A few years ago, an editor asked Bloomberg investigative reporter Zeke Faux to take a look at the cryptocurrency Tether, a so-called stablecoin meant to precisely track the US dollar by backing it with real-world reserves. What followed was a tour through some of the most-colorful corners of the crypto world, from Mighty Ducks actor Brock Pierce's yacht to FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried's digs in the Bahamas and, finally, a hotbed for human trafficking in Cambodia.Faux joined the What Goes Up podcast to discuss his reporting, which is laid out in his new book Number Go Up: Inside Crypto's Wild Rise and Staggering Fall. “There's actually these whole office towers, floor after floor of people who've been lured from, say, like Vietnam, with the offer of a good job,” Faux says. “Then when they get there, they're trapped. They're told they can't leave. They're beaten. They get electric shocks, other forms of torture, and they're just given like 10 phones each and made to try to lure people into scams from around the world.”See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

A California law decriminalizing loitering went into effect in January. When Governor Gavin Newsom signed it last year, neither its supporters nor its opponents attempted to hide what it was really about: prostitution. Police previously could stop and question people they suspected of soliciting. This led to, advocates agreed, discrimination against so-called “transgendered adults.” What wasn't said out loud is that transgendered adults apparently present themselves in ways that lead them to be confused for prostitutes. According to a recent story in the Times of San Diego, the new law has led to an explosion in prostitution and sex trafficking in California. After all, the law says that police cannot try to identify prostitutes. It does not say that customers and traffickers can't. Often, laws that are put forward as “safety” measures for the LGBT community endanger other people. It's what happens when up is down, wrong is right, and all kinds of other really important words are redefined.

Our guest this week is musician and activist Tommy Green of Run Against Traffic! You may know Tommy from his time spent with bands xDeathstarx, Sleeping Giant, or his current project HolyName. He's been an important figure in the metal and hardcore scene for a long time, but his primary focus nowadays is Run Against Traffic, an organization that “exists to utilize the transformational power of running & community events to Rescue, Rehabilitate, and Restore the victims of human trafficking in our world.” Trafficking has become and unnecessarily controversial topic, as of late, but Tommy and his wife Krissi Green are doing great work helping vulnerable people get the support they need to get on their feet. Nate Danser Terra Koslowski and Josh Parise, Founder/Director or Ephesians 5 Ministries talk with Nate Danser, Vice President for Ministry Outreach at Pure Life Ministries about the connection of pornography addiction and the demand for human trafficking. Human trafficking is the second largest criminal industry in the world. In order to eradicate it, we must address the demand and issues contributing to the demand. Many people want to join the fight against human trafficking, but don't realize that their own secret sinful behaviors, might be part of creating the problem. Sexual sin is prevalent in the church, but those involved tend to struggle in secret believing the lie that it's a harmless small sin. Nothing could be further from the truth! It is a serious issue that destroys lives, families, churches, and victimizes others. Nate has served at Pure Life Ministries since 2009 after finding healing from habitual sexual sin in their residential program in Dry Ridge, KY. In addition to discipling other men through their recovery journeys, Nate oversees audio and video production and social media for Pure Life Ministries as well as hosting their weekly podcast, Purity of Life. http://eph5min.com http://www.purelifeministries.org http://www.damascusroadproject.org Purity of Life Podcast More Terra Koslowski posts Watch Stand Up For The Truth on YouTube !

