The Pear Bears are at another one of those crossroads. They've travelled long and far to get to a new town. Will they choose to shop? Will they shop too much? Will they insult the locals with their insane drive for cheaper prices? Or, will they completely side-step the whole thing and find other stuff to do? Of course, the biggest question is: will our GM be able to keep up?Some Fruity Announcements: We have recorded our next backstory one-shot, a culinary adventure all about one of Morag's ancestors. We hope to get this edited soon and up on the Patreon in the next few months.Every 2 weeks, for the next 10 weeks, we are releasing on our Patreon the Official Cannon Wild Magic Surge Tables for Bodger, Morag, Velvagreen, Hoss and... Time is ticking to fill up, before the fuel tax returns. The Government's relief package ends tomorrow, meaning petrol prices will rise around 29 cents a litre including GST. It'll still be substantially less than the peaks seen after Russia's Ukraine invasion in March last year which saw oil prices skyrocket. Gull NZ General Manager, Dave Bodger told Kate Hawkesby sales have been up, rather than manic. He says yesterday's sales were about 50 percent higher than usual, and expects today will be much like a regular pre-Christmas special. Motorists have been enjoying less taxes on their fuel, but costs are set to go up next weekend. The fuel tax subsidy comes to an end on June 30th, with the price per litre expected to jump by 29 cents. Gull General Manager Dave Bodger expects heavy trade this week for all fuel companies- and hopes pumps won't run dry. "Remember, this is a petrol issue, there's no excise tax on diesel. Again, if you're a diesel customer, also fill up early. Unfortunately, you might be queuing behind petrol customers." LISTEN ABOVESee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The fuel tax subsidy extension has alleviated fears from the trucking sector. Prime Minister Chris Hipkins yesterday announced the fuel price subsidy, and half-priced public transport fares will be extended until the end of June. The extension, originally due to end in March, is estimated to cost $718 million. Prior to the extension, trucking groups said that had it ended in March, consumers would eventually end up having to pay more for freight costs. Gull general manager Dave Bodger told Mike Hosking those fears are unfortunately realistic. He says fuel is a major component of heavy transport, and they do need to pass fuel prices on. Few are surprised that many Kiwis want the fuel tax cut to be extended. A new poll states that more than two-thirds of respondents want the current fuel tax cut extended until annual inflation is below 3 per cent. The Government's forging ahead with a plan to force petrol retailers to blend biofuels into conventional fuel. It's expected to push petrol and diesel prices up by 5 to 10 cents a litre by 2025.Gull General Manager Dave Bodger says the company has put ten per cent ethanol into its premium petrol for nearly 15 years. He told Mike Hosking it means the internal combustion engine keeps running and we emit less carbon.“The thing is that biofuel's forever. Gull New Zealand Chief Executive Dave Bodger told Mike Hosking regardless of the tax, people are buying the same amount of petrol. He says they make savings elsewhere. “They just don't go to the movies, they trade down from a craft beer to a home brew et cetera, et cetera.” LISTEN ABOVESee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
In this episode, Chris and Mark find themselves balls-deep in mashed potato. Not literally – considering Mark is 6’7″, that’d be a lot of Smash…
This week's clips are from two years ago when someone wanted to give Bodger a chance, a man had an interesting idea for dinner and there was a storm-a-coming.
A Christmas bonus, a present under your tree, an unexpected guest popping round to cadge some mulled wine and a slice of cake… It's a special extra episode of DDTeach! Mark and Kieran round up this year's D-Oh Grand Prix 2021 II tournament and the finals show from Korakuen Hall. PLUS: clearing up confusing nomenclature, FIFA numbering, overachievers and underachievers, Big-Japan Pro Wrestling, Brain Claws, Barry Windham's rope-running, that damn vertical suplex, the dubious nature of Collega Pro, katakana, The Bodger, a metaphor for MAO, Pheromones, non-tournament highlights, uncooperative gaffer tape, great rookies, Hamaguchi Gym, five star DDT wackiness, sending for the man, chanko, a critique of Yumehito Imanari's camerawork and DDT's in general, Sendai Girls, unspeakable acts in the back of a Honda, autocorrect issues, Yuki Hino's belly button, Pirates of the Caribbean, wrestling Easter eggs, dog food, university wrestling clubs, a terrible pun, and the future for The Future.
