‚Standing on the edge of time‘ – eine Zeile, die fast prophetisch das Ende der Band vorwegzunehmen scheint. Willkommen zur Fortsetzung von "The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway". The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway". The three-piece version of Genesis became increasingly popular from 1978 onward, with 1986's Invisible Touch being their biggest yet. Phil Collins managed a successful solo career starting in 1981 and was popular enough that Mike Rutherford and Tony Banks expected him to leave. However, he came back for one more album, We Can't Dance, in 1991. It again spawned a number of hits, but also was their longest since The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway.

The last time Genesis keyboard player extraordinaire Tony Banks came on the show was a few years ago, and we discussed a box set of his solo albums. Since then there has been a final Genesis tour, “The Last Domino?”, which I got to see the opening and closing nights of, and Tony now has a new boxset compiling his three classical albums “7”, “6”, and “5”. The first half of the interview we take a deep dive into that process which I hope you'll find interesting. Creating classical music isn't something we've really explored on the podcast before. In the second half of the interview Tony shares details of an upcoming boxset of “The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway”, and he also confirms details of a reissue of their 60's debut album “From Genesis To Revelation”, which in the past has been ignored from official Genesis reissue campaigns. We talk about how he feels he is perceived by Genesis fans, and whether he's tempted to emulate the very successful touring approach of former Genesis bandmate Steve Hackett, who incidentally he also clarifies his feeling about during our chat. I think this conversation is quite something. Hope you enjoy. Let me know what you think. Instagram: @sendingsignalspodcastX: @signalspodcast

Fulham FC is among the most storied clubs in the history of English football. And, uniquely, it holds a special place in the history of soccer in America as well. After Egyptian businessman Mohamed Al-Fayed bought the club in 1997, he promised the club would return to the England's top flight within five years. The owner began spending in the transfer market to improve the club's roster. And one unexpected source of talent emerged starting in 1999 with the arrival of Marcus Hahnemann from Colorado Rapids on Major League Soccer (MLS) - the United States. Within a few years, Fulham brought key players into its squad from the US, those players became club legends, and the concept of Fulhamerica was born. Tony Banks, journalist and author of The Great Adventure: Al-Fayed's Rollercoaster Ride with Fulham FC, joined Founding Futbol to walk through the progression of the Fulhamerica evolution. He shares his thoughts on what prompted the influx of American talent, how some players fit and how the new era of American talent at the club differs from the first wave. There are two distinct eras of music by The Doobie Brothers.  From their formation in 1970 until 1975, Tom Johnston was the lead vocalist, and the group had a mainstream rock sound, with some folk and “California Country” influences.  Starting in 1975, Michael McDonald joined the group as a keyboardist, as well as providing lead vocal work to help Johnston, who was having health problems at the time.  Over the following years, Johnston would have less influence as he neared retirement from the group in 1977.  Michael McDonald would influence the group into a more soulful sound, often called “blue eyed soul.”  Today we would call this “yacht rock.”Minute By Minute, the eighth studio album from the group, comes from the height of the McDonald era.  It is a high water mark for the Doobie Brothers both commercially and critically.  The album would spend 87 weeks on the Billboard 200 album charts in the U.S., topping the charts in five of those weeks.  It would also produce multiple nominations and wins at the Grammy awards in 1980 including Record and Song of the Year wins for “What a Fool Believes.”The Doobie Brothers would break up in 1982, then reform with Johnston back as front man in 1987.  Michael McDonald would rejoin the band full time in 2019 in time for their 50th anniversary tour. You can still find them on tour today.Rob brings us this soulful album for today's podcast. What A Fool BelievesThe lyrics of this hit narrate the story of a man who meets an old crush and tries to rekindle their relationship, only to find out that there never really was a relationship in the first place.  Michael McDonald and Kenny Loggins wrote this single, which became a number 1 hit in the US and Canada.Dependin' On YouMichael McDonald and Patrick Simmons wrote this song, and Simmons takes over lead singer duties.  It went to number 25 on the Billboard Hot 100.  The Latin-infused call-and-response song celebrates a rock solid love that is always there.Don't Stop to Watch the WheelsThis shuffle beat deeper cut is sung by Patrick Simmons, and was the B-side from the single release of “What a Fool Believes.” “Look out, hold on, don't stop to watch the wheels go 'round.  Look out, hold on, I got to cover ground.”Minute By MinuteThe title track finds Michael McDonald handling lead vocals, and was written by McDonald and Lester Abrams.  The single was released in April of 1979, and it went to number 14 on the US charts.  