that's a full-throated nationalist flare-up, made more surreal by the fact that JD Vance himself had recently referred to Chinese laborers as “peasants” on Fox News. And through all of this, both sides are playing the “we're open to talks, but we won't be the first to call” game. It's juvenile, it's geopolitical theater, and it's exactly the kind of posture that leaves markets — and companies — dangling. What Happens Next? Here's where I land: I don't think we're going back to “normal” with China anytime soon. The issues the U.S. wants addressed — IP theft, forced joint ventures, restricted market access — aren't things China's going to give up easily, if at all. So yes, the tariffs might eventually get reshuffled or reduced. But the era of posturing, of economic nationalism, of strategic decoupling? That's here to stay. The polling shows Americans are broadly in favor of being tougher on China — until, of course, it hits them in the wallet. That's where this whole thing could flip. For now, though, the administration seems fine dragging this out. Tariffs, carveouts, buckets, delistings — it's all part of the same dance. And we're still in the first few steps. At least that's this peasant's opinion.Chapters00:00 - Intro02:14 - US-China Trade War Continues11:45 - Update13:13 - AOC Fundraising Record15:15 - Andrew Cuomo NYC Race17:22 - Brian Kemp's Senate Potential22:22 - Interview with Tom Merritt49:59 - Wrap-up This is a public episode. Dan Perry, former chief of The Associated Press in Europe, Africa and the Middle East, said that Benjamin Netanyahu was acting like an authoritarian leader and was waging a full blown war against Israel’s gate keepers like the Shin Bet chief, the attorney general and the judiciary so he can run an unrestrained government. Speaking to reporter Arieh O’Sullivan, Perry said that Israel was still a functioning state, but was approaching a level of dysfunction and civil war. Have you ever noticed how in moments of stress, when you're feeling attacked or in the middle of a heated disagreement, it's so easy to just lose your cool? When you let your emotions take over, nothing really gets solved. In fact, it often makes things worse. That's where the saying 'cooler heads always prevail' comes in. It's a reminder that when things get tough, it's so important to stay calm. If you don't, you're just throwing more fuel on the fire, and that doesn't help anyone. You can't find any real progress or resolution if everyone's just arguing for the sake of arguing. The key is to keep your composure, take a step back, and try to figure out a solution, rather than just adding to the chaos. It's about thinking clearly and not letting the heat of the moment cloud your judgment. We love you all so, so much!

Dan Jarms // Genesis 9:18-11:9 Sermon notes
Read Online“And so I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my Church, and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it. I will give you the keys to the Kingdom of heaven. Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.” Matthew 16:18–19There are several foundational truths taught to us by this passage above. One of those truths is that “the gates of the netherworld” shall never prevail against the Church. There is much to rejoice over by that fact.Think of the many human institutions that have existed throughout the centuries. The most powerful governments have come and gone. Various movements have come and gone. Countless organizations have come and gone. But the Catholic Church still remains and will remain until the end of time. That is one of the promises of our Lord that we celebrate today. The Church has not remained simply because of good leadership all of these years. In fact, corruption and serious internal conflict have been evident within the Church from the beginning. Popes have lived immoral lives. Cardinals and bishops have lived as princes. Some priests have gravely sinned. And many religious orders have struggled with serious internal divisions. But the Church itself, this shining Bride of Christ, this infallible institution still remains and will continue to remain because Jesus guaranteed it.With today's modern media by which every sin of every member of the Church is able to be instantly and universally broadcast to the world, there can be a temptation to look down on the Church. Scandal, division, controversy and the like can shake us to the core, at times, and cause some to question their ongoing participation in the Roman Catholic Church. But the truth is that every weakness within Her members should actually be cause for us to renew and deepen our faith in the Church itself. Jesus did not promise that every Church leader would be a saint, but He did promise that “the gates of the netherworld” would not prevail against Her. Reflect, today, upon your own view of the Church today. If scandals and divisions have weakened your faith, then turn your eyes to our Lord and to His holy and divine promise. The gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against the Church. That is a fact promised by our Lord Himself. Believe it and rejoice in that glorious truth. My glorious Bridegroom, You have instituted the Church upon the rock foundation of Peter's faith. Peter and all of his successors are Your precious gift to us all. Help me to see beyond the sins of others, the scandals and divisions, and to see You, my Lord, leading all people to salvation through Your bride the Church. I renew my faith, this day, in the gift of this One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church. Jesus, I trust in You.Source of content: catholic-daily-reflections.comCopyright © 2025 My Catholic Life! Today on the Logan Blackman Show we recap each and every game from the divisional round in the NFL Playoffs, starting off with the 'City of Losers' knocking off the Baltimore Ravens by a score of 27-25. We go over everything that happened throughout the game as well as making sure the national media has or hasn't moved the goalposts once again when it comes to Josh Allen and the Bills. We then take a look at the Chiefs 23-14 win over the Texans, discussing Houston's struggles through the game, whether or not the game was 'rigged,' and if Kansas City is truly more unlikeable than the New England Patriots. We also go over the Commanders win against the Lions and the Eagle victory over the Rams before recapping the 2025 National Championship game that saw Ohio State come out on top against Notre Dame by a score of 34-23. With that we credit the Irish for making a valiant comeback as well as dish out some flowers to the likes of Ryan Day and Will Howard. Finally, with both National Championship starting quarterbacks being transfers, we go through and rank each of the top transfer quarterbacks from this past offseason. Enjoy!

Total Soccer Show: USMNT, EPL, MLS, Champions League and more ...
Taylor and Joe dive into the MLS Conference Finals — and chat about some coaching changes and Americans abroad at the end of the show. First, we discuss the New York Red Bulls' win over Orlando City: how did RBNY get the victory? And how surprised are we by their playoff run? Then, it's on to the LA Galaxy's home win over the Seattle Sounders. The Galaxy are through, Riqui Puig is hurt, and the Sounders came up just short. In the third segment, we talk about John Herdman leaving Toronto FC, Vanni Sartini getting fired in Vancouver, and nine different Americans plying their trade over in Europe. JOIN THE TSS+ PATREON!
