Call in @ 718-664-6543!   SEE ALSO: Did You Know 1 In 3 Black Males Will Go To Prison In Their Lifetime? FACTS: Approximately 12%-13% of the American population is African-American, but they make up 40% of the almost 2.1 million male inmates in jail or prison (U.S. Department of Justice, 2009). Census data for 2000 of the number and race of all individuals incarcerated in the United States revealed a wide racial disproportion of the incarcerated population in each state: the proportion of blacks in prison populations exceeded the proportion among state residents in twenty states; the percent of blacks incarcerated was five times greater than the resident population. In an August 2013, Sentencing Project report on Racial Disparities in the United States Criminal Justice System, submitted to the United Nations, "one of every three black American males born today can expect to go to prison in his lifetime".

Topic: The Awakening Of African Americans Did you know that Abortion is the leading cause of death in the African American community? Accounting for more deaths in the last 25 years than all other causes combined . . . . Hispanics have now surpassed African Americans as the nation's largest minority group. Married African American women have a five times greater abortion rate than married Caucasian women. Some might expect this to lead to a greater percentage of African American women in need of post-abortion ministries. Yet certainly in our area we see very few African American women coming forward for help in dealing with their abortions. As a matter of fact, except for the high number of African American clients seen in crisis pregnancy centers, very few African Americans are involved in the pro-life movement in any way. Why? Join Carla B as she opens up the phone lines to speak with the African American community on why we don't offer our children…a “Right to Life”. Yet certainly in our area we see very few African American women coming forward for help in dealing with their abortions. As a matter of fact, except for the high number of African American clients seen in crisis pregnancy centers, very few African Americans are involved in the pro-life movement in any way. Why? Join Carla B as she opens up the phone lines to speak with the African American community on why we don’t offer our children…a “Right to Life”. This Week: What happened to Chavis Carter? It is a pregnant question, potentially even an explosive one. Carter died of a gunshot wound to the temple on the last Saturday in July, but the question about his death has only grown louder and more urgent since then. It is beginning to gather national attention. So we need an answer soon, either so that suspicions can be put to rest and some imperfect peace achieved, or so that suspicions can be validated and some equally imperfect justice sought. The problem is, there are two possible answers to the question, and neither one of them makes much sense. Call in to voice your thoughts and our opinions - 718-664-6543. Tonight's show - Don Adams opens the phone lines to discuss the legacy of the Civil Rights Movement The Legacy of the Civil Rights Movement, what have we done with it! The American civil rights movement nevertheless left a permanent mark on American society. The most overt forms of racial discrimination came to an end, and racial violence declined immeasurably. Today, African Americans can freely exercise their right to vote, and in communities where blacks were once barred from the polls, blacks are elected to public offices. Millions of blacks, too, have been lifted out of poverty as a result of the many economic opportunities created by the civil rights movement. Also important, the civil rights movement served as a model for the advancement of other minority groups, including women, the disabled, gays, Hispanics, and many others. Despite these gains, the civil rights movement fell short on many counts, and the fight for equality is far from over. Yet the black freedom struggle achieved something enduring: “It profoundly changed people’s attitudes and made the promise of America if not a reality, at least a possibility.” But here is the question, as Black Americans what have we done for our people since then?
