Zone modelling is a technique introduced in 1970's and 80's that has changed fire science. In my personal opinion, along with oxygen calorimetry and the development of FDS it may have been the most impactful tool of fire science. This is why I think its shameful it does not receive the same recognition today. With Colleen we go deep into the zone models, discussing the tool itself and the ways to adapt it to current needs. You will learn how zone models evolved, and what makes them really useful in the modern world. It is a technology of the past, but certainly one with a bright future. *** A mandatory download *** https://www.branz.co.nz/fire-safety-design/b-risk/This is the zone model largely developed by Colleen, absolutely worth your time to try it out!--- LinkedIn discussion thread ---https://www.linkedin.com/feed/update/urn:li:activity:6818412552368771072--- Useful links ---https://fireresearchgroup.com/ FRG is the company that Colleen works for, and it is a bunch of great experts solving issues of modern fire science. The guys open the show with updates on their shooting schedules and how the shutdown has continued to affect their work as well as the work of fellow videographers. This leads to discussion about the recent popularity of Zoom calls and what Michael Cera has been up to lately. The conversation turns to Dustin's current editing backlog, his dismay with other videographer's footage, and new kind of motivational poster is born. Before wrapping, the guys hit on CFast cards, Pornhub, and their earliest childhood memories regarding visual arts. Thank you for listening! We love you for it! Questions or comments? Late last year, I upgraded the main camera I use for filming these videos to the Canon C200. A cinema camera, which means one built specifically for shooting video. Not a still camera that also shoots video. There were a bunch of reasons for this, which I can get into in another video if you’re interested, but the biggest for me was the ability to run XLR mics straight into the camera instead of having to use intermediary interfaces and recorders, and the ability to get a picture that looks pretty close to an Arri system but for like one tenth the price. At first, I just stuck with my usual workflow. I’m a big believer in first learn walk, then learn fly. So, I recorded standard MP4 to an SD card, color corrected it, and that was pretty much it. But, one of the best things about the C200 is that it can shoot in RAW. Which, just like RAW in photography, captures a ton more information so you not only get a better quality recording, you preserve a ton more options for color correction and grading. So, I talked to a ton of experts, I watched a ton of videos, and got ready to make the switch and start recording RAW to CFast cards. But, a lot of the workflows I’d heard and found involved Adobe Premiere or, even more frequently, DaVinci Resolve and I… I just don’t like either of their interfaces. I use, like and really wanted to stay inside Final Cut Pro X. So, I adapted, I tested, I tweaked, I iterated, and I shared a lot of work in progress on Twitter and Insta, where a lot of you were kind of enough to give me feedback. And also ask a lot of questions about the workflow I was putting together. Questions I couldn’t really answer until I had something I felt was at least a little consistent. Until now. In this episode I cover: 1) The return of Rocko's Modern Life and how I met the B-52's while working as a camera operator intern at a local Atlanta TV station. 2) Canon EOS 5D Mark IV rumors are heating up. I talk about the latest information from CanonRumors.com. It looks like the 5D Mark IV will support 4K video, but it does not come with a CFAST card slot. In a few days - perhaps as early as August 25, 2016 - we likely all will have the facts, but will it make a difference? 3) There's a free sound library available that may be of interest to digital media creatives. It's a royalty free library from Red Sky Lullaby. 4) If you are a Final Cut Pro X user, I tell you how you can win a free pass for the 2016 FCPX Creative Summit. And I also tell you about an awesome FCP X resource: fcp.co. 5) Kris Simmons - The Video Business Success Coach - returns to motivate you to put your biz into high gear. Ron Dawson of Radio Film School left us a voice mail with a great question about a topic we did not address in our series “Am I getting paid enough?” Stay tune to hear Ron’s question and Kris Simmons answer to it. Source: Photography Second Edition By Bruce Warren -- Tech Briefs Canon announces the update to their flagship DSLR: the new EOS-1D X Mark II. The 1D X Mark II features an increase in resolution to 20 megapixels. Although the native ISO stays the same at 100-51,200, the expanded range ups to 409,600. The Mark II features new, dual Digic 6+ processors that allow for processing 14 raw or JPEG frames per second (and up to 16 in Live View). Helping these high frame rates is a shutter with carbon fiber blades that is built to withstand 400,000 exposures. These processors put out 4K video clips at 60 frames per second until you fill up your card. Wow. This capability is due to the CFast 2.0 card slot in the Mark II. Shooting at full speed, the buffer will allow recording of up to 170 raw frames on CFast 2.0 cards or 73 frames on a CF card. There is also continuous autofocus while shooting stills and video, regardless of the frame rate. A 360,000-pixel metering sensor helps with subject recognition and tracking across the 61-point High Density Reticular AF II system with 41 cross-type points. Canon's new in-camera Digital Lens Optimizer technology, allows for in-body lens aberration and diffraction correction for every shot, saving you one more step in post. The 1D X Mark II is weather sealed, even at its connection points. And incase you're into this, the GPS functionality is built-in, and includes an auto time-syncing feature that syncs with Universal Time Code via satellites. The EOS-1D X Mark II will be available for $5,999 and ships in April.