Welcome to the Love Where You Are podcast! I am joined with Rachelle Starr. Rachelle Starr is the author of Outrageous Obedience: Answering God's Call to Shine in the Darkest Places which is about how she answered God's calling in her life to reach out to women in the adult entertainment industry and eventually how she started the Scarlet Hope ministry. In this episode, Rachelle shares a little bit of her story and together we explore the ways moms can help raise their children to love like how Jesus loves. There can be a tendency in the church to avoid the uncomfortable or dark places, like the adult entertainment industry, but as Rachelle points out those are the places that need God's light the most. Rachelle also shares some practical ways to make a difference, and how important it is to obey God's call to move from prayer to action. Also, it's never too late! Thank you for being here today. Now, let's dive into the conversation! You can connect with Rachelle through Instagram, and check out the Scarlet Hope website. Be sure to order her book so you can read her full story! FAVORITE TAKE-AWAYS: *Part of Rachelle's story is her parents and how they began a legacy in her by being faithful teachers of the Gospel. The work you are doing right now as a Christian mom can make a huge impact! Not just for your child, but for the work your child could do in the future. *Jesus asked did you feed me, did you clothe me? That is the question every Christian needs to ask themselves. It isn't what saves them but it is what shows the reflection of Christ. *Often when we are afraid, we run to what is comfortable. Being a Christian, however, means we don't have to live in fear! And, we are often called into the uncomfortable places. REMEMBER: -We need to foster a heart of empathy in our children and get them involved early on with helping others. Rachelle shares examples of how she does this with her kids but every family is different. -You are never too old to follow God's calling! Some people go decades without obeying the call and live to regret it, but even after years you can still answer His calling. It is never too late! -Even Jesus had twelve disciples! We can't do it alone. We need each other, teamwork, communities, and to disciple one another. Connect with Somer! We go there. Many times, sensitive and troubling subjects can be taboo for some Christ-followers. At Northside NOW, we believe we should engage and raise awareness of things that Jesus would care about. Human trafficking in West TN is one of those things. It's not just another issue or a political football. It is a reality in our area. In this episode, we speak with an expert who is daily engaged in efforts to combat human trafficking. Our goal is to start a conversation for some, and perhaps raise some more awareness for others, about the challenges we face in the West Tennessee community around human trafficking. Then, as an educated and aware community of Jesus followers, we should move forward as the “hands and feet” of Jesus to find practical and strategic ways to act and create positive change. After a month down at the border along with famed journalist Michael Yon for Operation Burning Edge, Ann Vandersteel comes on The Jeff Dornik Show to share what she saw. While many talk about illegal immigration as a problem that needs to be fixed, most don't understand what's really going on. That's why this episode is so important. It turns out that not only is our government not stopping illegal immigration, our tax dollars are directly and actively funding it. This means that our government is involved in funding the criminal behavior that has the potential to ultimately destroy our nation. Which then leads to a deeper conversation about all the different catastrophes our government was behind, including 9/11, the California fires a few years ago, covid and even the Maui fire. What do we do about it? Organize locally. Push back against the tyranny of our governmental leaders. It could be making your community a sanctuary for medical freedom. It could also be going after the bonds of public servants that are violating our rights. No matter what, we can no longer sit back and wait for someone else to save the day. Like so many other mostly imaginary topics, human trafficking is in the news again. Michael Hobbes—ever heard of him??