Send us a textLegendary comedian, actor, and writer George Wallace is making his highly anticipated return to St. Louis this weekend for a two-night run at Helium Comedy Club, July 11–12, 2025, with shows at 7:00 PM and 9:15 PM on Friday, and 7:00 PM and 9:30 PM on Saturday. With ticket prices ranging from $41 for general admission to $61 for front row seating, fans are guaranteed an unforgettable night of comedy from one of the most iconic voices in stand-up. George Wallace whose lightning-fast wit, observational brilliance, and unforgettable storytelling have made him one of comedy's most respected figures. Known affectionately as “The New Mr. Vegas,” Wallace enjoyed more than a decade of success headlining his own show in Las Vegas—an unprecedented run that solidified his status as one of the greats in stand-up entertainment.Unlike any other show on the strip, Wallace's performances were interactive, heartfelt, and wildly generous—audiences could walk away with everything from diamond necklaces to tropical cruises, gourmet dinners, and even a new car. His spontaneous audience interactions and “anything can happen” attitude became his signature. Now, Wallace is stepping into a new chapter with Prime Video's upcoming comedy series Clean Slate, where he stars alongside Laverne Cox. The half-hour show—produced by Sony Pictures Television and developed by the late, great Norman Lear—was greenlit on Lear's 100th birthday and stands as a historic final project from the legendary TV pioneer. In Clean Slate, Wallace plays Henry Slate, a traditional, outspoken Alabama car wash owner whose world is turned upside down when his long-estranged child returns home—not as the son he remembers, but as Desiree Slate (Cox), a proud and resilient trans woman. The series explores themes of family, growth, and acceptance, all with Wallace's signature blend of humor and heart.Don't miss your chance to see a true comedy legend LIVE in St. Louis at Helium Comedy Club on July 11–12, 2025. No two shows are ever the same, and with Wallace, one thing is certain—you'll be laughing long after the curtain closes.http://www.betterhelp.com/TheBarnThis episode is sponsored by www.betterhelp.com/TheBarn and brought to you as always by The Barn Media Group. Carol Leifer entered comedy when a woman stand-up was considered a novelty or a niche, but even then she knew "things would eventually change." And change has come, due in no small part to Carol's own stelar show biz contributions. Carol joins us this week to talk about her formative years, her early standup, giving voice to iconic characters like Elaine Benes and Deborah Vance, and her new book, How to Write a Funny Speech!Carol's relationship with her father, an optometrist with an ear for comedy and a quick wit that delighted both patients and family, laid the foundation for her career trajectory. Her supportive parents encouraged her to pursue stand-up when the opportunity struck, and very soon, she was right at home at The Improv and on The Tonight Show.Even within the male-dominated comedy space, Carol found herself buoyed by peers and colleagues, in the clubs and on the sets of seminal sitcoms such as Seinfeld, The Larry Sanders Show and Curb Your Enthusiasm.Carol's Seinfeld contributions tapped into women's lived experiences and brought us the skinny mirror, the marble rye and the nail salon, but she reveals which of Elaine's iconic storylines was not her brainchild - 'sponge-worthy' was actually coined by male writer, Peter Mehlman!Enjoy an exciting spin on your favorite podcast showbiz trivia game as we invite Carol to play IMDB Roulette: Writer's Edition, where she dives into the intricacies of writing for: Seinfeld, Curb, Hacks, SNL and Ellen, plus traveling the globe with Henry Winkler, George Foreman, Terry Bradshaw and William Shatner! (She now calls him Bill.)Carol also shares her SNL writing regrets. (If she could only have gotten in better with Lorne.) We talk about her latest runaway hit book How To Write a Funny Speech and close the show with Fritz's favorite new Carol Leifer joke!In recommendations -- Weezy: The HBO original, My Mom Jayne: A Film By Mariska HargitayFritz: Netflix documentary, Trainwreck: The Cult Of American ApparelCarol LeiferHow To Write A Funny Speech: for a Wedding, Bar Mitzvah, Graduation & Every Other Event You Didn't Want to Go to in the First Place by Carol Leifer and Rick MitchellCarol Leifer on WikiCarol Leifer on InstagramCarol Leifer on FacebookCarol Leifer Amazon Author PageMy Mom Jayne from Mariska HargitayTrainwreck: The Cult Of American ApparelMedia Path PodcastMedia Path on Buy Me a Coffee

Gene and cohost Tim Swartz feature a visit from Paul Seaburn, author of "What Would You Say to a Naked Alien?" The book is a collection of his favorite reports of encounters with quirky extraterrestrials that turned out to be more fun than fearsome, and his thoughts about what he — and you — might do in the same situations. Paul's long, strange trip to paranormal news writing began with a career in tech support, management and sales for two successful computer industry startups. A lifelong love of comedy led him to try standup, but his talent for writing resulted instead in a second career penning jokes for the Tonight Show with Jay Leno, other TV shows, many top comedians, an Emmy-winning children's show, a jazz/comedy show on public radio and as a contributor to over 30 collections of humor, trivia and puzzles. Paul brought his writing and humor skills to the paranormal and strange news world at Mysterious Universe, where he could finally scratch the itch he's had since his youth to become a cross between Robert Ripley and Johnny Carson. With this background, just how will he react to Gene's penchant for terrible disk jockey puns?
