Word of Life is the radio and podcast ministry of Richard Schork. Richard is the senior pastor of Calvary Chapel Monrovia in Monrovia California.

Do you know someone who is a little flaky? Maybe it's hard to make plans with this person, or you just can't count on them to do something they said they were going to do. Well, it may not seem like a life-or-death character flaw, but Pastor Richard teaches you today that this kind of behavior is a poor reflection of the Gospel! If you are truly following Jesus, you should be a person of your word. Let your yes be yes, and your no be no.

It's so easy to believe that nobody could possibly understand what each of us is going through. But OH, the relief we feel when others can relate and share their own experiences. In today's message, Pastor Richard tells you about the power of being able to reach out to others with similar struggles. God puts you through trials, not only to strengthen your faith, but also so that YOU can be the one to comfort others in their times of need.

Which would we rather have? Going through trials and tribulations or going through life easy breezy? We're gonna wanna pick joy over suffering every single time. But our faith is more important than our comfort. In today's message, Pastor Richard tells you about finding joy through suffering. Overcoming obstacles may not be easy, but your faith will strengthen, and you will learn to lean on God rather than on yourself.

What will it take for you to make a decision to follow Jesus? Pastor Richard is here to remind you that the Gospel isn't something you should just put on the shelf and say, “I'll get to it later”. Instead, you should make the decision today to follow Jesus! Nothing in this life is guaranteed, and you may have fewer opportunities to say “Yes” to the Lord than you think you do! Don't play games when it comes to your eternal soul.

Living up to the law of Moses without making a single mistake is like a basketball player scoring on every single shot they take… over the course of their entire life. But the truth is that you won't make every single shot you attempt! The Bible teaches that even a single slip-up makes you unworthy of God's presence. But Pastor Richard wants you to remember today that when you are in Christ, His righteousness and perfection is passed down to you.

We never know when we will run into a situation where we can share the Gospel with someone! But in order for us to recognize those situations, we have to open our hearts to what the Holy Spirit is speaking to us. In today's message, Pastor Richard encourages us to push through the awkwardness of sharing the Good News with a stranger. Someone shared the Good News with us, so we should be willing to share it with others.

No one comes to Jesus without having someone guide them along the way. Even the apostle Paul, who encountered Jesus on his way to Damascus, still needed help from a fellow believer in order to become fully adopted into God's family. Pastor Richard reminds you today that you may be someone's best chance at encountering the Good News of Jesus' death and resurrection. Is your life a good reflection of the love of Christ within you?

You may go through your entire life without facing very much persecution for your faith. For some people, the most persecution they will face may just be a rude stare from a nearby table when they pray over their dinner at a restaurant. But no matter the nature of the persecution, Pastor Richard wants you to count it as a blessing, because Jesus teaches that those who suffer for the sake of righteousness will be blessed.

When you're new to Christ, not everyone in your life will celebrate the change. In those moments, it's natural to look for new people to walk alongside you, as you grow in your faith. But sometimes you might choose companions simply because they're available, not because they'll hold you accountable to God's Word. That's why today, Pastor Richard urges you to pray for godly friendships and trust that God will bring the right people into your life.

When you go to a busy emergency room, the doctors may not necessarily see you in the order you arrive. If someone comes in with a serious injury, they just might get moved to the front of the line. Pastor Richard wants you to understand today that Jesus came to this world to serve those who are poor in spirit. Until you realize that you are a sinner in need of a savior, you will stay at the back of the line, and you won't encounter Jesus!

The only thing that can hold Jesus back from working in your heart and transforming your life is you. It's your decision - whether to trust in Him for salvation and follow in the light of His Word. As Pastor Richard will encourage you in today's message, the Kingdom of God is near to your heart when you are aware of your own weakness and need for a Savior. He is coming again, and those who have believed will be called up to be with Him.

All of us long for justice. Some have a stronger draw for the world to be right than others, as sin dulls this God-given desire, but even in the cruelest heart, you often can find some remnant of this longing. As Pastor Richard will point out in today's message, we find hope for this justice in Jesus. But we have to be patient. While we can be instruments of His peace and justice in this world, it will not be perfected till He makes all things new.

The marriage relationship is the most important human relationship most of us will ever have. You become one with that person. You're connected spiritually, emotionally, and physically in a way that neither death nor divorce can fully separate. This connection is wonderful, but as Pastor Richard will warn in today's message, if you marry someone who doesn't share your faith, it creates a major challenge to your spiritual compatibility.

God's Word should always be at the center of what we do as the Church. If the focus is on a particular pastor's interpretation, a certain worship leader's talent, a specific stance on an issue, or a denominational creed, we're missing the point. As Pastor Richard will point out in today's message, this is a pastor's primary job – not to be engaging, charismatic, or magnetic, but to present the Word of God clearly, with integrity.

When you're new to Christ, not everyone in your life will celebrate the change. In those moments, it's natural to look for new people to walk alongside you, as you grow in your faith. As we move through this world, there are times when we place our spiritual lives on the back burner. When that happens, our vision grows cloudy, and we begin to desire the wrong things instead of deepening our relationship with Jesus. That's why today, Pastor Richard encourages you to make Jesus Christ your number one priority in life. When Christ is first, everything else falls into its proper place. So, make Jesus the center of your life today.

