Back in 2005, triggered by her own sexual abuse trauma, Blythe Hill learned about and began paying close attention to the issue of human trafficking. Even though she was overcome by a deep sense of urgency to help, she felt profoundly helpless. Blythe wasn't a lawyer, doctor, or social worker; her interests and talents were in fashion, trend analysis, and blogging. Blythe believed she had nothing much to offer to the fight against human trafficking. Then in 2009, Blythe challenged herself to wear a dress every day in December, and dubbed her campaign Dressember. Each year that has followed, more and more people have joined Blythe's one-person challenge, and today it's become an international movement. To date, Dressember campaigns have brought 490,000 victims to freedom, resulted in the conviction of 8,400 perpetrators, and raised over $ 20 million. Blythe calls herself a leader and strategist; we dubbed her a hero.

Play Episode Listen Later Nov 11, 2025 62:27

Submarine and A Roach — Nigeria's funniest podcast and the #1 comedy podcast in Nigeria — presents “Detty December is Human Trafficking,” hosted by TMT & Koj.Every December, Lagos becomes a conveyor belt of bodies, bottles, and bravado—an economy of daytime festivals that start too late for the sun, beach days that turn into boat-hopping on the Lagos Lagoon, and selfies in the red-light district otherwise known as Lagos traffic. It's our annual rite of passage: equal parts pilgrimage and punishment. The boys build a Detty December checklist: stuffy clubs with famously disorderly queues; Russian roulette with fake alcohol; concerts that begin at 3 a.m. and stages that collapse by 3 a.m.; and the not-so-subtle deployment of Nigerian police by private citizens—like Pokémon. There's wedding culture, too: the old era of joyful gate-crashing is fading under inflation, replaced by a dystopian hustle where IJGBs and culture tourists buy access to “authentic” Nigerian weddings. TMT's PSA is simple: if you purchase a ticket to crash a wedding because of an IG ad made on Canva, expect hands. Koj counters that the market will protect anyone willing to buy tables at weddings like it's Rhythm Unplugged.Climate anxiety hovers over the festivities: rain bleeding into November, potentially signaling higher heat levels in December, and a city with a track record of not solving environmental crises—before the conversation pivots to Sanwo-Olu at Lagos Fashion Week, modeling a “sustainable” aesthetic. You can't spell APC without AC, so APC will cool the globe. The hosts resurrect the word “chassis”—a car term upgraded into a compliment—to show how Nigerianisms morph in real time. Ultimately, like Detty December itself, language is just infrastructure for what we really want: to be seen, to be inside, to say, “I survived.”

The United Democratic Movement, UDM says human trafficking has become a national crisis in South Africa, with thousands of lives destroyed through sexual exploitation, forced labour and debt bondage. The party says the country's severe unemployment rate has created a recruitment tool for traffickers, who prey on desperate individuals seeking income or work abroad. Recent reports have exposed the scale of this crisis, with cases of human trafficking discovered in Johannesburg, Durban, and other parts of the country. Traffickers are using social media to lure victims with false promises of lucrative jobs, only to exploit them for sex or forced labour. On today's episode, we welcome the remarkable Kaia Ra, a beacon of resilience and spiritual insight. Kaia's journey is nothing short of extraordinary, as she navigated the harrowing experiences of elite human trafficking and emerged as a powerful channel for Ascended Masters. Her story is a testament to the human spirit's capacity for survival, transformation, and the relentless pursuit of truth and healing.Kaia's early life was marked by unimaginable challenges. Born into a military program for psychically gifted children, she was subjected to intense training and exploitation. "I believe that I'm alive by the grace of God," Kaia reflects, attributing her survival to her deep connection with Ascended Masters and the angelic orders. This divine connection not only kept her alive but also guided her through the darkest moments of her life.In her early twenties, Kaia began the arduous process of reclaiming her life.Despite being stalked and monitored by handlers from her past, she found solace and strength in yoga and meditation. "Something told me to get my butt into that yoga studio," she recalls. This practice became a lifeline, helping her heal from the deep trauma and regain control over her psychic gifts. Her dedication to self-healing culminated in a profound kundalini awakening at the age of 27, a transformative experience that solidified her spiritual path.Kaia's spiritual mission is embodied in her work with the Ascended Masters, particularly through her book, "The Sophia Code." This book, channeled from divine beings, offers a roadmap for humanity's awakening and empowerment. The Ascended Masters she channels, such as Mother Mary, Isis, and Quan Yin, bring forward teachings that are both ancient and profoundly relevant to today's spiritual seekers. "Enlightenment is simply the decision to look into the light that you are and to never look away," Green Tara shares in the book, emphasizing the simplicity yet profound commitment required for spiritual growth.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/next-level-soul-podcast-with-alex-ferrari--4858435/support.

