Die beginnen und bleiben für den überwiegenden Teil der epochalen 140 Minuten von Airport (1970) auf dem Boden der Tatschen, denn das vollbesetzte Passagierflugzeug mit einem verzweifelten Bombenbauer (Van Heflin) hebt aufgrund heftigen Schneefalls und menschlicher Tragödien erst eine Stunde vor Schluss ab. Bis dahin haben die altgedienten Hollywoodrecken Burt Lancaster und Dean Martin ausreichend Zeit, ihre Ehen zu ruinieren und Affären mit den sexy Euro-Sternchen Jean Seberg und Jacqueline Bisset zu pflegen. Mein geschätzter Gast Franz Köhne kann der Hochglanz-Seifenoper dabei etwas mehr abgewinnen als ich, der viel zu lange Zeit dem actionreichen Finale dieses Mega-Blockbusters entgegenfiebern muss. Zum Glück kommt das sehr günstige, sehr chaotische und teils sehr alberne Sequel Airport 1975 – Giganten am Himmel (1974) viel schneller zur Sache, auch wenn die Qualität etwas auf der Strecke bzw. der Landebahn bleibt. Aber hey, es gibt eine singende Nonne!

Alles Nix für sie? Obacht: Wer bis dahin nix hat muss mit Lundt zu Magenta, und wer denkt dass man sich da so einfach aus der Affäre stehlen kann, weiss wohl nicht das sich selbst ein Lionel Messi nach nem Spiel bei Kerner persönlich abmelden muss, weil er sonst nicht ins Hotel darf. Als Schostakowitsch 1934 seine Cellosonate schrieb, war er ein erfolgreicher Jung-Komponist, verheiratet – und durch eine kurze Affäre beflügelt. Doch Diktator Stalin droht schon damals den Künstlern. Beides hört man in dieser Sonate, die von vielen Cello-Stars eingespielt wurde. Und weil diese Sonate des damals 28-jährigen Dmitri Schostakowitsch bei Solistinnen und Publikum gleichermassen beliebt ist, stellen wir sie in dieser Sendung vor. John is a long-time faithful soulwinner and servant of Christ, but it was not always this way. He and his five siblings grew up without a gospel witness in the home or any external gospel witness to speak of. A small gospel seed was planted in his heart as a teenager when a group of Christians were witnessing at a mall, but John did not receive Christ as his savior until he was an adult. Having gone along with the cultural tide of a life fueled by the flesh, the Lord opened his eyes to the emptiness of the world and brought him to a saving knowledge of Him. Vergangene Woche wurde beim ORF ein neuer Intendant gewählt: Clemens Pig, langjähriger Geschäftsführer bei der Nachrichtenagentur APA, soll den Sender ab Januar 2027 führen. Die Wahl stand im Schatten eines Skandals, der den ORF seit Monaten beschäftigt. Im März trat der damalige Generaldirektor Roland Weißmann zurück, weil eine Mitarbeiterin ihm Belästigung vorgeworfen hatte. Es ist nicht die einzige Affäre, die den ORF in jüngerer Vergangenheit erschüttert hat. Vor wenigen Wochen wurde ein gut bezahlter Manager im Unternehmen vom Dienst freigestellt, angeblich, weil er während seiner Krankschreibung Honorare als freiberuflicher Berater einkassiert haben soll. In den vergangenen Jahren gab es mehrfach Fälle im Sender rund um sexuelle Belästigung und Machtmissbrauch. Für den ORF kommen solche Skandale zur Unzeit. Wie in vielen Ländern steht der öffentlich-rechtliche Rundfunk auch in Österreich stark unter Druck. Die FPÖ würde ihn am liebsten abschaffen. Wie will der neue Intendant es schaffen, das verlorene Vertrauen vieler Menschen in den Sender wiederherzustellen? In the wake of Charlie Kirk's assassination, the political right in the United States has in many ways splintered (some would even argue it has fractured), and the issue underlying this change seems to be Israel and the U.S.' staunch support of it. The disagreement can even be found in the church today. Where before, Christians of every stripe would be unified on the support of Israel, today we find that a substantial and growing number of Christians no longer view Israel favorably and are opposed the our current stance of steadfast support. What has brought about this change? Is it the war Trump waged on Iran? Perhaps the events in response to the October 7th attacks? Could it be that the Information Age has made it so that many can study the events of the past surrounding Israel for themselves? Or is this a spiritual war whose roots run long and deep? Critics say it is merely a theological fad of the 20th century that we must abandon for the frameworks of early church fathers. Increasingly, dispensationalism has come under intense scrutiny as a conduit to wrong theology, wrong eschatology, and even wrong politics. Are the critics right? What is dispensationalism and is it really just a new-fangled framework popularized in the U.S. by  Moody, Scofield, and Darby? What are the arguments for and against it? Is this a scenario where good Christian folks can just agree to disagree, or is it a salvific issue that demands immediate clarity and dogmatic adherence? The percentage of people in the country with a testimony of genuine salvation is significantly less than the percentage that would claim they are Christians, but this is true of almost every nation that we've explored on this podcast series. Muslims make up about 12% of the population, and the remaining 3% are a mixture of various non-Abrahamic religions. God is at work in the country, however, building His church as He promised.
