Threepcast is a podcast dedicated to everything related to the genre of adventure games, spanning everything from text adventures of the 80s, to the graphic adventure game heyday of the 90s, to the state of adventure games today.
The first Threepcast episode of 2017 is here! In this episode, the Ridgways return to the world of Zero Escape to play the second game in the trilogy - Virtue's Last Reward. We compare the game extensively to its predecessor (Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors), we discuss the effectiveness of the game's new mechanics, and we spend a lot of time trying to untangle the rather complicated time travel that this game throws at you. Next time, we will be reviewing Minecraft: Story Mode. On this special Threepcast minisode, the Ridgways dive into the world of fangames to cover the most infamous pop culture-laden "de-make" of Monkey Island 2... it's none other than M:I-2; LeChuck's Revenge! Within this minisode, we wax nostalgic about early 2000s Internet and the old Klik & Play fangame scene, we re-evaluate this fangame and discuss how well it's aged, and last (but certainly not least), we interview the game's creator Christopher Ushko (via text) to talk about his inspiration for the game and what it was like to make. It's time for our annual spooktastic Halloween episode of Threepcast! This year, the spooks skew towards the surreal and sarcastic as we review the cartoon adventure Tony Tough and the Night of Roasted Moths, a game all about a man and his missing dog (or was it a tapir?) Next month, we return to the world of twisted social experiments and play the second in the Zero Escape series - Virtue's Last Reward. Threepcast begins its October celebration of spooky games with a minisode for the horror point-and-click trilogy that's all about dreams, body snatchers, clown posters, and the art of dodging giant worms. That's right - we're going into a Deep Sleep with this minisode. Elliott, Anton, and Phil dive deep into discussing the game's development history, abandoned puzzles and cutscenes that didn't make it to the final game, and the game's mysterious connection to Monkey Island 2. Discussion includes the history of Zork, how it influenced later games, and whether the game is still palatable for modern gamers. But don't listen to this podcast in the dark - you are likely to be eaten by a grue. Next time, we journey back to Monkey Island for a third time to review The Curse of Monkey Island. In this episode, your Threepcast hosts the Ridgways are joined by Jeff Benson to discuss Spaceship Warlock, the obscure 1991 interactive movie about space, piracy, and everything in between! We also formally announce our very own indie adventure game, The Idiot's Tale! We also pursue many interesting rabbit trail discussions involving Shrek, Mother 3, Robert Altman, Better Call Saul, and Darth Vader wiki facts (some of these actually tie into Spaceship Warlock!) On this episode of Threepcast, we finally get around to reviewing Strong Bad's Cool Game for Attractive People! Do these Telltale episodes capture the thoroughly surreal Homestar Runner universe? Can we determine which episode is the best? Will we stay focused and prevent the podcast from descending into a Strong Bad quote-a-thon? Listen and find out! Next time, we review the 1991 CD-ROM probably-ahead-of-its-time adventure game classic Spaceship Warlock! Show notes: Behind the Bad Chapter 1: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-2YKuzLGmto

Start off 2016 right with an intense Threepcast discussion on The Cave, Double Fine's spelunking adventure game. We also talk about the major news bombs that Double Fine dropped on us this month (Psychonauts 2, Day of the Tentacle Remastered trailer, Full Throttle Remastered), as well as what Telltale has been up to and other various adventure game news. Next month, we jump into talking about the game that single-handedly kickstarted (haha) the whole crowdfunding adventure game movement - Broken Age. In this episode, the Ridgways find themselves trapped aboard a mysterious ocean liner. Their only hope of escape? They must review the Nintendo DS visual novel Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors. Assuming they can escape, next month's episode will cover the Double Fine sidescrolling adventure game The Cave. Show notes: 999 Spoiler-Free Flowchart: http://i.imgur.com/jfRSsYu.gif
Halloween is nearly upon us! To celebrate this most spooky time of year, Elliott, Anton, and Alex review Sierra's most infamous horror FMV adventure game - Phantasmagoria. We also discuss the new Day of the Tentacle Remastered screenshots, recount a pilgrimage to Double Fine headquarters, and enjoy some adjectives with Alex. Next month's game will be the Nintendo DS title Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors.
Elliott and Anton are back to review Simon the Sorcerer, the thoroughly British magic fantasy romp that's not related in any way to Harry Potter. Other topics discussed on this episode include 3DS faceplates, Japan, and the upcoming adventure game news hype of this month. Also, is Simon the Sorcerer secretly nothing but a shameless Monkey Island ripoff, or are we donning tinfoil hats? You certainly won't be able to find out by reading this description! Next month's episode will be a Threepcast Halloween special in which we suffer through Phantasmagoria.
In this episode, Elliott, Anton, and Alex venture into the rain-soaked, noir-steeped depths of Gemini Rue to discuss gunplay, moral quandaries, and Cowboy Bebop cameos.... and also to talk about how incredibly ORGANIC this game is.
What's this??? Is Threepcast really back? It is indeed! In this triumphant return episode of our adventure game-centric podcast, we gush over Day of the Tentacle, our very first experience with adventure games. We also talk about the King's Quest reboot, whether Minecraft: Story Mode will be any good, and how to get LucasArts adventure game characters into Disney Infinity. Also, we read through backlogged (and current!) podcast feedback, and maybe have a surprise guest host or two? It's all you could ever want in a podcast!
Episode 4 of Threepcast begins with our intrepid 'casters discussing such varied topics as community plays, F-bombs, and arthritis mice. Then, E3 and the Grim Fandango remake are discussed (we're so topical!). The guys then cover Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis, discussing the game's puzzles and story, separating fact from fiction concerning the game's representation of the Atlantis myth, and finally arguing whether Fate of Atlantis would have made a better fourth Indy movie than Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. In this week's episode, Elliott, Anton, and Phil kick things off by discussing Desert Bus and getting stuck at the airport. Some podcast feedback is read, and then the boyz cover Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge, spending over half of the podcast discussing the game's memorable ending. SPOILERS WITHIN! (moreso than usual)
In this episode of Threepcast, Anton joins the podcast to cover Loom, the oft-misunderstood LucasArts fantasy adventure. Elliott powers through the Wikipedia article for Loom in a new segment on the show, and Phil discusses the screams of Bobbin Threadbare. Then, the podcast has the longest possible wind-down as the boys discuss everything from superhero movies to pictures of Tim Schafer to spitting contest handles to calling the defunct LucasArts hotline.
Welcome to the pilot episode of Threepcast, a podcast dedicated solely to adventure games! Hosted by noob podcasters Elliott and Phil Ridgway, this episode starts off by delving into possibly the most famous adventure game of all time - The Secret of Monkey Island. What could possibly go wrong?