Without even knowing it, many companies with extended supply chains may participating in human trafficking and forced labor. It exists around the world and even here in the United States where people are manipulated into modern forms of slavery. What can we do to protect our supply chains and company reputations, while more importantly helping these most vulnerable people? Transportation and logistics provider Ryder System, Inc. is doing its part to address the issue of human trafficking in the supply chain. Ryder is hosting a mobile exhibit on the issue at its Fort Worth, Texas, Transportation Management Center today. The event is for Ryder employees, local law enforcement, and public officials and it features the Freedom Drivers Project (FDP); this is a national mobile exhibit developed by the nonprofit group Truckers Against Trafficking (TAT), which is an alliance of trucking industry companies, law enforcement, and government agencies. We've heard a lot about cargo theft lately, and that's not surprising, given that there is so much freight moving around the country on any given day. Today we're talking about the growing controversy surrounding America's relationship with Israel, and the disturbing pattern of censorship that follows anyone who dares to even question it. Why are discussions about foreign influence and government transparency being shut down? Why are prominent voices silenced the moment they speak against powerful interests? We're asking the uncomfortable questions no one in the mainstream media wants to touch, from the suppression of speech to the "alliances" shaping U.S. policy, and praising those few, like Candace Owens, who refuse to back down in the pursuit of real justice and truth. This episode isn't about taking sides, it's about demanding honesty, accountability, and the freedom to ask hard questions without fear.

Although public awareness has increased in the last few years, there remains a general lack of knowledge regarding the extent that trafficking in persons pervades our modern world. Today in every country there are men, women and children trapped in jobs into which they were coerced or deceived and cannot leave. It is estimated that there are 25 million people worldwide subjected to sex work or forced labor. Since many of these victims will pass through medical facilities, it is imperative that health care personnel and missionaries learn the indicators and signs of human trafficking as well as stay up to date on the current trends. This presentation will look at recent case studies in modern day slavery including first hand survivor stories to be better equipped to take a reactive and proactive approach in combatting this horrendous crime. Antimony is used in other alloys as well, such as antifriction alloys, electric cable sheathing, and type metals for printing presses, which apparently are not completely extinct yet. Now, in Alaska, a company called Nova Minerals, with a grant from the War Department, has a contract to build an antimony refinery at Port MacKenzie, west of Anchorage, to process ore from the Estelle gold mine in the West Susitna Mineral District. With Pentagon backing and a goal to begin delivering Alaska-sourced antimony into U.S. supply chains by 2027, Nova Minerals Ltd. has secured a 42.8-acre site at Port MacKenzie west of Anchorage for a refinery that would process antimony concentrates from its Estelle project and other sources."This is a defining moment for Nova Minerals and for U.S. critical mineral independence," Nova Minerals CEO Christopher Gerteisen said upon securing land use permits for the industrial site about four miles from a deepwater port in Southcentral Alaska. The refinery, to be developed by Nova subsidiary Alaska Range Resources (ARR), is part of a strategy to leverage the very high-grade antimony mineralization found on the company's Estelle project about 100 miles west of Port MacKenzie to establish a domestic supply of this metalloid critical to a wide range of military and commercial applications. Antimony is also found in Idaho and Montana. But a majority of antimony production comes from countries that are not particularly friendly to the United States: China, Russia, and Tajikistan, which, between them, account for almost 80 percent of global supply. Financial investigators and compliance teams are increasingly “following the money” to disrupt trafficking networks rather than only relying on victim testimony. Financial Action Task Force (FATF) reports and NGO guidance show that traffickers leave traces in payments, payrolls, travel spending, prepaid cards, and layered transfers — patterns banks can detect with enhanced transaction monitoring and typology-driven red-flags. Public-interest groups and industry partnerships (for example Polaris and the Anti-Human-Trafficking Intelligence Initiative) are working with banks, card networks, and fintechs to turn those signals into actionable intelligence for law enforcement and victim services, using casework, data-sharing frameworks, and alerting pipelines so suspicious activity reports can lead to seizures or prosecutionsto contact me:bobbycapucci@protonnail.comBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-epstein-chronicles--5003294/support.

Real trafficking isn't a panel van at Walmart waiting for the perfect victim to whisk away — it's the slow burn of grooming. Predators pose as boyfriends, exploit trust, and use psychological manipulation over months.Privilege blinds us to real victims. That suburban soccer mom convinced she's a trafficking target? Statistically safer than she thinks. Actual victims tend to come from marginalized communities, LGBTQ+ youth, immigrants, and kids in foster care — people society already overlooks.Moral panic creates real harm. Trafficking hysteria spawned laws like SESTA/FOSTA that pushed sex work underground, making it more dangerous. When we chase fictional threats, we abandon real victims who need unsexy, long-term support — not rescue fantasies.Real solutions work through boring, beautiful basics. Want to actually help? Support organizations like Polaris Project that provide housing, mental health care, legal aid, and job training. One person at a time, one life rebuilt — that's how you dismantle trafficking networks for real.Connect with Jordan on Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube. On May 19th, 1977, 20-year-old Colleen Stan was hitchhiking from her home in Eugene, Oregon, to a friend's birthday party in the little Northern California town of Westwood. She was picked up in Red Bluff, California by a young couple, Cameron and Janice Hooker, who were out for a drive with their infant daughter. What followed was one of the most outrageous and lengthy periods of captivity I've ever heard of. Merch and more: www.badmagicproductions.com Timesuck Discord! https://discord.gg/tqzH89vWant to join the Cult of the Curious PrivateFacebook Group?
