Jaxkie Starr, is a once-in-a-generation artist, with commanding poetry and up-tempo beats. This artist is undeniably entertaining. Able to share perspectives this artist can pull you into his world or very quickly join you in yours. An artist destined to touch the world. And he's the face, voice, and spirit of mylastX Born in Jackson, Mississippi, this Southern Hearted artist found his love for booming bass and dirty south grit in lyrics from artists like Outkast, Big KRIT, David Banner, and others. However, his life would be changed forever in third grade, and his music taste. Up north in a diverse town named Toledo, OH, he started to be introduced to the sounds of Rock, Pop, and Country. Bands like My Chemical Romance, Green Day, Linkin Park, and many others. This diverse introduction to different music heavily shaped little Jaxkie's sound to come in the future. He began writing music very briefly in the 9th grade and then stopped to pursue physical activities, much later in life (2020) after an injury he would find himself confined to a room incapable of walking, broken physically and emotionally this artist chose to start writing music again. In late 2021, after finally being able to walk again, he entered the studio for the first time, highly nervous, and in contrast, he recorded his first song “B.R.S.”, which stands for Black Rock Star. As an artist, he hopes to be an inspiration and beacon of hope to those that are lost, having dealt with mental health issues from the most painful heartbreak in his life. He hopes to be a voice for the voiceless, while so many go unheard. A young visionary and born leader pushes this artist to carry out his destiny. He hopes that through his pain, you will begin to learn that you are never alone, even in a world in which we feel we don't belong. As a musician, he wants to reunite listeners on a deeper level.

The Matches played catchy pop-punk in the 2000s, a time when catchy pop-punk bands could be top 40 pop stars. They worked their asses off, were courted by major labels, but never reached pop stardom. Though the band did mean a lot to a ton of people. They built community around their music and made sincere connections with their fans. And they have ska roots. The band formed in 1997 as The Locals. Inspired by Rancid, they originally played a blend of punk rock and ska-punk. They also looked up to fellow east bay band Link 80. And in fact, even went to high school with Link 80's original guitarist Matt Bettinelli-Olpin. The Locals even played Link 80s final show! Today we talk to The Matches' lead singer/guitarist Shawn Harris about the bands roots and dig into several stories throughout the band's career. We discuss their years building a scene at East Bay venue iMusicast, where bands like My Chemical Romance, Zebrahead and RX Bandits would play on tour. We also talk about The Matches first major tour--which was with Reel Big Fish. Shawn tells us about two mind-blowing shows from that tour. We also talk about why Gilman would never book the band, what is was like working with some famous producers (Tim Armstrong, John Feldmann), how The Locals ended up touring in Bosnia while they were still in high school, and Shawn talks a bit about his new life as a children's book cartoonist, book author and Dave Eggers collaborator. Shawn even tells us about the time he sneaked a peak into Dave's CD collection to see what kind of music he listened to.  And it was exactly the bands you think it was!  Support the show

