Grief has a soundtrack—and so does joy. We open with a heartfelt salute to Catherine O'Hara, tracing how a single scene, a laugh line, or a voice can linger long after the credits, then wander into the wild terrain where memory and music meet. From Beetlejuice's dinner table possession to Home Alone's enduring comfort, we reflect on how film and song become the waypoints we use to navigate time. That doorway leads us to a run of resonant passings and timeless cuts: Demond Wilson's place in Sanford and Son and the instant-transport power of Quincy Jones' Street Beater, the exuberant lift of Three Dog Night's Joy to the World, and a trip through New York's CBGB with Television's Fred Smith, Marquee Moon, and the creative stubbornness that forged a landmark record. We trace another kind of legacy through Lynn Blakey—muse behind Left of the Dial—and the thrill of literally finding a friend on college radio while touring dark highways. Her voice in Salt Collective's recent release becomes proof that “new” music thrives when veterans share a room, a pen, and superior instincts. Along the way we spotlight the Pretenders' crisp poetry, Dolly Parton's ever-true 9 to 5, and Siouxsie and the Banshees turning the ash of Pompeii into a dance-floor revelation. These are touchstones that explain why a Pink Floyd joke can still land and why Mount Vesuvius can power a chorus. Then the lens widens to the Blitzkrieg Bop at 50—a hook first shouted in downtown clubs that now rattles stadiums and commercial breaks—and ask how simple phrases become lifelong companions. It's a tour through what lasts, why it lasts, and how it keeps finding us—left of the dial and right in the heart. If this journey moved you, tap follow, share it with a friend who loves great stories about music and film, and leave us a quick review with your favorite “timeless” track—we'll feature picks in a future mailbag.Learn Something New orRemember Something OldPlease like and follow the Music in My Shoes Facebook and Instagram pagesReach out to us at musicinmyshoes@gmail.comSend us a one-way message. Happy Thursday, you pop culture junkies. This week, Brooke navigates the strange disconnect between media narratives and reality, starting with the Melania documentary. We look at the "social discourse" (read: the jokes) surrounding the film, the defaced billboards, and the media trying to convince us it was a massive hit. (Spoiler Alert: Brooke did the math. It was not.) Also in this episode: • The Grammys & The Moment: It wasn't just about the music this year. Brooke breaks down the night's heavy political undertones, specifically what artists like Bad Bunny and Billie Eilish had to say about ICE, immigration, and the current state of the country. • Best New Artist Breakdown: We look at the crowded field of nominees—from the internet-famous (Addison Rae, Alex Warren) to the critically acclaimed—and discuss Olivia Dean's emotional win. • Who is Dr. Peter Attia? You've seen his name in the headlines, but why is the famous longevity expert suddenly the center of a major controversy? Brooke explains the "Epstein emails" scandal that SHOULD cost him his CBS contributor role and why everyone is talking about "low carb" in the worst possible context. • A Tribute to Moira Rose: Finally, we end with a tearful homage to the legendary Catherine O'Hara. We celebrate the life of our favorite TV mom, from Beetlejuice to Home Alone to the icon that was Moira Rose. Jill comments on the weather implications of Groundhog Day and mentions Terry’s completion of a book in the Eve Dallas series. The group discussed a new outdoor security camera that Keith had mounted on his house. They talked about its features, including night vision, a 360-degree rotation, and a two-way speaker. Keith shared a new story about Macaulay Culkin’s secret identity as Kevin from Home Alone, which he keeps from his children to preserve the movie’s magic. They also talked about a viral story about frowning horse dolls in China, which became popular due to a factory error that made the horses appear sad. Terry mentioned that the dolls were selling well, with orders reaching tens of thousands and reaching as far as South Africa. They discussed various topics related to the Old Testament, including creation, the story of Esther, and the departure of the Israelites. Keith mentioned that the quiz was quick and easy. Terry's Top 10 List Hey! Where's Terry's top 10 list? I knew he did one, but our AI companion must've fallen asleep and didn't write anything about it. They touched on the importance of communication and the need for support groups. Keith also mentioned an upcoming MCAB meeting. The late and irreplaceable Catherine O'Hara's greatness lived in the microscopic choices — the mouthed lines, the half-beats, the emotions stacked on top of jokes — none of which were written down, and all of which made the comedy work. From Waiting for Guffman to Best in Show to Beetlejuice, she gave audiences “permission to laugh” by making even the most absurd premises feel emotionally true. Which is why the Home Alone franchise became a global phenomenon, and why for writers especially, her loss is painful in a very specific way: The best, funniest, most essential parts of a script aren't written, if you're lucky enough to have Catherine O'Hara reading your lines. The episode opens with Daniel and Adam settling into another live Friday night on Pride48, immediately derailed by technical gremlins, Zoom notifications, and musings about whether the theme song is slowly becoming a prog-rock epic. From there, the discussion meanders into TV talk, especially The Traitors, complete with strong opinions, conspiracies about editing tricks, and speculation about Alan Cumming filming monologues in a freezing Scottish void while everyone else waits in an RV.Midway through, the show shifts into the Contact segment, which is light on emails but heavy on voicemails. Callers weigh in on podcast release schedules, listener habits, and—most notably—multiple reports of Catherine O'Hara's “death,” which spirals into a running gag about her being most famous not for Schitt's Creek or Home Alone, but for narrating Canada Far and Wide at Epcot. The segment includes playful confusion over voicemail order, timestamps, and who really broke the news first. The episode closes with the News Game, as Adam quizzes Daniel on headlines, followed by bonus Disney trivia. Along the way, there's chatter about retirement rules, Survivor 50, current events overload, and general end-of-week brain fatigue. The whole hour is classic Gay Mix chaos: pop culture, Disney devotion, listener calls, and affectionate bickering held together with duct tape, sarcasm, and a phone number Daniel hopes he's been saying correctly for five years.Email: Contact@MixMinusPodcast.comVoice/SMS: 707-613-3284
