On his Australia tour, we recorded an interview with UK-based Mohan Singh, founder of the Sikh Awareness Society, about the increasing risks of online grooming for young people and the need for open conversations around relationships and sex education in Punjabi families. Singh says grooming is often a gradual process of controlling a young person's trust and thinking, with digital platforms now a major entry point. He urges parents to watch for warning signs such as changes in behaviour, secrecy, unexplained gifts, and emotional withdrawal, and to speak honestly with children about safe relationships, boundaries, and how to report concerns. With decades of experience supporting victims, Singh has also appeared in the BBC Inside Out documentary on grooming.

Ahead of Mental Health Awareness Week, Geoff McDonald discusses how he helps leadership and HR create workplaces where everyone can ask for help without stigma. Advocating that current wellbeing efforts focus too much on individuals, Geoff notes that burnout levels aren't decreasing despite efforts, and sets out the case for moving to organisation wide wellbeing through culture change. Mental Health Awareness Week commences on 11th May 2026; this year's theme is Action. Geoff's call to action for you: start with your own mental health. Only when you care about yourself can you lead the workplace culture revolution. Elevating wellbeing to a strategic priority: Geoff McDonald's work Thank you to Geoff McDonald for sponsoring this episode. Geoff is a global advocate, campaigner and consultant passionate about addressing the stigma of mental ill health in workplaces. As former Global VP of Human Resources at Unilever, Geoff brings practical experience helping organisations elevate wellbeing to a strategic priority in the C-suite. In 2014, he left Unilever to devote his expertise to ending the stigma of depression and anxiety in the workplace - because he knows first-hand that talking about mental health saves lives. As a business transformation consultant and co-founder of charity Minds@Work, Geoff helps organisations define purpose beyond growth and profitability, and develop holistic wellbeing strategies that unlock true performance potential. Learn more about Geoff McDonald's work: www.geoffmcdonald.co.uk Are you looking for your next great read that inspires you and helps your work? Our book of the month for April is Start with Why by Simon Sinek – a powerful exploration of what separates truly inspiring leaders from the rest. Simon challenges the conventional focus on what we do or how we do it, and instead argues that great leaders and organisations start with why – their purpose, cause, or belief. Through his Golden Circle framework, he demonstrates how the most inspiring leaders think, act and communicate from the inside out. Drawing on examples from Apple, Martin Luther King Jr, and the Wright Brothers, Sinek shows that people don't buy what you do – they buy why you do it. When organisations are clear about their purpose, they attract employees and customers who share their beliefs, creating cultures of trust and belonging where people feel valued and motivated to contribute their best work. This isn't just about messaging; it's about building sustainable success through authentic, purpose-driven leadership. Whether you're looking to inspire your team, build deeper trust with clients, or create a culture where innovation thrives, Start with Why offers a compelling framework for leading with intention. Next, Kenny and Macca have an extended chat with Georgie Purcell, while live on air, on the phone is Laurie Levy. Laurie Levy is a prominent Australian environmental activist and the founder and Campaign Director of the Coalition Against Duck Shooting, (CADS). For 40 years, as of March 2026, he has led a persistent campaign to end recreational duck hunting in Victoria. Despite his age (83 as of late 2024), Levy remains active in the field. In October 2024, he successfully defended himself in court after being fined for entering wetlands during the hunting season to rescue birds; the Magistrate rescinded the fine, acknowledging his commitment to animal welfare. Levy has consistently pressured the Victorian government, most recently criticising Premier Jacinta Allan for ignoring a parliamentary inquiry’s recommendation to ban the practice. Levy's long-term campaigning has been a major factor in the decline of recreational duck hunting in Victoria. Since he began his work in 1986, the number of active duck shooters in the state has reportedly dropped from approximately 100,000 to around 20,000. The post Easter Saturday, April 4th, 2026, Georgie Purcell, and Laurie Levy Environmental Activist, Anti-Duck Shooting Campaigner appeared first on Saturday Magazine.

Kilrush-based Friends of Ennis Hospital PRO Deirdre Culligan says the newly-allocated resources are welcome but don't get to the heart of the issue.