Christmas is almost upon us (unless Bodger stuffs up the holidays rather than the turkey). The At The Flicks household is buzzing with that pre Xmas excitement. Graham is demanding we screen his Lethal Weapon box set (again), Neil continues to tell us tales of his golf round with Santa (who he said held a grudge and gave him no presents that year) and Jeff is hoping for a soapbox in his Christmas stocking! One thing we all agree with is the TV will be permanently on for the holidays. But what to watch? Luckily this podcast has the answer. We brought in TV expert Declan for this special Carry On Christmas Streaming episode. As much an annual treat for our listeners as Morecombe and Wise. Dec also tells us about some shows we have missed over the last few weeks which may well be worth catching up with following our turkey dinner excesses. This might even be the time to binge watch Downton Abbey (which Neil assures is how he used to live until he fell on hard times and had to stay with the likes of us). That will be after we get through some of Dec's recommendations. Indeed, to make sure he has everything covered, Dec has subscribed to Disney Plus. Is there no end to this man's sacrifices? If like Dec, you are a fan of Scandi dramas, you are in for a treat this Christmas. Also, and not giving too much away there is a Royal Scandal (what another one!), a wonderful remake of a Jules Verne classic, some fantastic documentaries, an M R James treat and some animated shorts which are destined to become classics. For more you will have to listen to the show to find out what has been recommended – that is our air of Christmas mystery. So if you have the same problem as we do in deciding what to watch, then check out Dec's recommendations. It may be a cliché, however we believe there his selection has something for everyone. Whatever you watch, have a great Christmas and may all your selections be wonderful.
This week we're joined by former NHL defenceman Doug Bodger, who played over 1000 games in the league. Doug has some fantastic stories. He and Russ talk about the long and winding road that led to their friendship and what was supposed to be their farewell NHL tour as teammates in LA. The boys talk about Mario Lemieux, Doug's old teammate in Pittsburgh. He and Mario were drafted by the Pens 7 picks apart in the 1984 NHL draft. Apparently Mario didn't make the best first impression on the franchise or his Penguins teammates. But that lasted about 5 seconds. Doug has some great stories about life on the road - karaoke, curfews, measuring belly buttons and a classic story about former Canucks head coach Marc Crawford at a Montreal steakhouse that signalled the end of Doug's career. Doug remembers golfing with Tiger...Tiger Williams, that is, and something called neighbourhood golf. And the two former Canucks also discuss this week's firing of head coach Travis Green and GM Jim Benning, Russ's former Leafs' teammate.
Petrol company Gull says its competitors are charging too much at the pump. The Automobile Association claims the industry's profit-gouging - as premium grade petrol inches towards three dollars a litre. Gull General Manager Dave Bodger told Heather du Plessis-Allan it's a complex business. “There's going to be some prices coming down in the next week but, long term, who knows.” He insists his prices aren't too high. In the course of researching the assassination of Veronica Guerin, I came across the mention of files stolen from the offices of the Director of Public Prosecution by Martin Cahill (The General) and his gang. John Traynor told reporter Paul Williams that one in particular, the file relating to the investigation of the death of Fr Niall Molloy, was used in a trade to get him out of charges for receiving stolen goods. Why in the world was this file so important? I had to know. And so this week, we have the bizarre tale of the unsolved murder of Father Niall Molloy. Fr Molloy was murdered in the home of his friends and business associates, the Flynn's, in the summer of July 1985, a day after the wedding of one of the daughters. No one has ever been convicted of his murder. Find the new RTE documentary on Fr Niall's death here (#notanad) ********* Join me at CrimeCon UK on September 25th & 26th 2021. A number of factors are believed to behind a recent rise in fuel prices.Gull general manager Dave Bodger says there's been an increase in the price of refined fuel out of Singapore - which has added about six cents a litre at the pump since the beginning of the month. He told Heather du Plessis-Allan sometimes the dollar works to offset the increase of the price of the barrel, but the dollar has devalued, which means another two cents at the pump."The big riser really since June: the Emissions Trading Scheme, the cost of carbon has gone up six dollars a tonne, a 16 per cent increase, and that's again another two cents a litre."LISTEN ABOVE

We talk specifically about spoons and chairs of which Dave is an exceptionally talented maker. We start off with some tool chat, then find out what a ‘Bodger’ is and how the term has been changed over the year. There is a fair amount of spoon carving chat, as well as a lot about chairs and Dave’s particular style.A theme we talk a lot on is the benefits gained by concentrating on something that uses your hands and brain. How it calms the brain and allows you to think. In this chat with chairmaker and spoon carver Dave Cockroft we discuss the simple hidden pleasures of working with your hands.
