It seems that these days everyone knows someone who's struggled or is struggling with infertility. That would be because one in six Aussie couples experience fertility struggles. One in six! How incredibly disheartening and sad is that. Every couple who wishes to lovingly bring a child into the world should have the ability to do so, right? So why are we seeing so many couples struggle with fertility problems?In this episode, we'll be discussing some of the reasons why we are seeing infertility rates rise and what you can do about it to support your fertility outcomes.
In this bite-sized episode, we'll be discussing how to encourage healthy ovulation. Ovulation is the main event in your monthly cycle, not to be confused with your period and it's what you're needing to occur in order to conceive. Ovulation is essentially when your ovary (either left or right) releases an egg.Or in some very rare instances both ovaries release an egg. Interestingly, this is how fraternal twins are conceived but most commonly, you ovulate from just one ovary per cycle. Ovulation also leads to a surge in progesterone. An important sex hormone required to sustain and maintain early pregnancy before the placenta takes over around week 12. Low levels of progesterone are also associated with whacky cycle signs and symptoms such as premenstrual spotting, heavy periods, short luteal phase (the phase following ovulation), painful periods, mood swings, low libido, headaches etc.Low levels are also one of the reasons for implantation failure and can be responsible for early miscarriage. Bottom line, ovulation is super important. Not just for optimal fertility outcomes but for overall health. Whether a woman ovulates or not says a lot about her health status. Welcome to the podcast!For those of you who don't know who I am and are not familiar with what I do, my name is Lacey Maddern and I am a fertility Nutritionist and TTC mentor who is super passionate about helping women to conceive.I understand that our nutrition, lifestyle and environment all play such a massive role in our fertility and as such love to educate and empower women on their TTC journey. I am a mama myself and at the time of recording this episode, have an almost 4 month old. A little boy named Hugo and he certainly keeps me on my toes. I have learnt so much going through my own TTC journey and along with my Advanced Diploma in Nutritional Medicine, I feel I am well equipped to help other women just like you who may be struggling to fall pregnant and/or who feel that they are lacking the key foundations in the all-important preconception phase.I have the mindset that the way we eat, move our bodies, nourish our minds and live our lives in the preconception phase is even more important than when we are pregnant. The reason being is that we have to love and honour our own body first before we can grow and nourish another human. Growing a baby is like running a marathon and I don't know about you but I've never ran a marathon before and there is no way I would just go out and do one expecting to make it to the finishing line without some training and mindset work first right?So why don't we view pregnancy in this same way?There are so many things that can be done before we fall pregnant that will ultimately set ourselves up for the healthiest and most enjoyable pregnancy possible.
