「Country Road, Take Me Home」這首鄉村民謠歌曲,你聽過嗎? 2024 was a hall of fame year for Vince Stilger. He was inducted into not just one state Athletic Training Association Hall of Fame but two state Athletic Training Associations Hall of Fame, West Virginia and Indiana. Well deserved honors for this Lanesville, IN native with a 43 year career in the profession. What he has packed into those 43 years is hall of fame worthy at any level. Starting at Lanesville HS as a student athletic trainer and attending a athletic training workshop at Floyd Central HS, hosted by Glen Snow with a hall of fame faculty, he was well on his way for an athletic training career that would be remarkable. After a short stent at IU southeast he attended Indiana State University for both his undergraduate and masters degree. His first stop was at Saint Joseph's College in Rensselaer, IN as the head athletic trainer for four years. Then back to Indiana State as the head athletic trainer. In 1988 he became the program director for the athletic training undergraduate education program as well. In 1985, Phil Collins could do no wrong. His album No Jacket Required would eventually hit the top spot in the US and the UK. He'd also have the top album and top song on both sides of the Atlantic. He won a Grammy for Against All Odds (which would hit #1), his duet with Philip Bailey, Easy Lover, was a smash hit around the world and hit duet with Marilyn Martin, Separate Lives, would also go to #1. And after a world tour to support his 25 million selling album No Jacket Required, he played Live Aid in London with Sting and then jumped the Concorde to make it to the US and played RFK with Eric Clapton and a reunited Led Zeppelin. Plus he was on Miami Vice. The man was unstoppable. As No Jacket Required turns 40, we decided to analyze it track by track. Though Collins proved he could navigate the mid-80s recording styles without getting too cheesy on tracks like Sussudio and Inside Out, there are others that aren't great given the strength of the hits like Only You and I Know and I Don't Wanna Know. The album would sell over 12 million in the US alone thanks to hits like Sussudio and the video for Take Me Home not only gave him clout as a bonafide international star but also kept the album selling well into 1986. Phil has received a lot of backlash in latter days due to the fact that he was everywhere in the 80s - chart topping with every Genesis album, every solo record, every duet or movie soundtrack song, every tour, every TV appearance, every music video. Does he deserve the criticism he gets or did he just make the most of his opportunities he was given? We debate that and more on this surely to be divisive episode. Then on April 21, the regular season opens statewide and gives hunters five weeks to test their skills and enjoy the thrill of the hunt.  As you count down the days to this exciting season, make sure you understand the latest regulations and inspect your gear to make sure everything is working properly. The West Virginia Division of Natural Resources offers a few tips to help you get ready for a successful spring gobbler season. Read more: https://wvdnr.gov/wv-spring-gobbler-season-guide-2025/   #2 – From METRO NEWS – “Take Me Home, Country Roads” are the lyrics now getting the attention from hundreds of millions of viewers who happened to be watching the commercials in the first half of Sunday night's Super Bowl. A Rocket Mortgage advertisement featuring West Virginia's famous, unofficial song, “Country Roads,” may have not been specifically designed to promote the state during Super Bowl 59, but officials are saying that it definitely helped shed a positive light on it amid the state's growing tourism industry and its goal for more population growth. Tourism Secretary Chelsea Ruby said it was the best free advertising they could ask for. When the broadcast returned to the game with the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, over 65,000 fans had broken out into a live rendition of the song. “It was absolutely incredible, no matter which team you were cheering for, I think all of us can agree that West Virginia was the big winner of the night,” Ruby said. The BUILD WV Act aims to assist West Virginia's growing communities in attracting much-needed housing development projects. The credit offers a State Sales and Use Tax exemption for building materials and a 10-year property value adjustment refundable tax credit to offset building costs.  If you are interested in learning more or discovering if your project may be eligible, contact the West Virginia Department of Economic Development. Then they track her string of failures through the early eighties before her massively successful pivot to acting, including her Best Actress Oscar win for 1987's Moonstruck. Next they dig into her best-selling album to date, 1989's Heart of Stone, her infomercial era in the nineties and Sonny Bono's tragic death in 1998 which paved the way for yet another comeback with 1998's Believe. From the Max Fleischer cartoons, the early serials, the 1950's series, and back to movie screens and a succession of TV shows, no other hero has left the footprint in pop culture that the Man of Steel has. An orphaned refugee who gives back to the world that took him in, Superman is intrinsically tied to the American mythos. It seems that every generation has a Superman, and this summer James Gunn will bring the newest incarnation to the big screen. The first trailer for Superman (2025) is out and the Regular Joes break down the brief glimpse into familiar characters, and many never before seen on screen. While the stakes remain high, the dark and broody tone of recent years seems to be behind us. The only question that remains is, are you ready to believe in Superman … again. And, as they close out the year, the Joes squeeze in one last batch of Random Topics, and one more round of What's in the Box. Thanks for listening!

