Bookwaves/Artwaves is produced and hosted by Richard Wolinsky. Links to assorted local theater & book venues Jack Arnold (1916-1992). Film Director (“Creature from the Black Lagoon” et al), 1980 Jack Arnold, who died at the age of 75 in 1992, was the 1950s master of the science fiction film. Among the films he directed were It Came From Outer Space, The Creature from the Black Lagoon, Revenge of the Creature, Tarantula, and The Incredible Shrinking Man. The Probabilities crew – Richard A. Lupoff, Lawrence Davidson and Richard Wolinsky – received a small stipend from a science fiction convention and flew to Los Angeles to interview Jack Arnold in his office at Universal Studios. The interview is undated but was recorded in around 1980, give or take a year. It Came from Outer Space, along with two film noirs, were released in 1953, Creature from the Black Lagoon in 1954 and Revenge of the Creature in 1955. The first western, The Man from Bitter Ridge along with Tarantula and his work on This Island Earth also came from 1955. The rest of the westerns, along with The Incredible Shrinking Man and the Peter Sellers classic The Mouse That Roared, came between 1956 and 1959. After that, he directed a couple more A pictures, as he called them, but his primary work moved to television, and from then until his retirement in 1984, he was constantly working on projects for the small screen, interspersed with the occasional film. Remastered and re-edited by Richard Wolinsky in July 2021. Why I'm Optimistic About The Music Industry Times are tough in the music industry—and there's no point pretending otherwise. Streaming payouts are shrinking, costs are rising, the economy is squeezing fans, and AI plus the distraction economy are reshaping how people engage with music. In this episode of Other Record Labels, I acknowledge the very real challenges indie labels and musicians are facing right now—and then I make the case for optimism. PRESENTED BY LANDR - http://landr.com/otherrecordlabels I share five reasons why, despite everything working against us, I genuinely believe the future still holds opportunity for independent artists and labels. From the quiet resurgence of physical media, to the power of human connection, to why your unique label path may actually be the solution—not the problem—this episode is about perspective, resilience, and rebellion. If you've been feeling discouraged, burned out, or close to giving up, this conversation is for you. Because even when it doesn't make sense, we're still here—and that matters. Before diving in, they react to the recent trailers for ‘The Odyssey' and ‘Avengers: Doomsday' and quickly discuss ‘Zootopia 2' and ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash' (1:38). Then, they discuss Paul Feig's ‘The Housemaid,' starring Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried, which they found disappointing and prompts a discussion about what type of movies are being made for women in 2025 (9:09). Next, they talk through ‘Anaconda,' starring Jack Black, which they describe as a cynical, depressing exercise in IP franchise filmmaking (38:37). Finally, they briefly touch on ‘Song Sung Blue,' a musical drama about a Neil Diamond tribute band starring Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson (50:00), before director Craig Brewer joins Sean to break down how his filmmaking career started, explain why music plays such a profound role in his work, and tell a fascinating story about the lengthy process behind casting Hudson (1:01:35). Welcome back, friend! Today's episode is one so many families need right now because almost everyone is feeling the squeeze. Groceries are higher. Utilities creep up. Kids' activities cost more. Life just feels expensive. But here's the good news Most families have hidden pockets of savings they don't even realize are there. And once you shine a light on them, you start seeing how much freedom is possible Food is the biggest leak in the average family's budget, especially for busy moms who feel like they're just trying to survive dinner. But imagine cooking for just a couple of hours one day and eating homemade meals all week. The grocery bill drops. Takeout stops & the stress around dinner disappears. This is one of the easiest places to save hundreds every month without clipping coupons or living on noodles. Most people don't realize a quick stop at the store is actually one of the biggest budget drains. You go in for milk…You come out with snacks, a candle, and a seasonal display you didn't need. Those tiny $25–$40 trips add up fast. When you simplify and stick to one grocery trip with a pickup order? Your spending drops without you even trying. You would be shocked how many families are paying for things they don't even remember signing up for. Streaming services, apps, memberships, & free trials that weren't so free. A quick audit usually saves $50–$150 a month instantly. This isn't deprivation, this is stewardship. It's choosing what actually serves