We have more Mike Flanagan news this week. With the release date of his Carrie series we discuss what we would like to see from the show. Predator: Badlands recently released on Hulu and did record numbers. We talk about what this means for the franchise. We have been lucky to cover some fantastic true crime documentaries on our humble little podcast. We have also seen some great folk horror. We never thought the two would come together. The Last Sacrifice does just that in a surprising documentary. There have been plenty of movies that have been moving along nicely when they suddenly lose the plot. Things become a mess at that point and it is pretty much impossible to get things back on track. A strong argument can be made that The Last Sacrifice loses its way. But it is one of the most fascinating tangents you will ever see. And it ultimately does tie into the greater mystery. The Dreadful will draw lots of attention for its casting of Kit Harrington and Sophie Turner. But it is a performance from another actor that steals the show. The film covers some deep themes and is bolstered by its fantastic setting. But one missed opportunity prevents it from being something truly special. A character driven psychological horror, The Dreadful does not necessarily need a Big Bad, but when it introduces one, it is hard not to expect more from it. And to be supremely disappointed when nothing comes of it. Adventures in Movies! is a part of the Morbidly Beautiful Podcast Network. The Big Bad Broadcast crew keeps it loose and lively on this Friday the 13th edition, bouncing from driving habits across the U.S. to the quirks of modern physicals, yes, including the great PSA-versus-prostate debate. The guys break down the Super Bowl halftime spectacle, defending its bold multilingual flair while calling out a few commercials (Adrian Brody, we see you) that actually stood out. Plus, it’s a frosty one: the team compares weather extremes from Florida to Niagara Falls before diving into Winter Olympics fever, curling, figure skating, halfpipe, biathlon, and even the legendary 938-mile Iditarod dog race. Smart laughs, sharp takes, and just enough science and sports to keep it downright addictive.

Have you ever opened a published TTRPG adventure, read three chapters in, and thought: "There is absolutely no way my players will do any of this"? Welcome to Adapting Published TTRPG Settings, where the RPGBOT crew explains why modules are suggestions, railroads are imaginary, and your Big Bad will absolutely die three sessions early because someone invented an arcane nuclear device. Whether you're running Dungeons & Dragons, Pathfinder 2e, or your favorite tabletop roleplaying game, this episode is all about how to customize published adventures, steal player backstories, break plots responsibly, and still pretend you planned it all from the beginning. Show Notes In this episode of the RPGBOT.Podcast, the hosts dive deep into adapting published TTRPG settings to better suit your table, your players, and the chaos they inevitably create. Drawing from years of experience running official D&D adventures, Pathfinder 2e campaigns, and homebrew nightmares, the team explains why no module survives first contact with players—and why that's a good thing. Topics include how to customize published adventures without breaking the story, when it's okay to railroad (yes, really), and how to balance sandbox freedom with guided play. The hosts discuss common pitfalls like breaking narrative continuity, accidentally ruining game mechanics, and losing focus when a side quest becomes the main plot. You'll also learn why player backstories, class features, and character goals are the best raw material for reshaping any tabletop RPG setting. Practical advice covers adding new villains, replacing weak encounters, cutting boring dungeons, and remixing iconic elements from other TTRPG adventures and settings. From fixing overly linear modules to turning side quests into emotional gut punches, this episode is a masterclass in adventure customization for Game Masters who want their campaigns to feel personal, memorable, and fun. Key Takeaways for Game Masters Published TTRPG adventures are guidelines, not gospel, and should be adapted to fit your players' interests and play style. There is a healthy middle ground between sandbox chaos and rigid railroading, often called a guided experience. Player backstories, goals, and class mechanics are the best tools for customizing published modules. It's easier to add content than remove it, but cutting boring or irrelevant sections is sometimes necessary. Breaking the story, mechanics, or balance can be fun—if you know what you're doing and why. Players don't remember plot holes; they remember closed narrative loops that make past actions feel meaningful. If a side quest becomes more fun than the main plot, promote it—your players will thank you. Every published TTRPG setting can support wildly different campaigns depending on how the GM adapts it. Another defeat for the Reds, making it four in a row and a very Unhappy New Year for Sean Dyche and his men. The first half was a war of attrition, with Forest absorbing Villa pressure, until the inevitable momentary lapse of concentration saw Ollie Watkins' powerful 20 yarder hit the back of the net. Almost straight after half-time, John McGinn scored to end the contest, and although Morgan Gibbs-White pulled one back on the break, just minutes later, Forest threw it away. If John Victor got the benefit of the doubt for the first goal, then there was nowhere to hide for the third as he came racing into no-man's land, and McGinn slotted into an empty net. The Maradona of the Midlands is joined by a despondent and angry George Edwards to conduct a post-mortem, with a view from the home fans provided by Neil of our Sports Social stablemates "For The Love of Paul McGrath". Send us a textWhat is liberal education? It's the prompt that has launched one thousand essays, and in a 1959 lecture at the University of Chicago, the (in)famous Leo Strauss gave his answer. Despite fleeing Nazi Germany and coming to the United States, Strauss wasn't afraid of criticizing the positivism, historicism, and relativism of the American academy. And as is evident in reading his lecture "What is Liberal Education?" neither was he afraid of calling into question the value and feasibility of modern democracy. Nathan and Ryan take a joyride through Roger Corman's Big Bad Mama (1974), a raucous slice of '70s exploitation that blends crime, sex, and high-speed chases. Angie Dickinson stars as Wilma McClatchie, a gun-toting mama leading her daughters on a Depression-era crime spree filled with booze, bullets, and bank robberies. The hosts discuss Corman's brand of rebellious filmmaking, the movie's mix of grit and camp, and how it helped define the “outlaw family” subgenre of B-movies.

Today we run through equity markets trying to reset after the jump and retreat in global yields, possibly linked to the Trump tariff ruling as we await the Supreme Court ruling on tariffs as the next step. Elsewhere, Saxo Equity Strategist Ruben Dalfovo looks at the latest earnings reports yesterday, especially Figma and Salesforce, which both traded lower after their reports. He also previews what we should look for from Broadcom reporting after the close today and profiles precious metals mining companies (see link to article below). This and more, including some dark thoughts on history taking a dramatic step forward this week after China's Xi teamed up with Putin and Kim Jong Un at the Beijing parade. Today's pod hosted by Saxo Global Head of Macro Strategy John J. Hardy. Ruben's article on precious metals mining companies. Links discussed on the podcast and our Chart of the Day can be found on the John J. Hardy substack (with a one- to two-hour delay from the time of the podcast release). Plus, she brings along The Tainted Cup by Robert Jackson Bennett, a surprisingly fun fantasy detective novel series beginning.Join the Patreon and hang out in the monthly book club, listen to exclusive episodes, and get access to the SMDB virtual book stoop a couple times a year! https://patreon.com/smdbFor the drink recipe, every book and link mentioned, and more, visit: https://www.somanydamnbooks.com/episodes/episode-245music: Disaster Magic(https://soundcloud.com/disaster-magic) Hosted on Acast. She also discusses Democrats appearing for the funeral of Minnesota House Speaker Melissa Hortman with Joe Biden looking sharp and spry as he attended. She and her husband Mark were shot and killed in their home on June 14 by a right-wing whack job. Minnesota State Sen. John Hoffman and his wife Yvette were also shot the same day but survived the attempted assassination.