—came by so Sarah could tell him about Sound of Freedom, a surprise hit summer movie that promises it can end child slavery, but only if you buy as many tickets as you can. Then, you can hear the episode we released on "human trafficking"—what it isn't, and what it is—back in 2019. Slam the Gavel welcomes back Amy Palacios. Amy last on the podcast Season 3, Episodes 147, 165 and 179 and Season 4, Episode13. She is a Mother of six children. In Amy's case there are two ex-husbands fighting in court with the SAME lawyer, Attorney Jay White to perpetuate 14 years of corruption. Her first ex-husband paid the second ex-husband $50,000.00 to be a false witness against her. Her case started in Mecklenburg County and has now moved to Cabarrus County, NC. Now both ex's along with an attorney, Jay White wants to extort monies from Amy or put her in jail days before Christmas....but that didn't happen. This is the most egregious crime committed against this mother, a Nurse Practitioner. Amy is was asking for Court Watchers on February 9th. I was there. How is Amy making it through this rough time in Family Court without giving up? She has a STRENGTH and FAITH in GOD that is maneuvering her through the labyrinth of the extortion via Family Court. Amy feels at peace. The MILLION DOLLAR QUESTION is: will Amy go to DEBTOR'S PRISON that WAS ABOLISHED IN 1833 and UNCONSTITUTIONAL tomorrow September 5th, 2023 for NON-SUPPORT. There is no due process in her case. No evidence has been taken into consideration. IS IT EVER? Amy has paid one of her ex-husbands over $33,000.00 in child support this year. Apparently Attorney Jay White feels entitled to $70,000.00 as well, expecting $800.00 per month until she reaches $70,000.00. Amy has ALREADY PAID HIM $2,500.00. What a DISGRACE, especially when Jay White is Head of DSS CHILD SUPPORT. DO YOU SEE THE ISSUE HERE? Judge Nate Knust has allowed testimony from one of her ex-husbands, while in an orange jumpsuit threatening Amy's life. AGAIN NO CONSEQUENCES. Technically, Amy should have sole-custody and the ex-husbands on visitation. Amy says that they call her crazy - SOUND FAMILIAR? YOU CAN'T HAVE IT BOTH WAYS AND CALL ANY PARENT CRAZY THEN EXPECT ANY TYPE OF CHILD SUPPORT OUT OF THEM. This is HUMAN TRAFFICKING at its FINEST. We also discussed Amy's story and contribution in my book, Raised By These Wolves, How Family And Federal Courts Are Failing Our Children. To Reach Amy Palacios: amypalacios79@gmail.comThis episode of Slam the Gavel is sponsored by CPSprotect Consulting Services. Welcome to the Love Where You Are podcast! I am joined with Amanda Florczykowski. Amanda Florczykowski is as unique as her last name. When a complete stranger pulled her daughter from her arms, Amanda penned an online caution read by an estimated 60 million, connecting Amanda with a victim of the very predator in the store that day.. Amanda has authored the #1 Amazon book, Unraveled: Mothering Fiercely in A World Full of Fears, is working on her second manuscript, and speaks on topics pertaining to the importance of family strength, memorable motherhood, child sex trafficking in America, the pornography epidemic, and faith-forward ideas all set to the backdrop of her salacious personal story. Lastly, Amanda is the creator of Able Moms International; local communities fostering capable, unshakeable, and memorable moms which will host its first collective gathering of 3,000 this coming Spring. She has also built Vigilant Families, a collaborative platform of experts and organizations who educate using age-appropriate material designated for audiences of 'children', 'youth', and 'adults'.. In this episode, Amanda shares the harrowing story of how she encountered the human trafficker in her grocery store, and together we discuss the balancing act of facing fear and pain in our world with the peace and joy which comes from God. Thank you for being here today. Now, let's dive into the conversation! You can connect with Amanda through Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, YouTube, and Twitter. You can also order her amazing book! FAVORITE TAKE-AWAYS: -On this side of heaven, we live on the intersection of harsh reality and God's peace. -There are so many things which could take our child away in the blink of an eye--but God is still good. -Eve was told she would experience pain in childbirth; she was cursed. But her curse was not just for the pain of birthing, but the pain of losing a child or watching them suffer. This curse, however, came with redemption: Christ. REMEMBER: -There is a very real threat of human trafficking, it's not something we can pretend doesn't exist in our own communities. -We each have our own threshhold for pain, whether its physical, emotional or spiritual. God is the one who knows our limits. We can't compare each other's pains to feel one is more or less than the other. We walk our own journeys. -Sometimes seeing the absolutely darkness and depravity of the Enemy helps us fully realize the goodness and brightness of God. Connect with Somer! According to a new filing from the USVI in their on going court battle with JP Morgan, the megabank processed more than 1 billion dollars in human trafficking payments for Jeffrey Epstein in more than 20k different transactions. The USVI claims that the only reason the bank ever reported these transactions to FinCen after Epstein's death, was to cover their own behinds. A trial date is set for October with both sides seemingly intent on colliding in Judge Rakoffs court. One of the most underreported facets of Human Trafficking is that many men and boys are also victimized. However, many of them never report it out of embarrassment or fear. There are little in the way of available resources for men and boys who are abused.