In today's episode, we embark on a profound journey into the spiritual teachings of David Hoffmeister, a modern-day mystic devoted to living the principles of "A Course in Miracles" (ACIM). With a deep resonance of joy and an ever-present radiance of inner peace, David offers wisdom that bridges ancient teachings and contemporary challenges. His essence embodies the transformative power of forgiveness, trust, and divine guidance. We begin with David's reflection on healing as a “state of perfect love and connectedness.” In his words, “What we're trying to do is let go of all the interference patterns.” This simple yet profound teaching reminds us of the essential work: releasing the past, surrendering egoic attachments, and aligning with Spirit's guidance. It is not about changing the external world but shifting our perception from fear to love.A significant part of our discussion delves into the metaphysical depth of ACIM, which David describes as a mind-training program designed to align us with unconditional love. The practice of forgiveness, as he explains, is not about pardoning someone for what they did but recognizing that “they did not do it” in the ultimate spiritual sense. This shift moves us from a place of judgment to a realm of divine understanding—a core tenet of the Course that liberates us from the chains of the past.We also explore the idea of vulnerability as a pathway to healing. Vulnerability, David shares, is about shedding the protective layers of ego, much like peeling an onion, to reveal the authentic self. This process can be both terrifying and liberating. In the documentary "Take Me Home," which David co-produced, participants courageously practiced radical transparency, confronting their deepest fears and shadows. The result? A transformative experience of inner peace and spiritual awakening.Central to David's teachings is the recognition of our perceptual errors—the illusions we hold about ourselves and the world. He likens these illusions to Plato's allegory of the cave, where shadows on the wall are mistaken for reality. “We need to step into the light,” he says, urging us to release our attachments to the physical and embrace the spiritual. This perspective not only alleviates personal suffering but also fosters a collective awakening. One of the more striking moments in our conversation was David's insight into fear and love. “Your real fear is a fear of love,” he explains. At first, this might seem counterintuitive, but as he elaborates, it becomes clear that our fear stems from the unknown—the vast, infinite love of God that challenges our limited, egoic sense of self. The spiritual journey, then, becomes a process of unlearning fear and embracing the divine.SPIRITUAL TAKEAWAYSForgiveness as Liberation: True forgiveness involves recognizing that no harm was ever done in the ultimate reality. This shifts our perception from grievance to gratitude.Vulnerability as Strength: By shedding our protective layers, we create space for healing and authentic connection with Spirit.Guidance Over Ego: Trusting inner guidance leads us to a life of peace, joy, and divine purpose, free from the confines of egoic identity.David reminds us of the power of trust and surrender. He calls us to live an inspired life, where joy and discovery become our natural states. Through his teachings and the profound insights of "Take Me Home," we are invited to step beyond fear, embrace love, and remember our true essence. Please enjoy my conversation with David Hoffmeister.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/next-level-soul-podcast-with-alex-ferrari--4858435/support.