your home and letting go of the rest. Convenience is the silent budget killer. But when you create a few simple systems like having meals prepped or keeping a stocked pantry, convenience stops being something you buy…and starts being something you build. A cluttered home makes you forget what you already have. So you buy duplicates. You lose items. You repurchase things that were sitting in a cabinet the whole time. When you simplify your home, even a little, you automatically spend less. Because you know exactly what you have and what you don't. Less chaos equals less cash slipping through your fingers. Most moms think saving money means sacrificing everything fun. But the real heart behind saving is this: It's about living more intentionally so you can enjoy more of your life. When you spend with purpose & not panic, you stop feeling guilty… and start feeling free. And that's exactly what I want for you as we head into a brand-new year. Friend, if you're listening to this and thinking, I want to get ahead, but I don't even know where to start…You're not alone. That's why I created my FREE No Spend January Challenge we have been doing for 4 years In this challenge, you'll learn how to: stop impulse spending, use what you already have, simplify meals so you're not running to the store, cut hidden expenses without feeling deprived, create financial peace in your home & start the year with purpose instead of pressure You're not doing this alone. I'll walk with you every single step. If you want to join us, here is the link. https://stan.store/ClaimingSimplicity Blessings ~ Monica

professorjrod@gmail.comExplore how Napster revolutionized technology education by changing the way we interact with digital files and access information. This episode delves into the transformation from physical media to digital packets, illustrating key moments that reshaped internet culture and technology. Whether you're preparing for your CompTIA exam or interested in IT skills development, understanding these technological shifts provides valuable context for tech exam prep and study group discussions. Join us as we unpack the history behind Napster and its lasting influence on technology education and digital innovation. We walk through Metallica's landmark lawsuit and the legal logic that treated visibility as control, then trace the diaspora that followed: LimeWire's messy resilience, Kazaa's global sprawl, and BitTorrent's protocol-level genius that made sharing intrinsic. Along the way, we examine what labels missed, what users learned, and why lawsuits against platforms morphed into letters to dorm rooms. Hardware and storefronts offered a ceasefire—hello iPod and ninety-nine-cent downloads—but ownership still clashed with a new habit shaped by search, speed, and scale.Streaming became the only model that matched the lesson users had already internalized: music should be searchable, immediate, and everywhere. That shift didn't stop at songs. Photos, documents, movies, and apps followed, because remote access began to feel natural. We talk candidly about artist trade-offs—reach versus leverage, algorithms versus programmers—and the way architecture keeps deciding outcomes. If you care about the history of technology, platform liability, or the future of creative work, this story connects the dots from a dorm room index to the blue play button on your phone. If this deep dive gave you a new lens on music and tech, follow the show, share it with a friend who remembers the dial-up hiss, and leave a quick review so others can find us. Tonight on TV Party Tonight, Jesse and I take a full look back at Legit, the short-lived but deeply personal sitcom created by and starring Jim Jefferies. Born out of a real stand-up story about helping a friend with muscular dystrophy experience adult independence, Legit begins as a blunt, profane experiment in empathy and gradually expands into a messy, humane portrait of a found family: Jim, Billy, and Steve. We break down the show's development, casting choices (including the decision to cast DJ Qualls as Billy), how Season 2 broadened the scope beyond disability narratives, and why the move from FX to FXX ultimately sealed its fate. We also talk about where Legit fits in Jefferies' career arc—what it clarified about his voice, what it cost him, and why it remains the project he's said he's most proud of, despite its early cancellation.Disclaimer: The following may contain offensive language, adult humor, and/or content that some viewers may find offensive – The views and opinions expressed by any one speaker does not explicitly or necessarily reflect or represent those of Mark Radulich or W2M Network.Mark Radulich and his wacky podcast on all the things:https://linktr.ee/markkind76alsohttps://www.teepublic.com/user/radulich-in-broadcasting-networkFB Messenger: Mark Radulich LCSWTiktok: @markradulichtwitter: @MarkRadulichInstagram: markkind76RIBN Album Playlist: https://suno.com/playlist/91d704c9-d1ea-45a0-9ffe-5069497bad59
