In this episode we have listeners questions for me to answer and an amazing interview with William Shaw about his latest book “Grave’s End”. We also review “Home Stretch” by Graham Norton, “Atomic Love” by Jeannie Fields, “Take Me Home” by Alex Hart and “How To Survive The End Of The World” by Aaron Gillies.
Trigger warning: this episode contains reference to suicide.Aaron Gillies is an author and writer who joins me to talk about the reality of living with anxiety; how to recognise it, how to manage it, how to not be afraid of it and how to overcome it. His perspective and insights on anxiety in his book How to Survive the End of the World (When it's in Your Own Head): An Anxiety Survival Guide is one of the best accounts I've read on anxiety and I highly recommend it to anyone with anxiety or anyone keen to understand anxiety in others. To join the closed Facebook group for the podcast click here >> The Emma Guns Show Forum. To follow me on social media >> Twitter | Instagram. When things go wrong, we don't often find it in us to laugh. Christina Patterson, author of The Art Of Not Falling Apart, joins Aaron Gillies (a.k.a Twitter's @technicallyron), comedian and author of How To Survive The End Of The World When It’s In Your Own Head talk about how to embrace life as an adventure, as well as giving some practical tips for surviving and thriving when life seems to be falling apart. Falko hat unterdessen Sachbuch-Themenabend über geistige Gesundheit ("How to survive the end of the world" von Aaron Gillies und sinnloses Rumrennen in Wäldern ("Warum wir laufen" von Ronald Reng). Viel Spaß mit der neuen Folge! You may know Aaron by his alter ego Technically Ron. Aaron is one of the most hilarious, original and quick-witted voices on social media, with practically every tweet going viral and getting the attention of the media. His list of reasons his wife cries received nearly 50,000 RTs and was covered relentlessly in the press, so it’s no surprise Aaron landed himself a book deal – launching Lifeabet, An A-Z of Modern Existence, in 2015. Although Aaron offers lighthearted escapism and hilarious observations, there’s also a more serious side to him thanks to his well-documented struggles with mental health. Now a champion for discussing men’s wellbeing, he’s spoken about mental health for the Huffington Post, The Telegraph, The Metro and Sky News. All of this incredible work is culminating in another book that’s due to launch in 2018. We talk about how to crack a joke in 140 characters, our obsession with literal humour, how connecting online changed his life, landing a book deal and being a champion for mental health awareness. Aaron Gillies uses social media to mock issues surrounding his own mental health. Is it ok to laugh at depression?
