Send us Fan MailFertility advice can be wrong even when the person giving it meant well. In this episode of Taco Bout Fertility Tuesday, Dr. Mark Amols explores how reassurance, incomplete evaluations, and well-intentioned attempts to “save money” can sometimes delay the fertility care patients actually need. This episode looks at the emotional stress patients feel when they realize they may have lost time, the difference between bad intentions and bad outcomes, and why advice like “just keep trying,” “your labs are normal,” or “at least you can get pregnant” can sometimes miss the bigger picture.Dr. Amols also discusses when OB/GYNs can appropriately help with fertility concerns, when referral to a fertility specialist matters, and why good advice should include a reason, a timeline, a next step, and a point where the plan changes. Thanks for tuning in to another episode of 'Taco Bout Fertility Tuesday' with Dr. Mark Amols. Most of us weren't taught that what happens before conception matters. You were told to take a folate supplement, book in when you got a positive test, and go from there. But there's a window of time before you even start trying that can shape not just your pregnancy, but your child's long-term health. The science on preconception care has moved significantly, and most people still aren't hearing about it.This is Part 2 of our six-part Trying to Conceive series. In this episode of The Science of Motherhood, Dr Renee White sits down with Dr Eliza Hannam, GP, International Board Certified Lactation Consultant, and founder of Nurtured Medical, a specialised perinatal clinic in Sydney, to explore what genuinely evidence-informed preconception care looks like. Together they unpack what the periconception window actually means, what testing is available and when to seek it, and what both partners can do to optimise health before pregnancy begins. You'll Hear About:Why preconception health affects your child's long-term metabolic healthWhat a thorough preconception GP appointment coversWhich supplements and nutrients matter most before conceptionHow to read your cycle beyond what any app can tell youWhen to seek fertility support without waiting 12 monthsThe periconception window is a gift of time, and knowing how to use it well changes things. You don't need to be a biochemist to understand it. You just need the right conversation. If you know someone who's thinking about starting a family, share this one with them. 110. Kezia, Mandy, and Carly join us to share their deeply personal experiences with trying to conceive in their 40s. The conversation cuts through the noise of societal "age limits" and the buzzword of perimenopause, replacing clinical statistics with radical authenticity. From overcoming health hurdles like endometriosis and emergency surgeries to navigating the complexities of vasectomy reversals and secondary infertility, these women open up about the "aha moments" that reignited their desire for motherhood and the mental fortitude required to stay the course when the world says it's too late. The episode goes beyond the physical journey, diving into the spiritual and emotional shifts that occur during this "second chapter" of life. Listeners will hear a raw look at the daily realities of "workbench sex," the solitary grief of a negative pregnancy test, and the life-changing impact of finding a supportive community. Whether discussing the nuances of breastfeeding while trying to conceive or the importance of trusting one's inner intuition, Kezia, Mandy, and Carly offer a defiant and hopeful perspective. They remind us that the journey isn't just about the outcome, but about the resilience, education, and empowerment found along the way.Get the resources, transcript and more information about this episode: https://over40fabulousandpregnant.com/episode110/TTC Sisterhood Circle: Join the waitlist and receive the email to sign up!Shop the Show

What do you do when you already have four kids but still feel like your family isn't finished? For Joshua and Abigail Koehler, the answer came through a Facebook article, a lot of prayer, and the NEDC. They're now parents to 22-month-old twin girls born through NEDC embryo adoption. In this episode, they share what it felt like to want more when they already had so much, how their older kids reacted, what the NICU experience was really like, and why they'd tell any couple on the fence to just keep walking through the doors God opens.

In this episode, host Natalie sits down with board-certified psychiatrist Dr. Pooja Lakshman to dismantle the toxic "wellness" culture that leaves women feeling more exhausted than when they started. They explore the hidden architecture of burnout - moving past the superficial world of bubble baths and meditation apps to address the systemic pressures and internal "tiny dictators" that dictate our worth. This is a conversation about why "doing more" isn't the cure and how to reclaim your agency when life feels like a burden you're carrying alone. What You'll Learn: The critical neurobiological distinction between everyday stress and the psychological collapse of meaning found in true burnout. Why your inner critic might actually be a "tiny dictator" and the simple naming exercise that helps you reclaim your mental autonomy. The "Pause, Yes, No, or Negotiate" framework for setting boundaries that account for the real-world costs of saying no. How to use the "Check Engine Light" metaphor to separate structural guilt from your actual moral compass. After failed adoption attempts — including bringing a baby home from the hospital, only to have him returned — Sean and his wife Amber heard about NEDC embryo adoption and decided to try one more time. This episode is their story: the fundraising, the hormone injections, transfer day in Knoxville, and what it felt like when it didn't work. It's honest, it's hopeful, and it ends with a direct challenge to Christian couples who are wondering if embryo adoption could be for them.
