I've got a bad feeling about the South Carolina runoff for Darlene Graham. Lindsey Graham's sister led the first round with roughly 32 percent but now faces Representative Ralph Norman. Trump encouraged her to run, endorsed her before she formally entered, campaigned with her in Myrtle Beach, and held a runoff-eve tele-rally. MAGA Inc. spent $827,000 on last-day calls and texts supporting her. Norman is a longtime officeholder with a hardline conservative record who backed Trump but committed the unforgivable sin of endorsing Nikki Haley in 2024.The problem is that Darlene has run an objectively bad campaign, even though the campaign she needed wasn't difficult. Make it all about Lindsey. South Carolina Republicans had already chosen him, and nobody knew him like his sister. She could've presented herself as a caretaker working with his staff to finish the agenda he spent his life building. Every sentence should've begun or ended with “Lindsey told me” or “This is what Lindsey would've wanted.” Erase the Darlene.Instead, she's tried to establish the Darlene show. She's drawn distinctions between Lindsey's foreign-policy focus and her domestic priorities, but if she's going to be anything other than Lindsey's caretaker, voters don't know her. That choice also makes every piece of her own record fair game. Then she delivered one of the biggest gaffes of the midterms when Greta Van Susteren gave her a question about China and she absolutely gagged on it. You've got to know “China bad.” It's a two-word answer. She hasn't done good; she's done bad.Politics Politics Politics is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber. This is also a low, low, low, low, low-turnout runoff. Dozens of people are going to vote, and the people who show up in elections like this are usually the most energized. The most energized South Carolina Republicans aren't necessarily Lindsey Graham voters. Many of them are the people who hated Lindsey Graham and wanted a more purebred MAGA senator. Darlene has the Graham name, but the name was already controversial within the party. Her hedge is Trump. The question is whether Trump can still get those voters out.Trump's average approval is 39.5 percent, with 57.2 percent disapproving. Stinky, bad, awful. If you're in the low 40s, it's bad. If you're in the high 30s, it's terrible. Darlene says she's focused on domestic policy, the economy, and kitchen-table issues, but Trump's economic numbers are even worse: 35.9 percent approve and 60.9 percent disapprove. That's a 25-point spread. Donald Trump has been the wind beneath her wings, but I don't know what kind of draft that endorsement creates anymore, even in deep-red South Carolina.MAGA Inc. has $404 million on hand but spent only $2.3 million through July before dumping nearly $1 million into this runoff at the last minute. A huge cash advantage works best when you define people early, not when you wait until the final days. The energy and the issues are with Democrats, while two supposed Republican advantages — money and redistricting — don't look like advantages right now. If Trump's endorsement and a last-minute MAGA Inc. spending spree can't save Lindsey Graham's sister in South Carolina, that's a bad sign for Republicans far beyond this runoff.Chapters00:00:00 - Intro00:04:17 - College Sports Bill00:08:01 - Darlene Graham00:25:20 - Canada00:30:45 - Iran00:34:18 - Mail-in Voting00:37:57 - Interview with Eric Geller01:09:00 - Wrap-up This is a public episode. Hold your nose for this one, because things are about to get explosive. This week, Trevin falls down a nostalgia rabbit hole after discovering the functional reboot of Slice soda, while Amanda faces every parent's favorite annual tradition: back-to-school shopping. Between the madness and the prices, she may never financially recover. For a special round of Would You Rather, Trevin brings us the incredible story of David Cifaldi, a 32-year-old nurse who impaled himself with a trekking pole and then hiked ten miles to avoid being airlifted. The question: would you rather pay the medical bill or make the ten-mile hike? Amanda brings us two spectacular QVC fails, inspired by the recent viral wig-selling mishap involving Toni Brattin. Would you rather say something catastrophically wrong on live television—or suffer a physical mishap that makes you an internet sensation? Then things get seriously gross. Trevin tells the bizarre story of Mark Mortimer of Lydbrook, England, whose disastrous night involves breaking and entering, a bomb, an explosive bowel movement, and a sandwich that definitely did not deserve what happened to it at the Lydbrook & District Community Social Club. Amanda brings us the strange workplace bullying lawsuit of David Hingst, who sued his former employer Greg Short of Construction Engineering for $1.8 million, claiming years of relentless farting and workplace harassment caused him severe psychological distress. Can a workplace fart lawsuit actually find justice—or is the whole thing destined to become the butt of a joke? With Stinky, explosions, bodily functions, QVC disasters, and enough toilet humor to make you question your life choices, this one is not for the faint of nose. Barker is a cute dog who is very well-trained. While waiting to go outside and do his business in the morning, he runs circles on the rug. This helps him hold on until he can get outside. Suzy thinks it is funny to watch him run, but she doesn't understand why he does it. One day after many snacks and a big dinner the night before, Barker runs his circles but doesn't get out in time. ✔️ Perfect for ages 5+ Sleep Tight!, Sheryl & Clark ❤️

Kerri covers the case of Raymond Edmunds, dubbed "Mr. Stinky" by a cheeky newspaper sub-editor. He was a convicted double murderer and serial rapist who terrorized Victoria, Australia for over two decades. Donna tells us about Eleanor Butler and Sarah Ponsonby, the Ladies of Llangollen. They were two upper-class Irish women determined to resist the fate of conventional marriage, so committed to their freedom that they disguised themselves as men and fled Ireland together in 1778. They settled into a Gothic home called Plas Newydd in North Wales, where their unconventional life together both scandalized and captivated everyone. This episode is sponsored by BetterHelp. Luke's been on the health supplements and Pete's feeling gassy on account of his mānuka honey and apple cider vinegar consumption. Writer, comedian and producer Bob Zmuda has had a busy career, performing, writing and producing comedy specials, co-creating the charity Comic Relief and collaborating with the late (??) great comedian/performance artist Andy Kaufman. Gilbert and Frank rang up Bob at his house in Lake Tahoe to talk about (among other things) his early days as half of the comedy duo Albrecht & Zmuda, his role in bringing the Kaufman biopic “Man on the Moon” to the screen, his controversial new book about Andy's life, and his theory of how his old friend and collaborator pulled off the greatest hoax in comedy history. Also, Eddie Murphy takes a phone call, Tony Clifton (or was it Jim Carrey?) invades the Playboy mansion and Garth Brooks (almost) portrays Bob on the big screen. PLUS: The ventriloquist team of Dick & Stinky! Larry the Lobster gets a reprieve! Gilbert gets the axe at SNL! And a surprise guest crashes the podcast! Learn more about your ad choices.