Adapting the appendices of J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle-earth saga for a streaming series slated to run for 40 episodes is a much different exercise than paring down the writer's most celebrated work to feature-length, which is one reason, among many, that Prime Video's new THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE RINGS OF POWER feels like a different beast than director Peter Jackson's celebrated film trilogy that kicked off with 2001's THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING. But the two projects are naturally in conversation with each other by virtue of their source material and the expectations that come with it, which we attempt to parse as we share our early reactions to RINGS OF POWER's first three episodes with help from our returning special guest, Vulture critic Roxana Hadadi. Then we bring FELLOWSHIP back into the equation to consider how the two tales converge and diverge around Tolkien's mythology, how each handles this saga's big themes of good vs. evil, friendship, and cooperation, and how well their respective large-scale fantasy worlds function on both a narrative and visual level. Plus, Keith and Roxana dig briefly into the extended cuts of Jackson's films for Your Next Picture Show. This week Thursday frontman Geoff Rickly took a break from playing arenas with My Chemical Romance to talk to us about what it was like being a latchkey kid in the suburbs of New Jersey during the "Home Alone" era of parental supervision. Along the way we also discuss the time Geoff and Jonah's screamo band, United Nations, were sued by the actual United Nations; the fine line between art and absurdity; and Geoff's memories of his first-period chorus class. We also discuss how Jonah stayed at Geoff's childhood home nearly two decades ago for work and recall Vanessa's cherished childhood cat, Pumpkin. Finally. we play an inaugural round of a new segment called "CEO TAKEDOWN" where we look at three CEOs who have made headlines lately and determine which one needs to be taken down a notch. If you're a fan of "the system" you might not enjoy this podcast because this one is for the true punks and outcasts, not the Wall Street billionaires or corrupt cookie corporations who thrive on conceit and complacency. So sorry for the delay but we're finally back! Some have said that this episode from Season 19 would have been the perfect way to end the show, I guess they didn't realize it would still be going strong 15 years later with no signs of stopping. The episode places Homer in a precarious position where he doesn't remember a seemingly traumatic experience from the night before. As he tries to put the pieces back together he realizes what a lucky man he truly is. We were a bit torn over this one and go deep, not only in our thoughts of the episode as a whole, but how we would feel if this would have been the final episode of the show. Along the way Cori tells us about her chiropractor and the connection between Jack the Ripper and H.H. Holmes. Bryan fears that due to the time away that she might have developed a case of the yipps. He also announces some Season 34 news and Brenden is not happy about it. They then go on to debate the appeal of "newer" Simpsons episodes. Can an epiode that is over 10 years old be considered new? We increase our online impact with our first Instagram comment and reveal the results of the Ewan McGreggor mullet poll. We also discuss our favorite donuts, Brenden learns what nighttime minutes are and searnades us with a song from his 4th grade musical. Lastly Cori and Bryan discuss their My Chemical Romance experience with Lu. This was a good one and we hope that it was worth the wait! Want to reach out to us? Today's episode is an interview with Anthony Green! If you're unfamiliar, Anthony's been a lifer of post-hardcore and underground rock in general for over 20 years, having fronted the bands Circa Survive, Saosin, The Sound of Animals Fighting, and more, and he remains very busy. He's fresh off releasing his excellent new solo album Boom. Done., Circa Survive recently put out two great new EPs, Saosin have upcoming shows (and new music in the works!), and The Sound of Animals Fighting are plotting their return too. We talked about almost everything Anthony's been up to lately, and he also reflected on his early days, talked about some early influences, and looked at the way his own classic material has influenced new bands like SeeYouSpaceCowboy (who recently put out a Saosin cover). He also talked about writing lyrics that open up about mental health, and the ways even major artists like Kendrick Lamar are doing that, and he talked about the idea of achieving longevity as an artist, and discussed some other artists who have done so, like Deftones and (the just-broken-up) mewithoutYou.    And just days after we recorded this episode, the news broke that Anthony's fronting the new supergroup L.S. Dunes, which also features members of Thursday, My Chemical Romance, and Coheed & Cambria.

As well as the concepts behind some of her projects and the deep, intricate, and personal artistic worlds that she tries to build, share, and experience with her listeners.. We also ask her about the music she listens to and the artists that inspire her, and discuss how there are many different ways to listen to and experience music.. We talk about some of the creative obstacles she has faced recently, and how she has found new tools, and learned the ins-and-outs of recording and producing music on her own, which all together has helped propel her forward, and much, much more! We even have a discussion about Gerard Way of My Chemical Romance purchasing Marijuana. CJ and Spenny got up to some classic/traditional "shock jock" antics on last Friday's show, and that is kinda making them feel a little guilty. During a contest for a pair of My Chemical Romance tickets, CJ forced listeners to attempt to "convince Spence" to give them the prize. Spenny agreed when a young listener said she'd tattoo something on herself if she won. So, well, they gave her the tickets. Spenny argues that he was just doing what his boss asked of him (because I was, damn it!), but CJ still wants to shift blame. Who do you think is at fault?  Do you want to know what a person who has no knowledge on a topic but still gives their opinion is called? Well, we find that out (and more) on today's Did You Know.  And on today's People Behaving Badly, a local sportscaster uses a phrase that could easily fit into a sexier, more X-rated film production. When used normally, though, it doesn't sound that bad. Only someone with a perverted mind like CJ (or you) would even think that such phrasing could be used sexually. For shame. For shame! Check out what phrasing got such attention over the weekend on today's episode. Alright, bye.Support the show: https://www.101x.com/justmattandcj/See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