CAMPAIGN RHETORIC AND ELEANOR ROOSEVELT'S ROLE Colleague David Pietrusza. Alf Landon proves to be an ineffective campaigner with a terrible radio voice, while Eleanor Roosevelt becomes a star, drawing immense crowds. Eleanor is crucial in securing the African-American vote in the North, even as FDR refuses to back anti-lynching laws to avoid alienating the South. The campaign culminates in Roosevelt's blistering speech at Madison Square Garden, where he denounces "economic royalists" and welcomes their hatred. While early polls suggest a contest, Landon's momentum fades as the President aggressively defends the New Deal and attacks wealthy business interests. NUMBER 71936 POLAND

THE CAMPAIGN TRAIL: CLASS WARFARE AND THE BLACK VOTE Colleague David Pietrusza. Alf Landonproved a poor campaigner, taking long vacations and delivering ineffective radio speeches. Conversely, Eleanor Roosevelt became a powerful surrogate, campaigning for the black vote in the North, even as Franklin refused to support anti-lynching laws to appease Southern Democrats. The campaign climaxed with Roosevelt's Madison Square Garden speech, where he utilized "class warfare" rhetoric, welcoming the hatred of "economic royalists." Although polls suggested a tightening race and the administration worried about the ongoing Depression, Roosevelt's "naked demagoguery" and energetic campaigning energized his base against the wealthy interests opposing him. Health Minister Jennifer Carroll MacNeill has told Clare's Oireachtas members that all three options recommended by HIQA's review of emergency care capacity in the Midwest have been accepted. The Government will begin work expanding capacity at University Hospital Limerick, extending the UHL campus to a second nearby site, and developing a new Model 3 hospital with an emergency department in the region, in the new year. Founder of the Midwest Hospital Campaign says option C has been "effectively kicked down the road" without commitment of a site, timeline or funding. To discuss this further, Alan Morrissey was joined by Deirdre Culligan from Friends of Ennis Hospital and Hillary Tonge, founder of the Midwest Hospital Campaign Group.

Earlier this week the government announced changes to climate change policy, with a controversial response to the choice to delay the Carbon Neutral Government Programme benchmark from 2025 to 2050. The move also shifts dynamics of decision-making and consultation. The government has removed the requirement of advisory from the Climate Change Commission when developing emissions budgets, significantly altering the influence of the cross-partisan collective established through the Zero Carbon Act in 2019. Producer Jasmine Gray spoke with Adam Currie, Campaigner and Movement Support Manager for climate organisation 350 Aotearoa, about these changes.

Lord Alf Dubs is a Labour peer and former MP. He came to the UK from Prague in 1939 on one of the Kindertransport trains organised by Sir Nicholas Winton which rescued mostly Jewish children from Nazi-occupied Czechoslovakia.Alf was born in Prague in 1932. His father was from a Jewish background and was brought up in what was then Northern Bohemia while his mother came from Austria. His father left Prague for London as soon as the Nazis invaded Czechoslovakia in March 1939. In June, when he was six-years-old, Alf was put on a Kindertransport train, arriving at Liverpool Street station two days later where he was met by his father. His mother eventually joined them in London the day before war broke out. Alf studied Politics and Economics at the London School of Economics and was elected as the Member of Parliament for Battersea South in May 1979. He lost his seat in 1987 and the following year he was appointed director of the Refugee Council, becoming the first refugee to head up the charity. In March 2016 Alf tabled an amendment to the 2016 Immigration Act (known as the Dubs Amendment) which asked the Government to accept 3,000 unaccompanied refugee children into the UK. The amendment passed but the Government closed the scheme the following year after accepting 480 children. In 2016 Alf received the Humanist of the Year award by Humanists UK of which he is also a patron. The first of our mid-week podcasts that will be published in the lead up to the election features two figures on opposite ends of the political scale. First up, a Senate candidate from the Victorian Socialists, Jordan Van Den Lamb, better known by his online persona Purple Pingers. Jordan is in the headlines again this week after Anthony Albanese had a shot at him because he is encouraging people in Victoria to squat in empty houses in response to the housing crisis. He's got some rather radical ideas and he does represent the fringe in Australian politics, but as we know in Australian politics, sometimes the fringe even gets a start. The second interview you'll hear is with more of an establishment figure in politics. He's an American named Kyle Middleton. He worked on the Kamala Harris campaign in the last US presidential election and has a lot of interesting insights about what went wrong and what could have been done differently. We chat about how the American political system differs to the Australian political system, but also how the American system is heavily influencing the current Australian federal election campaign. Stance visits London to explore the Tate Gallery show The 80s: Photographing Britain with campaigner Marc Thompson. The exhibition examines how photographers used the camera to respond to the seismic social, political, and economic shifts of the era, including the rise of Thatcherism, race uprisings, and the AIDS epidemic. It highlights photography as a vital tool for social representation, cultural celebration, and artistic experimentation, spanning landscapes, self-portraiture, and social documentary during this pivotal and highly creative period.
