With a joke every 10 seconds, "The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad!" is considered by many the Gold Standard when it comes to '80s comedies. The gags are nonstop and forever burned into our brains, but is this 30-year-old movie based on a single-season TV show still funny? That depends on whether you like jokes about loud urination, tigers mauling baseball players, ballistic missiles driving into fireworks shops, and full-body condoms. We do. Other topics in this episode of Shat The Movies include the carefree vibe of the '80s, anti-montage parody montages, Ricardo Montelban's cool, Priscilla Presley's performance, what it means to let a joke breathe, and O.J. We're kicking off 2022 with "Masters of the Universe," a movie that makes "Star Wars" look like irrefutable science and makes "Conan the Barbarian" feel Oscar-worthy. This one's a real battle between our love of campy schlock and the hard truth that big budgets don't always mean good cinema. Was the Sorceress perfection or pointless? Should the movie have focused on Earth or Eternia? Was Dolph Lundgren a god or a goober? Is this Courteney Cox in her prime, and how do you pronounce Frank Langella? One podcast to rule them all! It's the last episode of 2021 and the boys are walking their big, hairy, Hobbit feet back to December 19th, 2001 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Peter Jackson's epic trilogy opener, THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING. And throw on your fanciest wizard robe and polish your staff, because the boys are celebrating…themselves! Yes, it's the 2nd Annual Golden Sheila Awards! YOU SHALL NOT PASS up Episode 67 of Opening Weekend!“I wish it need not have happened in my time,” said Frodo.“So do I,” said Gandalf, “and so do all who live to see such times.  But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is which song shall win the Golden Sheila for Best Hand-Fart.”It's December 2001 and The Fellowship of the Ring are being terrorized by Saruman and pursued by ravenous orcs.Meanwhile, in December 2021, that same Fellowship are being terrorized by Omicron and reviewed by ravenous dorks! While Sam and Frodo were forming a Fellowship in Middle Earth, Dan and Jason were forming their own Fellowship in Middle Village (Well, Astoria, but close enough). Jason wanted to invite Merry and Pippin but Dan said “Over my dead man-flesh!”Meanwhile, Fred was off in Cleveland playing the great Elvish composer, “Isengard Balrog.” (Who ended up changing his name to "Irving Berlin", because it sounded less Jewish) If you thought Gandalf perishing in the Mines of Moria was depressing, wait until ya hear the one about Fred's dead grandma! GIMLI some more of that, ‘miright?!?!And moving from self-indulgent melodrama to self-indulgent mega-nostalgia, the boys take some time to pat themselves on the back for a year well done and hand out the 2nd Annual Golden Sheila Awards! You'll be GaLADriel you tuned into Episode 67!

Meryl Meisler was born 1951 in the South Bronx and raised in North Massapequa, Long Island, NY. Meryl began photographing herself, family, and friends while enrolled in a photography class taught by Cavalliere Ketchum at The University of Wisconsin, Madison. In 1975, Meryl returned to New York City and studied with Lisette Model, photographing her hometown and the city around her. After working as a freelance illustrator by day, Meryl frequented and photographed the infamous New York Discos. Meisler began releasing large bodies of previously unseen work. Meryl's first monograph, A Tale of Two Cities: Disco Era Bushwick (Bizarre, 2014), received international acclaim. The book juxtaposes her zenith of disco photos with images of the burned-out yet beautiful neighborhood of Bushwick, Brooklyn in the 1980s.  Her latest monograph, New York PARADISE LOST Bushwick Era Disco (Parallel Pictures Press 2021). Meryl lives and works in New York City and Woodstock, NY, continuing the photographic memoir she began in 1973 – a uniquely American story, sweet and sassy with a pinch of mystery.