The smooth keyboard-driven sound reflects the  Motown inspiration, and is a hallmark song of the “yacht rock” genre. ENTERTAINMENT TRACK:Every Which Way But Loose by Eddie Rabbitt (from the motion picture “Every Which Way But Loose”)Clint Eastwood would take a break from his action and western movies for this comedy with an orangutan co-star named Clyde. STAFF PICKS:Don't Stop Me Now by Queen Bruce leads off this week's staff picks with a single from Queen's "Jazz" album.  While this tribute to hedonism did well in the UK, it only hit number 86 on the US charts.  It would grow in popularity over time, and would be featured in multiple commercials including Toyota, L'Oréal, and American Idol.Double Vision by ForeignerLynch features a song from Foreigner's second album of the same name.  It reached number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100.  Surprisingly, the inspiration for the song title was an event at a hockey game when a goalie had to be removed after a collision on the ice because he was experiencing double vision.Homicide by 999 Wayne brings us a band from London that is named for the number used in the UK to reach emergency services.  This punk-infused song takes a tongue-in-cheek look at serial killers.  While a top 40 hit in the UK, it didn't chart in the States.  You might recognize this song from the soundtrack to the John Wick series, “The Continental.”Follow You Follow Me by Genesis Rob closes out the staff picks with a softer song from the progressive group Genesis, the closer from their album “...And Then There Were Three...”  The group had condensed to the three members of Phil Collins, Mike Rutherford, and Tony Banks, after former member Steve Hackett chose to leave.   INSTRUMENTAL TRACK:Steamer Lane Breakdown by The Doobie BrothersWe get a little double dip of the Doobies as we exit today's podcast on this instrumental number.  Thanks for listening to “What the Riff?!?” NOTE: To adjust the loudness of the music or voices, you may adjust the balance on your device. The Grammy-winning bluesman followed that up with a gracious response: “We all get it from somewhere.”That “somewhere” is a muse that molds every guitarist's individualistic style and voice. For example, Eddie Van Halen shook the world and confounded guitarists with his explosive two-hand, finger-tapped “Eruption” performance on Van Halen's 1978 debut. Yngwie Malmsteen put listeners in awe with his dazzlingly clean and swift sweep arpeggios. They both became synonymous with those talented techniques, and were heralded as pioneering groundbreakers. But where did they get the ideas from before expressing and executing them it in their signature style? Both took a page out Steve Hackett's prog-rock playbook. Hackett's two-hand tapping technique can be heard in the early '70s on Genesis' albums Nursery Cryme and Foxtrot. Hackett's sweep picking was first heard on the 1973 Selling England by the Pound track “Dancing with the Moonlit Knight.” Those contributions alone should've been enough to land Hackett in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. (His combined work on six Genesis albums in six years earned him a slot in 2010.) On top of that smashing success and influence, he's recorded nearly 30 solo albums—ranging from prog-rock and blues to world and classical—over a dozen live albums, and even traded licks with Steve Howe in the short-lived supergroup GTR. Hackett might not be recalled like the other guitar greats, but without his shoulders to stand on, those first-name giants might not have shone as bright. Hackett's headlining Ryman Auditorium tour stop in late October 2023 celebrated the 50th anniversary of Genesis' Foxtrot—a seminal, prog-rock tour de force that was recorded when singer Peter Gabriel, bassist/guitarist Mike Rutherford, drummer Phil Collins, keyboardist Tony Banks, and Hackett were in their early 20s. Before the show, PG's Chris Kies was invited onstage to go over the minimal-but-mighty setup used by Hackett. First tech Vince O'Malley detailed a Fernandes goldtop (once owned by Gary Moore) with its limitless Sustainer circuit and a treasured nylon-string Alvarez built by master luthier Kazuo Yairi in the 1970s. Then Hackett himself joined the fun and plugged his Fernandes into his pedalboard to show off all the sounds, tones, and colors he requires to honor his days in Genesis.Shop the Rig:D'Addario Pro-Arte' Nylon Light Tension EJ43 - https://sweetwater.sjv.io/jrGvL5Engl Powerball - https://sweetwater.sjv.io/VmvG53Marshall 1960A 4x12 Cabinet - https://sweetwater.sjv.io/XYvVeaCelestion G12T-75W Speakers - https://sweetwater.sjv.io/9gjXYyTech 21 SansAmp GT2 - https://sweetwater.sjv.io/zN57VMBoss PS-6 Harmonist - https://sweetwater.sjv.io/DKZ2NnEHX Attack Decay - https://sweetwater.sjv.io/1rMmNdFishman Aura - https://sweetwater.sjv.io/g1e2EBDigiTech Mosaic - https://sweetwater.sjv.io/k01mqNIbanez TS9 Tube Screamer - https://sweetwater.sjv.io/EKVmjeDigiTech Whammy WH-5 - https://sweetwater.sjv.io/q4LBROTC Electronic Flashback 2 X4 Delay - https://sweetwater.sjv.io/B0V6MLMXR EVH Phase 90 - https://sweetwater.sjv.io/vNbBJjVoodoo Lab Pedal Power 2 Plus - https://sweetwater.sjv.io/LXm31VDunlop 105Q Cry Baby Bass Wah - https://sweetwater.sjv.io/Gm4vNkRadial ProDI Passive Direct Box - https://sweetwater.sjv.io/PyqVbNErnie Ball Extra Slinkys - https://sweetwater.sjv.io/ZQvZA1Full Rig Details: https://bit.ly/SteveHackettRRSubscribe to PG's Channel: http://bit.ly/SubscribePGYouTubeWin Guitar Gear:...