God loves you, and there's nothing you need to do to earn, keep, maintain, or justify that love. You don't have to follow any rules or regulations or perform any rituals. As Pastor Richard will clarify in today's message, the only way to be saved is through Jesus. When you trust in Him, believing that He's your Savior and Lord, you are saved. That's all there is to it. It will change your life, but only in response to the salvation you're given.

The verse that Pastor Richard is referencing today, where Jesus says that those who love Him must “hate” their families, has been a source of confusion and abuse at times, by those who misunderstand the heart of what Jesus was saying. Elsewhere in Scripture, it's clear that hating anyone is the same as murdering them. We are to love others as Christ has loved us – but Jesus is our first love, and following Him should be our top priority.

Have you come to that place? As Pastor Richard continues our study in the Minor Prophets today, we'll once again have our attention drawn toward Jesus. Hundreds of years before He would walk the earth in the flesh, these words of prophecy foretold the conditions of His arrival, as well as His second coming. When you submit your heart to Him in repentance and faith, you can find hope for what's to come in this broken world.

At this moment, and frequently throughout its history, we've seen turmoil, violence, and war plague Israel and its surrounding region. Whenever things escalate over there, it can feel a little like approaching the top of a roller coaster. Many of us ask, “Is this it? Are we on the verge of Armageddon?” It can feel frightening, but as Pastor Richard will remind us in today's message, we can have confidence knowing that Jesus wins.

There's a story about the legendary basketball player Michael Jordan. It's said that he was cut from the high school basketball team, so out of anger and determination, he practiced jump shots and free throws until his arms were numb. Jordan would eventually go on to become one of the most well-known players in the NBA. Today, Pastor Richard teaches that when you remain faithful in the small things, God will use you for great things.

There are moments in all of our lives when we make plans, only to watch them fall apart. What those moments reveal is a simple truth: there are many things in this world we cannot control. But there is One who sees the whole path ahead. Jesus calls us to follow Him down that road, one that leads to everlasting life. Today, Pastor Richard invites you to trust Christ with your life. When you place your life in Jesus' hands, He faithfully leads you down the right path.

There's a common trend in many open-world video games. As you play, you can veer off the main path to complete some side quests, and you might find some equipment in the process if you're lucky. But one thing's certain… as you approach a boss battle on the main quest, the developers will make sure you are well stocked. In today's message, Pastor Richard teaches that when God calls you to complete a task, He will always equip you.

Have you ever seen those court videos where a family chooses to forgive someone who's hurt them? I tend to ask the question, how can you do that when clearly, you've been wronged, but I think there's a beauty in their forgiveness because it shows us how God forgave us. Today, Pastor Richard says God forgives you because of Jesus, and you can't forget that! The enemy will try to lie and accuse you of wrong, but God sees you as His child.

Basketball has two different sides, offense and defense. While the offensive player tries to put the ball in the hoop, the defender tries to stop him by guarding him. In today's message, Pastor Richard says the enemy is always standing in your way, trying to oppose you from following Jesus. But Satan isn't just opposing you; he's accusing you of all your wrongs. He wants you to forget the redemption that Christ has given you through His blood!

When people gather for a concert, they all go for the same goal. To see the person performing! Today, Pastor Richard says we must gather as a church for the same goal. Not just because it's fun and enjoyable, but to remind ourselves of Christ's death and resurrection. He loves you and wants you to be reminded of that every day! You must fix your eyes on Him and let Him work in your life. One of the easiest ways to do that is through community.

Have you ever pulled one of those resistance bands? You know, those things that are like big rubber bands? To use them correctly, you have to keep pulling even when it feels difficult. In today's message, Pastor Richard says that when you choose to follow Jesus, there will always be resistance, but you must remain strong. When people are pushing back on your faith, remind yourself that God's worth it. Persevere with Christ today.

There comes a time in all our lives when we must make a decision: will we try to keep going on our own, or will we reach out to someone who can do what we can't? That's what it comes down to; we can't spiritually save ourselves. But God loved us so much that He sent His Son to take our place on the cross. He gave us what we couldn't earn. So today, Pastor Richard invites you to let Jesus into your life and allow Him to give you His grace.

Everyone chooses to worship something. It can be anything from money to even the acceptance of others! Today, Pastor Richard says your worship life matters. You must worship Jesus because He's worthy of all praise. He loves you and wants a relationship with you, even when you choose other things! God doesn't change His mind because you don't want Him. In fact, he runs harder towards you, like a father who's lost his child.

It can be easy to blame other people, especially if we don't think we did anything wrong. But how often have you blamed God for your life going awry? In today's message, Pastor Richard says God is never in the wrong. God is perfect and holy! If you're in a tough situation, there's a reason for it, and it may not be what you think. God does everything with a purpose! Even when you don't know what it is, you have to trust in His plans for you!

