Comics writer Joey Esposito returns to the show to talk with Byron about his big projects dropping in July, Killer Influences from IDW's Crime Imprint and Power Rangers Unlimited from Boom Studios. We discuss the value of making things by hand then jump into the dark world of his new satirical, true crime project Killer Influences and how the book Murderland inspired Joey to want to examine modern clout chasing and content culture in a comic book. Then we flip the script and jump into the kinetic universe of Power Rangers Unlimited and Byron gets the full download from a dedicated superfan and how Joey and co-writing partner Kenny Porter are condensing 30 years of canon into this exciting new book; Byron discovers his favorite new character, Captain Mutiny; and Joey talks about the new ranger, Striking Tiger Unlimited Ranger. Killer Influences from IDW Crime Killer Influences follows Melvin, a serial killer who is aspiring to be one of the most infamous to ever do it, a true American nightmare. His problem? He's so efficient and methodical that he doesn't have a brand. No one has connected his crimes—except for Kylie, an aspiring true crime influencer who is flailing at a small-town newspaper. When she comes across Melvin's crimes and reaches out to him… she figures out how she's going to become a star. She will give Melvin the identity he needs to be the iconic serial killer he wants to be, while she follows his exploits on her channel and becomes famous. Kylie and Melvin make a pact that will make their dreams come true and destroy their lives in the process. Eisner Award nominee Joey Esposito (The Pedestrian, Batman: Urban Legends) and rising-star artist Valeria Burzo (Castle Full of Blackbirds, EC Comics) deliver a scathing and thrilling true crime serial killer saga with Killer Influences! Jake and Josh made a mistake by watching "Alien Rangers Of Aquitar Pt.2" a little later than normal and as a result they're a little loopy. Listen in for their thoughts on what color ranger each Ninja Turtle would be, how the time stuff works, and the quality of Delphine's morph call. The rangers are children, The Command Center is unplugged, and Master Vile has a sinister plan. Jake and Josh watched "The Alien Rangers Of Aquitar Pt.1" and things are looking pretty dire for the Power Rangers. But there are some real good goofs. Dr. Snuggles and friends return for episode 50 of your guide to the truly astonishing world of softcore films, and the world’s number one podcast on that subject! We’re continuing with our current big project, an episode by episode look at the story of two siblings, Randy and Kat. See, they were living in a flat, all by themselves, when they got a telegram that informed them of the death of their Aunt Betty, and said they should come and run her hotel. Her Hot Springs Hotel. And so, we’re looking at episodes 4, 5, and 6: Movie People, Corporate Raiders, and Beauty Pageant! There’s some fun to be had, particularly in episode 6, but also episode 4 is by far the worst one of the series, so there’s that as well. To balance it out, we invited our friend Jimmy Ether on to help lighten the mood! Plus, we look at the life and career of one of the guest stars from episode 4, the great Alan Palmer. He’s best known for two things: his long running one man shows Fabulous Divas of Broadway and Fabulous Divas of Hollywood, and his 10 episode run on Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, as Corcus, the Black Ranger from a planet called Aquitar, who was part of the Alien Rangers team drafted to fill in for Earth’s Power Rangers when they were rendered powerless and transformed into children by Master Vile. Seriously, he’s very in demand to speak about the latter. Power Rangers fans are super enthusiastic. He helped us out by doing a little email interview with us, which is definitely the only time anyone has ever bothered him to talk about Hot Springs Hotel. So, thanks Alan!