This is an incredible tape of Led Zeppelin rehearsing at Headley Grange in preparation of their upcoming Physical Graffiti double album. From November 1973 through May 1974 the band convened at Headley Grange, the site of many a legendary recording session (Zep IV, Houses, etc) to work on their new album. The sessions were fruitful and the band was totally dialed in and focused. I play two incredible songs which haven't appeared on any album, but are incredibly badass. Along with the two almost jams, I play an early (and in my opinion superior) iteration of what would become In The Light, called Take Me Home. All of these songs are performed live in the rehearsal space of Headley Grange, with no overdubs or studio magic, and it is unreal.

Born in New York City and raised in the Caribbean as Richard Gerstein - Richard T. Bear boasts a career that spans more than 40 years, one that led to a string of acclaimed solo albums and collaborations with a number of influential icons, including Al Kooper, Stephen Stills, former Rascals Gene Cornish and Dino Danelli, Kiss, Pat Benatar and many more. He has shared stages with artists such as Dave Mason, Mick Fleetwood, the Doobie Brothers, Richie Havens and Odetta. T. Bear penned "Love and Pain," a track found on Take Me Home, one of Cher's most successful albums and also tallied several hits on his own, including the single "Sunshine Hotel" from his debut album Red, Hot and Blue. He has appeared on a number of recordings including CSN's Southern Cross, Billy Squier's Tale of the Tape and The Blues Brothers Soundtrack album. After taking some time to focus on his own sobriety, T. Bear became an early activist helping others with addiction. His self-imposed hiatus lasted nearly three decades, and now T Bear is back with two striking new releases, Fresh Bear Tracks and The Way of the World, his first studio albums in 25+ years. Richard is a distinctive singer and talented keyboard player. His latest albums feature a host of special guests. From Stephen Stills, Robby Krieger, Edgar Winter, Walter Trout, to former Paul McCartney & Wings members Laurence Juber and Denny Seiwell and The Heartbreakers' Benmont Tench. His latest album, The Way of The World, was written and recorded as the world emerged from the pandemic. It boasts a stunning set of 13 original songs. Musically, it's a stirring melodic mix of blues, rock n roll, Americana, and roots. T. Bear's first album spawned the single “Sunshine Hotel.” A remix of the song climbed to #4 on the world dance charts before becoming the dance staple that it remains today. Richard has appeared on numerous recordings by iconic artists including Crosby, Stills and Nash's Southern Cross, The Blues Brothers Soundtrack, Richie Havens Mixed Bag II, Kiss members Gene Simmons and Peter Criss' solo ventures, as well as Toby Beau's hit single My Angel Baby. As a soloist T Bear found his initial inspiration in the sounds of the British Invasion. At age 13 he was writing his own songs.  An early break came when he was working at Manny's Music in New York City when Hot Tuna's Jorma Kaukonen and Jack Casady stopped in and hear him improvising on piano. They were impressed enough to ask him to sit in with them during a Hot Tuna show at the famed Fillmore East. He worked for a time as Carly Simon's road manager and opened shows for the likes of Jeff Beck and Richie Havens before moving to Los Angeles.  In 1983, he took a lengthy hiatus from making music to get his personal life in order before returning to action in 2017. Fast forward to the present and T Bear is so excited about the new album.  As he puts it, “Making The Way of the World was like getting a new pair of glasses. I see everything more clearly and in focus around me. These are songs that made me think and dream. It's an oasis for the mind.” Meet Richard T Bear this week as he unravels his incredible story of survival and comeback against all odds. I hope you really enjoy this episode.

We have examined several encounters with strange entities, which took place in remote North American communities. In many of these cases, the bizarre nature of the incident has gone on to immortalise not only the being itself but also the location in which it was seen. In this episode, we explore two such encounters, which took place in West Virginia. This mountainous region was the backdrop for the infamous Mothman sighting during the 1960s, which we have already covered. This week, we take a look at both the Flatwoods Monster and the Grafton Monster. What the Riff?!?
1971 - August: The Who “Who's Next”

What the Riff?!?

