It’s been awhile since we had a chance to chat with Robert Berry, and he’s been BUSY since last we spoke, to say the least. 3.2 is on tour now, crossing the country and paying tribute to the musical genius of Keith Emerson.. During the conversation we touched on everything from Carl Palmer to what bass strings he uses, to breakfast cereal! Little did we know that Robert was a fan of Frosted Flakes and to this day plays a Washburn custom bass that Sammy Hagar gave him as a gift. Along the way we learned what they have planned for Progstock coming up in New Jersey and whether or not they’re going to continue along the arc of 3. The band is made up of Robert, Jimmy Keegan, Paul Keller and Andrew Colyer. Robert talks about just how amazing the band is and how well (and quickly) they came together as a group. If you get a chance to catch the live show, you owe it to yourself to do so. It has been receiving rave reviews everywhere they’ve performed. For our Wisconsin listeners, they’ll be playing Shank Hall in Milwaukee on October 20. Along the way there will be plenty of great music from Circuline, Andrew's solo and soundtrack work, and one from an album he did with the band Cell 15!
This week on Prog-Watch I'm chatting with the talented and prolific Andrew Colyer! He will also be touring later this year with Robert Berry in the live band for Robert's 3.2 project. Andrew and I talked about all of this and more, and in this week's program you can hear some of our chat. Of course there will also be a boatload of great music from Circuline, his solo piano albums and soundtracks, and a project called The Prog Rock Orchestra! I hope you will join us!

Keyboard veteran Andrew Colyer has secured possibly one of the most difficult gigs today – covering keyboard parts made legendary by Keith Emerson, Rick Wakeman, Jordan Rudess and Tony Banks! Andrew will be performing with 3.2 featuring Robert Berry this coming spring! If anyone is qualified for the position, it's Andrew who has performed and collaborated with the likes of Tony Levin (Peter Gabriel, King Crimson), Jon Anderson (YES), The Tubes, Sound of Contact featuring Simon Collins, Ryche Chlanda (Fireballet, Renaissance), Max Flyer (CBS Records), Clark Terry, Louis Bellson among others....not to mention his own band, Prog-award-nominated Circuline! Keith Emerson left a legacy of music. From his beginnings with The Nice in the 1960's, to worldwide fame with Emerson Lake & Palmer in the 1970's, to his reinvention in the 1980's with the #9 Billboard hit “Talkin' Bout” in the band “3” with Robert Berry and Carl Palmer, Emerson's name is one almost everyone has heard of.
New York's Circuline is going live -- on CD, DVD, and Blu-Ray, that is. The band first heard from on Progtopia in Episode 094 is making the first of two planned concert products available this May, two years after their appearance at RoSFest in Gettysburg. Dubbed Circulive::Majestik, it chronicles that show in both video and audio form, and if you jump in on their Pledge Music campaign by April 17, you can get some neat perks along with it. Hear from keyboardist Andrew Colyer and drummer Darin Brannon about the process of creating the video version, the planned second live release later this year, and why they won't be touring again until 2019. In the Prog Squad, all four panelists are miraculously present to talk about the rumored demise of iTunes in favor of fully-streaming platforms, whether Gizmodrome truly is a super group, and if music videos still have a place 30-plus years after TV showed them regularly. Finally, Mark makes a plea for recognition of Webber and Rice's musical Jesus Christ Superstar as a progressive masterwork. Circuline is on the web at www.circulinemusic.com. Featured songs/excerpts: "Hollow" (Circuline) "Summit" (Circuline) "Stereotypes" (Circuline) "Man in the Mountain" (Gizmodrome) "Trial before Pilate" (Jesus Christ Superstar cast) "Gethsemane (I Only Want to Say)" (Jesus Christ Superstar cast) "One Wish" (Circuline) "Like" Progtopia on Facebook (www.facebook.com/Progtopia and www.facebook.com/groups/1380357308874546/) and follow Progtopia on Twitter (@Progtopia) to send a message about the show and to receive news about current and upcoming interviews.