Everyone has a ranking of the things in their lives. You can rank your family above other things, or your career, or even how much money you have in the bank. Today, Pastor Richard says you must put God above all in your life. If you aren't following Him wholly, you're doing God a disservice. He deserves all your praise, and your life must be centered around Him. When you trust Him, you allow Him to lead your life where it's best for you!

If you put food coloring in water, it becomes impossible to get that color out of the water! You have to fully dump out the cup and pour new water in for it to be clear again! In today's message, Pastor Richard says everyone is worthy of God's judgment, but He shows us mercy in sending His Son for you. You'd be nothing without the mercy of the Lord. You're stained with sin, but God loves you, so He sent His Son as a sacrifice for your sins!

Have you ever been confused about the verdict a judge has given to someone? The thing is, Earthly judges may mess up, but God is perfect and has a plan for everything. In today's message, Pastor Richard says you must remind yourself that God is perfect and is the final judge. When you start to see injustice in the world, remember, there's a God who will make all that's wrong right and bring justice to all that's unjust!

Sometimes, we can feel like we're all alone. That feeling of not knowing who we could even go to when we feel lost is so relatable. Pastor Richard reminds us that we DO have someone to run to! We have Jesus! He will always be there for us, through His promises, Word, and faithfulness. Pastor Richard is telling YOU that there's still hope even when you don't think there is. Let this message today be a wonderful reminder of God's love for you.

When we read the Bible, it's easy to focus only on the comforting and encouraging passages, while overlooking the ways God lovingly confronts His people when they drift from Him. In the Bible, God repeatedly calls His people to repentance and restoration. And when we look at our nation today, we see our country straying from that path. That's why today, Pastor Richard calls for revival. We must learn from the Word and humble ourselves before God.

Parents, we know that at times our children will act out. And when correction is needed, we step in, because we love them. In the same way, God lovingly corrects His children. When we begin to stray from the path He's leading us on, He gently works to draw us back to Himself. So today, Pastor Richard encourages you to place your faith in God, even when you've wandered, trusting that His correction is rooted in love and meant to lead you back to Him.

We live in a world where it's easy to take things for granted: our security, our jobs, our homes, even our freedoms. Yet the reality is that nothing in this life is guaranteed. Scripture reminds us how brief life truly is. So how should we live? Not in fear, or as if every day is our last, but anchored in the promises of God. In today's message, Pastor Richard reminds us that while everything in this world may fade, the Word of God stands forever.

As we navigate this world, it's easy to forget that God truly desires our good. When a door closes, we may respond with frustration and ask, “Why, Lord?” Yet we often cannot see what He may be protecting us from. That's why in today's message, Pastor Richard reminds us to thank God for His guidance and loving discipline. We can trust that even when we think we know better, His wisdom always proves greater than our own.

As parents, we know that children learn right from wrong through loving correction. In the same way, our heavenly Father corrects His children to teach us what is good and right. That's why God gave us His Word: to teach us, guide us, and impart wisdom that can spare us from unnecessary pain. Today, Pastor Richard encourages us to learn from Scripture and recognize what God, in His love, is seeking to protect us from.

Who is your greatest role model? Very often, the person you look up to tends to be the type of person you are. As Pastor Richard shares in his message today, Jesus is his greatest role model. Jesus is kind, compassionate, caring, humble, and loving! What a great person to look up to as a role model. You should always strive to be the type of person Jesus is; He is the greatest example to everyone. Do you mirror your life to Jesus?

As the world seems to grow darker, we who follow Christ are not without light. The Word of God reveals what we need to know, so that we are not lost in this world. That's why, in today's message, Pastor Richard reminds us that as we hold on to Scripture, we can stand firm in faith, trusting in what God has already spoken. We already have the victory, and when we place our faith in Jesus, we can rest assured that what God has spoken is final.

We live in a world that constantly craves the next big thing, and in our lives, we are always pursuing more: more money, more land, more material possessions. But, in our journey with God, we can sometimes forget that He is the sole reason we have what we do. The family we cherish, our jobs, the security we enjoy, and the food on our tables… all of these are blessings from God. So today, Pastor Richard encourages us to thank God in humility.

Isn't it amazing to know that we have a King who truly loves us? God loves us so much that He sent His One and only Son to pay our price for sin on the cross, all because of how much we matter to Him. There will be times of pain in our lives, as well as struggles and storms, but we know that we aren't alone. Today, Pastor Richard reminds us that the God of the universe is always with us and ready to guide us through our lives.

In our relationship with God, many of us long for a deeper connection. While some may only experience a surface-level faith, those who aspire to be true disciples of Christ yearn to know Him intimately and walk closely with Him. That's why in today's message, Pastor Richard encourages you to deepen your relationship with Jesus by inviting Him to accompany you in every step of your life and trusting Him to guide your path.

Are you a procrastinator, or do you know someone who is? Maybe you were one of those up-all-night-writing-a-paper type students. Or maybe your best friend is perpetually late anytime you get together. Waiting until the last minute may be something you're known for, and may even give others a chuckle, but it can't be the way you view your eternity. Today, Pastor Richard implores you to choose Jesus Christ. No one is promised tomorrow!