“If celebrity deaths really come in threes… who's the third, and how did the Dallas Cowboys end up involved?”That's the thought-provoking, slightly chaotic question that launches this wildly entertaining episode of The Ben and Skin Show, featuring your favorite quartet: Ben Rogers, Jeff “Skin” Wade, Kevin “KT” Turner, and Krystina Ray.The conversation kicks off with the passing of the legendary Catherine O'Hara, beloved for Home Alone, Schitt's Creek, and more. The gang reflects on her iconic scream — “KEVIN!” — which KT admits shaped his entire life as a kid. As the hosts unpack her surprising medical history — including the rare condition in which the organs develop on the opposite side of the body — KT, Krystina, Ben, and Skin explore what it means for her legacy, why the news shocked the entertainment world, and how she'll be written out of her current show. But that's not all, there were two other celebrity deaths over the weekend that KT was tracking and you might be surprised how much one of them hit close to home for Big Ben.

This past week was full of new hires, transfer portal juggling and some questionable goverment arrests of notable journalists. We cover who we think will win the superbowl, what the new coaching landscape looks like in 2026, and Matt tells you how he really feels about Robert Kraft. The Portal shuffle is upon us with a free agency style for 18-22 year olds, and Unlimited transfers... what could go wrong? The great American pastime is almost upon us and we could not be more thrilled, 10 days until Pitchers and Catchters Report, spring training is back! We finally made it through January and ALL it threw at us, including this past week the arrest of two notbale journalists covering and reporting on a news story in Minnesota church. We have crossed into open use of federal power against reporters, and this futher indicates trying to erode 1st ammendment rights. A lot of americans participated in the National Economic Blackout on Jan 30. 2026.No work, No School, No shopping. To encourage the withdrwal of ice agents. Thousands of people participated and showed up in sub zero temps. Other ways you can participate is the Resist & Unsubscibe movement, the tech industry will respond when you effect their bottom line. The Goverment is in an offical shutdown, after the Senate removed the funding for DHS, from the approparations bill, it was a bipartisan effort, the DHS will be funded at it's current level for the next two weeks and then that department will not be funded until a new reduced amount passes the house. This should come up for a vote quickly, although Johnson might delay and bring it with his very very narrow majoity. If the down ballot elections are any indication it looks like that majority will vanish at the midterm, or possibly before with speical elections in California and Georgia. The Cooper and Anthony Show dives headfirst into the week's wildest headlines with their signature no-holds-barred, laugh-out-loud takedowns. In this episode, the duo unleashes on the bizarre saga surrounding Don Lemon—from his dramatic federal custody stint tied to that anti-ICE protest chaos to his defiant post-release mic-drop moments. They don't pull punches, roasting the drama, the optics, and everything in between. Then they pivot to the heartbreaking (and way too soon) news of Catherine O'Hara's passing at 71—the beloved comedy queen of Schitt's Creek, Home Alone, and so much more. Expect heartfelt tributes mixed with their classic irreverent humor as they celebrate her iconic career while being unapologetically savage about the absurdity of losing legends too early. And because no Cooper and Anthony episode is complete without going full savage mode, they turn their mean streak up to 11 on "plowing Philly"—tearing into whatever ridiculous, Philly-flavored mess (snowstorms? sports disasters? something way dirtier?) has the internet (and them) in stitches. Snarky, ruthless, and zero regrets. If you love sharp wit, zero filter, and hosts who will say the quiet part out loud (and then yell it), this is the episode that delivers the goods. Tune in for the laughs, the burns, and the takes so hot they might get them canceled... again.

On January 30, 2026, Catherine O'Hara — the singular comedic force whose fearless character work helped redefine modern comedy — died at the age of 71. A performer of extraordinary precision and range, O'Hara built a career not on punchlines but on total commitment, transforming eccentricity into emotional truth. From her groundbreaking work on SCTV to her unforgettable turns as the frantic matriarch in Home Alone, the pretentious Delia Deetz in Beetlejuice, and the impeccably unhinged Moira Rose on Schitt's Creek, O'Hara shaped generations of comedy with intelligence, restraint, and daring specificity. Across film, television, and improvisational mockumentaries with Christopher Guest, she proved that the funniest performances often come from taking characters completely seriously — leaving behind a legacy as influential as it is beloved.