In another engaging webinar with NXUnite, Jeff Porter is joined by Lauren Batterby, founder and CEO at Life Events Staffing, Scott Roseveare, president and co-founder of Risk Free Item Shop, and event consultant Tony Banks. These expert fundraisers share knowledge gained from decades in the nonprofit and charitable event industries, ensuring that your event will be engaging, profitable, and unforgettable.Several common themes emerge on key elements for a successful event. Events need a clear, realistic goal communicated effectively. Highlight the impact of donations to engage donors emotionally. By leveraging technology and compelling storytelling, we increase donor engagement. Recent years have taught us the power of remote outreach and inclusive events accessible to all audiences. Event organizers must be open to redefining traditional event norms as donor demographics continue to change. The best way to increase net profitability at an event is by focusing on what will bring in the most money versus cutting costs. As we embrace the lessons from recent years and chart a course towards inclusive, technology-driven, and emotionally resonant experiences, we unlock the potential for events that not only capture hearts but also elevate the impact of charitable endeavors.Main Topics Key elements of a successful fundraiser (02:35) The evolution of events since 2020 (09:55) Making events more engaging and profitable (16:48) Keeping fundraisers cost-effective (30:00) Offering a variety of auction items and price points (39:15) Online bidding software vs. paper bid sheets (45:20)   Episode Links https://lifeeventstaffing.com https://www.riskfreeitemshop.com https://thinkcs.org/people-tony-banks  If you enjoyed this episode please subscribe and leave us a review in the Apple podcasts app.Listen, rate, and subscribe!Apple PodcastsSpotifyGoogle Podcasts

As 10 years olds in 1983, Genesis self-titled album was our introduction to the band with singles & MTV videos like Mama, That's All & Illegal Alien. We had no awareness of the band as prog superstars in the 1970s with Peter Gabriel & Steve Hackett and would only learn of that incarnation later in life. Phil Collins solo career was also on a huge upward swing after the release of Face Value (1980) and Hello I Must Be Going (1982). When Phil, Mike Rutherford and Tony Banks reconvened Genesis the band was gaining momentum from all sides and since they decided for the first time to credit all music to everyone equally, they felt the eponymous title made sense for a record they collaborated on together with fewer self-penned ideas coming in. But where does it stand in their legacy? They've eschewed the lengthy prog songs they wrote in the 70s for shorter, more pop friendly melodies. While Phil Collins singing and drumming were both strong on this album, are all these songs discernible from what he was doing in his solo career? Were they trading success for the ubiquity that would follow with Collins next solo release No Jacket Required (25 million sold) and their 1986 record Invisible Touch (over 15 million sold)? And what were they thinking with Illegal Alien? Would the adult contemporary/middle-of-the-roadness of this album define their sound and the image of Phil as a solo artist? Kyke Serrano nos presta ‘Selling England by the Pound' de Genesis. The Shout is a 1978 British horror film directed by Jerzy Skolimowski (who is also an Actor was in Mars Attacks and played a General in Marvels The Avengers). It was based on a short story by Robert Graves (author of I, Claudius and great friend of Spike Milligan, with whom, from the 1960s until his death, he frequently exchanged letters, Many of which are collected in the book ‘Dear Robert, Dear Spike') Grave's short story was adapted for the screen by Skolimowski and Michael Austin screenwriter of Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes. The film was the first to be produced by Jeremy Thomas under his ‘Recorded Picture Company' banner. Thomas went on to produce and exec-produce 70 more films (to date) including Naked Lunch, The last Emperor, Crash, The Great Rock 'n' Roll Swindle, Sexy Beast and High-rise.Interiors were shot at Pinewood Studios, the film's sets were designed by the art director Simon Holland (Quadrophenia, Buster, Nuns on the Run and King Ralph). The North Devon coastline, specifically Saunton Sands and Braunton Burrows, were used for the bulk of the location shooting. The church of St Peter in Westleigh was used for the church scenes. The soundtrack is by Michael Rutherford and Tony Banks of the rock band Genesis (After the original first choice of David Bowie turned it down). When heard in theatres in Dolby Stereo, it was aurally separating and distorting. Reportedly, forty different music tracks were used for the sound, when it was usual for films of this era to use just 4.The film was nominated for the Palme d'Or at the 1978 Cannes Film Festival and received the Grand Prize of the Jury, in a tie with Bye Bye Monkey (A film staring Gérard Depardieu about a man who finds the corpse of King Kong and Kong's orphaned son, and takes it to a friend who lives in the city, and they decide to raise it.)
