Welcome to this week's episode of The Superwoman Code! Today, we dive into a conversation with Dr. Hasan Merali, a pediatric emergency medicine doctor and global child health researcher at McMaster University. Hasan has just released his first book, Sleep Well, Take Risks, Squish the Peas, which is full of insights drawn from the incredible world of toddlers. He joins us to discuss what we can learn from the little humans in our lives, particularly about living with more joy, presence, and intentionality. Key Takeaways In Today's Episode: 1. Learning From Toddlers: We explore the invaluable lessons toddlers offer us about being more present, taking risks, and embracing joy. Toddlers live in the moment, laugh abundantly, and play without a purpose—behaviors that adults can benefit from to boost creativity and well-being. 2. The Power of Saying No: Hasan shares how toddlers are masters of boundary setting, and we discuss the significance of learning to say “no” as adults to prevent overwhelm and burnout. It's about creating the space we need to thrive, not just survive. 3. Sleep as a Non-Negotiable: One of the most crucial lessons toddlers teach us is the importance of a consistent sleep routine. Hasan walks us through a toddler-inspired sleep routine that adults can adopt, including tips like setting a strict bedtime, minimizing screen time before sleep, and engaging in calming pre-bed rituals. 4. Infusing Play Into Our Lives: From reframing everyday chores into enjoyable side quests to adopting activities like improv that encourage spontaneity, we discuss how play can make our lives richer and more enjoyable. 5. Building Joy and Laughter: Toddlers laugh multiple times more than adults, and they instinctively find ways to infuse humor into life. Hasan emphasizes the importance of laughter for stress relief and introduces concepts like laughter yoga and meditation. 6. Creating White Space: Inspired by toddlers and his own family practices, Hasan talks about the importance of unstructured time in our schedules. Whether it's going on a spontaneous adventure or simply relaxing without a set agenda, white space can be incredibly rejuvenating. Today's episode will inspire you to reconnect with your inner child, prioritize what truly matters, and adopt practices that toddlers excel at, like being present, setting boundaries, and living joyfully. Remember, it's the little moments of play, laughter, and connection that enrich our lives. Sleep Well, Take Risks, Squish the Peas is available now, wherever books are sold. The Brazilian treehopper is one strange-looking bug with antenna-like spiky balls on its head—but don't squish it! Scientists believe those odd spikes might help it scare off predators or even detect its surroundings, making it a fascinating creature to study. There are plenty of other bugs you shouldn't touch either, like assassin bugs, which can carry diseases, or brightly colored caterpillars, some of which can sting with venomous hairs. Even harmless-looking ladybugs can release a stinky liquid when threatened. Bugs often have unique roles in ecosystems, like pollinating plants or controlling pests, so it's best to leave them be. Instead of squishing, let these little critters go about their weird and wonderful lives!
Today on the Logan Blackman Show we recap Iowa's impressive 42-10 victory against Wisconsin, keeping the Heartland Trophy in Iowa City for yet another year. Within that game we compare how the offense has looked with Brenden Sullivan vs Cade McNamara while also going over Kaleb Johnson's continued dominance, scoring three more touchdowns in the win. With that we discuss who has a real shot at taking home the Heisman Trophy as well as taking part in a quiz where we try and name each of the finalists from the past 20-Heisman Trophy ceremonies (2004-2023). After looking at how both Iowa State and UNI did we switch gears and move over to the NFL where we recap the Bills 30-27 win against the Miami Dolphins, with kicker Tyler Bass drilling a 61-yard field goal for the win. We also take some time to discuss how some of the younger quarterbacks are doing, namely Anthony Richardson and Drake Maye, before finally going over each and every game from this past weekend. Enjoy!
Bundt, Carson, Jake and Parthy discuss Tyler Bass (2:00), takeaways from the win against Miami (13:00) and preview the matchup with the Colts (30:00).

Terrible twos, temper tantrums, and grocery store meltdowns are usually the first things that come to mind when people think of toddlers. But pediatric emergency medicine physician and researcher Dr. Hasan Merali has long thought toddlers are among the best people in our society and adults could do well to learn from them. These extraordinary youngsters can be impulsive, yes, but with this comes a remarkable ability to take risks and ask questions—two qualities that can help us enjoy life more. Toddlers act kindly toward strangers, are eager to work with others to solve problems, and demonstrate extraordinary dedication and perseverance. These are all traits that many of us aspire to have. In his new book, Sleep Well, Take Risks, Squish the Peas, Dr. Merali shows us the many ways in which acting like a toddler can help us improve both our personal and professional lives.Hasan Merali, MD, MPH, is an associate professor in the Department of Pediatrics, McMaster University and a pediatric emergency medicine physician at McMaster Children's Hospital in Hamilton, Ontario. He received his medical degree from Harvard Medical School and Master of Public Health degree from Johns Hopkins University. His research focuses on child injury prevention in low- and middle-income countries. He has published more than twenty-five peer-reviewed journal articles, and his work has been featured in The New York Times, BBC, Science, Medium, The Boston Globe, NBC, CBC, and Popular Science. To learn more, visit:https://caffestrategies.com/To learn more about Hasan, visit:https://hasanmerali.com/,https://www.linkedin.com/in/hasan-merali/,https://www.nytimes.com/2024/03/15/well/live/tips-happiness-mental-health-well-being.html,https://www.greatplacetowork.com/resources/blog/5-workplace-well-being-lessons-from-toddlers,https://medium.com/authority-magazine/author-hasan-meral-five-things-business-leaders-can-do-to-create-a-fantastic-work-culture-784ba24b415eListen to more episodes on Mission Matters:https://missionmatters.com/author/genein-letford/