Pete Townshend intended the fifth studio album from The Who to be a science fiction rock opera called “Lifehouse,” as a follow up to the rock opera “Tommy” released in 1969.  After conflicts with their band manager and issues just managing the complexity of what Townshend envisioned the project to be, the rock opera was shelved, and the follow-up was made into a more traditional album entitled Who's Next. The group began recording the album at Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger's house, using the Stones' mobile recording studio, then moved to a more traditional studio in London.  Most of the album is made up of songs originally intended for the Lifehouse project.  Who's Next would see the Who make significant use of synthesizers and other keyboard sounds on this album, making the synthesizers a more integrated part of the songs than on previous albums.  Drummer Keith Moon's style was also more formalized than before, and the overall album was focused on a good sound where previous albums were perhaps tilted toward a sonic projection of the image of the band.Who's Next would contain some of the most iconic songs that the band produced, and retrospectively is considered by many to be the best album The Who ever produced.  The album would reach number 1 on the UK charts, and number 4 on the US charts.Rob brings us this iconic album for today's podcast, and friend of the show Mike Fernandes sits in for Bruce this week.MobileThis lighter song is a celebration of life on the open road.  Roger Daltrey steps aside as Pete Townshend takes over lead vocal duties.  Daltrey actually was not present at the recording of this song, leaving Keith Moon (drums), John Entwistle (bass), and Townshend (vocals, guitar, keyboards) to record it as a power trio.A BargainOften misconstrued as a love song to a woman, this track actually is about a relationship with God.  It contends that sacrificing everything for a relationship with God is not a sacrifice at all, but a bargain.  Much of Pete Townshend's work is inspired by eastern mysticism.Won't Get Fooled AgainThe last track on the album is an 8 1/2-minute epic.  It was originally intended as a closing number to the "Lifehouse" rock opera.  The lyrics offer a critique of both government and revolutionary change, summarized in the phrase "Meet the new boss, same as the old boss."  Townshend was inspired to write this song after chasing Abbie Hoffman off the stage at Woodstock.Baba O'Riley The title of the lead track to the album is a combination of two of Townshend's mentors, Indian spiritualist Meher Baba and American Composer Terry Riley.  The repeated phrase "teenage wasteland" was inspired by Townshend's observations of youths at Woodstock strung out on acid. ENTERTAINMENT TRACK:The Beat Goes On by Sonny & Cher (from the television variety show “Sonny and Cher Comedy Hour”)The singing duo Sonny and Cher started this sketch comedy and music show in 1971.  It would run for 3 years until their divorce. STAFF PICKS:Sweet City Woman by The StampedersWayne brings us a banjo-laden hit from a Canadian trio.  The lyrics were inspired by an encounter with a girl with wild eyes who came from the prairie to start life in the big city.  It hit number 8 on the US charts and number 1 in Canada.  It also won a number of Juno awards in 1972.  You may remember it from an episode of "Better Call Saul."Take Me Home, Country Roads by John DenverLynch keeps the banjo hits coming with a signature song from John Denver.  It went to number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100, and would become one of four official state songs for West Virginia.  Denver recorded this song in only two hours.Nobody by the Doobie Brothers Mike brings us a lost song from the first album by the Doobie Brothers.  Neither this song nor the album charted when it was released, but it displays a number of riffs and styles which would become staples of Doobie Brothers songs.  It was re-released in 1974 after the group had achieved success, and it reached number 58 on the Billboard Hot 100.Maggie May by Rod Stewart Rob closes out the staff picks with a hit single off Stewart's third solo album "Every Picture Tells a Story."  The lyrics describe the contradictory feelings of a boy in a relationship with an older woman.  The inspiration was a true encounter Stewart had with a woman at the 1961 Beaulieu Jazz Festival.  The song went to number 1 in Australia, the US, the UK, and Canada. INSTRUMENTAL TRACK:Orchid by Black SabbathWe close out with a surprisingly soft instrumental from an ordinarily more heavy hitting band.