Send us Fan MailWhy do IUIs fail, even when everything seems to be done right? In this updated episode of Taco Bout Fertility Tuesday, Dr. Mark Amols breaks down what a failed IUI actually means. He explains the three biggest reasons IUIs fail: sometimes it is just bad luck, sometimes IUI is the wrong treatment for the biology, and sometimes there is a hidden problem that routine fertility testing cannot detect. This episode also covers newer data on IUI success rates, the role of male factor infertility, how age and time trying should affect treatment decisions, when it makes sense to keep trying IUI, and when it may be smarter to move on to IVF. If you have ever wondered whether a failed IUI means something is wrong or whether IVF is the next step, this episode will help you think about it more clearly. Ronit and Vida are the founders of WeNatal, a prenatal supplement company born not from a business plan, but from heartbreak. Both experienced miscarriages around the same time and were given little to no answers from their doctors, so they decided to take matters into their own hands. What they discovered changed everything, including the fact that 50% of miscarriages are linked to sperm quality, something almost no one is talking about. In this episode we cover everything from why men need to be equal partners in the fertility journey, how to read a prenatal vitamin label, what "trimester zero" actually means, and why three months of preparation can dramatically change your outcome at any age. We also get into the emotional side of trying to conceive, the power of stress management, sleep, gratitude, and why going back to basics might be the most underrated fertility tool of all.Whether you're actively trying to conceive, freezing your eggs, going through IVF, or simply want to understand your body better, this episode is for you. Send us Fan MailIn this replay episode of Taco Bout Fertility Tuesday, Dr. Mark Amols breaks down one of the most frustrating questions in fertility treatment: why IUIs sometimes fail even when everything seems like it should work. This is a helpful episode for anyone trying to understand realistic expectations for IUI and when it may be time to move on to IVF. Originally released in 2021. A Match.com message. A Facebook Live wedding during COVID. A zero sperm count diagnosis. And then — twin boys. Gregory and Jennifer File's path to parenthood was anything but conventional, but they'll tell you every detour was part of God's plan. In this episode of the Embryo Adoption Podcast, hear how embryo adoption gave them the family they'd always prayed for.
Send a textIf you're 38, you've been trying for 12 months, and every test comes back “normal,” this episode is your step-by-step game plan for what to do next. “Unexplained infertility” isn't a diagnosis—it's a sign we haven't found the real bottleneck yet, and at 38, time is a real variable. We walk through the highest-yield checklist to confirm what's truly been evaluated (ovulation, uterine cavity, tubes, and the male factor), then cover the common “hidden” causes that don't show up on basic workups—like egg quality/aneuploidy, subtle sperm issues (including DNA fragmentation), endometriosis, and timing problems. Finally, I lay out a clear decision tree for your next move—minimal intervention vs a time-limited IUI trial vs moving to IVF sooner—plus my hard-stop rules, what I would NOT waste time or money on, and the exact questions to bring to your next appointment so you leave with a timeline instead of limbo. Thanks for tuning in to another episode of 'Taco Bout Fertility Tuesday' with Dr. Mark Amols. This episode was inspired by a question from one of my clients inside my Trying to Conceive Accelerator (and I know so many women will relate). We talk about anxiety, low mood, and emotional burnout while trying to conceive, and how I approach these struggles before jumping straight to medication. I break down the gut–brain connection, why gut issues can directly impact mood, and the key areas I look at first. Last year in the United States a baby was born every 8 seconds. That's roughly 3.8 Million babies born last year alone! You don't have to be a fertility doctor to know what that means. Millions of people just like you were trying to conceive. Research tells us that most couples conceive within six cycles of timed intercourse, but many others (roughly 10% of couples) are struggling with fertility. Here's the funny thing about what I do. I want to teach you how NOT to be my patient. Of course, there are exceptions to that statement. But in general, I'd much prefer to share with you what I've learned about preparing for pregnancy in hopes that it makes your journey to parenthood easier. In this episode of Healthy As A Mother, we're joined by Dr. Leah Gordon to explore why so many women struggle with fertility, even when their labs look “normal.”We discuss how hormonal birth control, chronic stress, gut health, inflammation, and nervous system dysregulation can quietly block conception and implantation. Dr. Leah explains why ovulation alone doesn't always equal fertility, how the body's stress response impacts reproductive hormones, and what it really means to support the body before pregnancy. This is a compassionate, root-cause conversation for women navigating unexplained infertility, coming off birth control, or preparing their body for pregnancy, and a reminder that the body isn't broken, it just needs the right support.RESOURCES MENTIONEDWomanhood Wellness Membership: Where functional medicine meets feminine wisdom—guiding you to balance hormones, awaken libido, and prepare for pregnancy with intention.
