El Paso, TX airspace shutdown has drawn attention due to no explanation given. This week Seth Paridon and Jon Parshall take a fascinating look at some Japanese archival footage from 1942 (and a bit from 43). The guys look at footage, that for the most part, they have never seen before. There are some really amazing shots of Japanese aircraft including, Jakes and Mavis', as well as some glorious shots of Japanese heavy cruisers like Tone, Haguro, and the Mogami class, as well as carriers Junyo and Zuiho at sea. Japanese camermen take us from Indonesia, Burma, and Rabaul to Tulagi, and Guadalcanal. Previously unseen footage of the Battle of Santa Cruz through Japanese eyes is incredibly cool, shots showing Enterprise and South Dakota through a Japanese camera lens on October 26, 1942 are a highlight. Incredibly cool stuff. Episode 310 is the twenty-second episode on  the Tippit  murder and  very well may be our final  episode of  this  mini-series. Of all the mini-series we have produced , this one may have been the most illuminating when it comes to solving the crime...of who killed President John F. Kennedy.  In this final episode on Tippit,  we explore, one more layer down in the depths of Oak Cliff, the chance that there was a second police car there on the scene...at the moment that Tippit was murdered. That the event  at 10th and Patton was more than random and  likely  involved more than one officer.  We do that today through the eyes and ears of Lad Holan, the son of Doris Holan. Both were present as witnesses  that day in Dallas and both had material roles as witnesses in this tragic event. Lad is interviewed by Researcher Gavan McMahon about his recollections on that day and the recollections of his mother Doris Holan who clearly saw the second vehicle. Lad addresses a missing piece of film footage that likely was his mother. Lad was shown that film footage by researcher Dale Meyers. Footage that Lad believes contained portions showing his mother speaking and describing the car in the driveway and alley way BEHIND the house on 10th street. A vantage point that she could clearly see from the second floor window of her apartment at 113 1/2 Patton Avenue.... but the footage has disappeared. Meyers has, apparently,  never made it publicly available for scrutiny.So, what are we to believe?  This isn't just a discrepancy; it's a profound contradiction at the heart of the case. A contradiction that suggests  a much deeper plot that has been slightly more revealed on a blood-stained street in Oak Cliff.  It's, once again, up to you, the jury...to sort this all out...Yes…there is a grave possibility that the true "Rosetta Stone" of November 22nd, 1963, might just lie in the quiet Dallas suburb of Oak Cliff, waiting for us to finally put the pieces together. In this short podcast episode, Bryan dives a bit into equipment sizing rules of thumb and why square footage does NOT equal tonnage in today's world. Many rules of thumb exist in the industry, and one is a load calculation rule stating that you can size the HVAC for a house at 500 square feet per ton.  Old houses are leaky and poorly insulated compared to new homes, which results in large energy loads but allows the homes to dry themselves out, as moisture could leak out before it could cause trouble indoors. Large loads and leaky envelopes made 500-600 square feet per ton a sensible rule.  Homes built within the last few decades have a lot more insulation and are tighter, and they have smaller sensible heat loads. However, they're a lot more moisture-prone, especially when moisture can't escape via proper ventilation paths. The 500 square-foot rule of thumb overshoots the latent capacity and leads to short cycling due to oversized equipment. Enter ACCA Manual J, which presents a load calculation method that is very good, but it has barriers to entry; it is very rigorous, has a learning curve, and can be a hassle. One thing is clear, though: load management is key, especially latent load management. At this time, we measure energy efficiency in terms of metrics like SEER, but the future is pointing to peak load management as the answer: getting the right power draw at the right moments instead of high general efficiency. Modernizing hot deck-cold deck systems with steady-state, constantly running systems might be the way to go, especially if we utilize energy storage and modern variable-speed technologies. The new rule of thumb is to think like a building scientist and apply new tools to concepts that have stood the test of time.
