It's those Family Ties that can really choke the life out of you...In theatres tomorrow June 12th for a limited run before it hits VOD (and eventually Shudder), we get to look at a beautifully bent piece of cinema from one of Canada's up & coming storytellers who isn't afraid to get a little bit bent. It's time for 'The Voices of Our Mother'.When a family matriarch falls seriously ill, relatives gather and discover their shared ancestral ties bind them in unexpected ways. From Writer/Director Mark O'Brien who you might remember as an actor from memorable turns in films like 'Arrival' and 'Nuremberg' and his debut feature 'The Righteous' gives us a horror laden family drama that is steeped in some of the classics from the past.We talked about his inspirations, working with a Canadian icon like Sheila McCarthy, his appreciation for his collaborators but locally and internationally and we got a little 'Basic; about our love of movies on physical media and so very much more.'The Voices of Our Mother' is in theatres now and on VOD platforms on June 19th

It's Disclosure Day week! Yes, film buffs, that means it's time for a new Steven Spielberg film—and not just a new Spielberg, but a new Spielberg sci-fi. We can't wait to see the iconic director return to the genre he defined, and to hear Mark's verdict. Should we believe the hype that it's his best film in decades? As well as Mark's review, we'll hear Simon's interview with two of its stars, Emily Blunt and Colman Domingo. They talk Spielbergian on-set insights, space aliens, and, erm… Percy Pigs. Plus, yet more speculation as to whether Jaws is or is not about a shark. On top of that we've got two more reviews of two new movies who dared to release alongside this box office whopper. First up, quirky Scottish tragicomedy The Fall of Sir Douglas Weatherford, about a man desperate to keep his small town's true history alive when a Game-of-Thrones-style production circus arrives and threatens to redefine it. And it's reissue time for Paul Thomas Anderson's Boogie Nights, scrubbed up in glorious 4K, and back on the big screen to celebrate. Make a Logo on Fiverr Cloner Alliance Steps Up the UHD Pro 4K The Cloner Alliance UHD Pro 4K is a standalone video capture and recording box built for creators, gamers, and anyone who needs a simple way to record HDMI video without turning the setup into a complicated production rig. After looking at the previous Cloner Alliance Pro 4K model, this newer UHD Pro 4K brings some useful upgrades, including USB-C, microSD support, USB 3.0, and more flexible recording options. This is designed for pro video workflows, game capture, screenshots, camera recording, and even scheduled recording. It can capture in 4K, supports HDMI pass-through, and records to external storage including flash drives, microSD cards, and larger hard drives. What's in the Box? Inside the box, Cloner Alliance keeps things straightforward. You get the UHD Pro 4K unit, instruction materials, a remote control, HDMI cable, power adapter, and a USB-C to USB-A cable. A Welcome USB-C Upgrade One of the first noticeable changes is the move from micro USB to USB-C. That makes the UHD Pro 4K feel more modern and more useful in current creator setups. The device also includes USB 3.0 support, which matters when you are recording larger video files at higher bitrates. Ports and Controls On the top of the unit, you get physical controls for pause, snapshot, record, and stop. There are also audio inputs, including mic, aux, and line-in options. On the side, the unit includes microSD/TF card support, USB-C, and USB-A connectivity. On the back, you get the power button, 12V power input, HDMI input, and HDMI output for pass-through monitoring. Recording Options for Video Capture The Cloner Alliance UHD Pro 4K can record in MP4 or TS file formats. Resolution options include 4K, 1080p, or auto mode. For many users, auto mode will probably be the easiest choice, but having manual resolution control is useful when you need to lock the output to a specific format. H.264 and H.265 Recording The UHD Pro 4K supports both H.264 AVC and H.265 HEVC recording. That gives users some flexibility depending on whether they want broader compatibility or more efficient compression. The video bitrate can go up to 50 Mbps, which is a nice option for higher-quality captures. Just remember that a higher bitrate also means larger files, and your storage device needs to be fast enough to keep up. Audio Settings Audio options include HDMI audio, mic input, and aux input. You can adjust mic volume, aux volume, and HDMI output volume. The audio bitrate can be set up to 320 Kbps for better sound quality. That said, this is not a multitrack audio recorder. If you combine audio sources into the unit, they are recorded together. For serious productions, it is still better to manage audio separately when possible. Storage: Flash Drive, microSD, or Hard Drive The UHD Pro 4K supports recording to multiple storage types. You can use microSD/TF cards, USB flash drives, and larger external hard drives. The device can also test writing speed, which is useful before recording at higher bitrates. File Size and Loop Recording Recording file size options include unlimited, 4GB, 16GB, or two-hour segments. This lets you decide how the device breaks up long recordings. There is also loop recording, which makes the UHD Pro 4K useful beyond gaming and creator content. You could use it with a camera for basic security-style recording, where older files are overwritten once storage fills up. HDMI Pass-Through and Latency One of the biggest questions with any video capture device is latency. The UHD Pro 4K includes HDMI pass-through so you can send video to a monitor while recording. Better Than the Previous Model Compared with the earlier Cloner Alliance Pro 4K, the latency on the UHD Pro 4K appears improved. The older model had more noticeable delay, while this new version feels closer to the 50 to 100 millisecond range during pass-through testing. That is still not zero latency. For casual gameplay, recording, screenshots, or camera capture, it may be fine. For competitive gaming, you may still want to put a splitter before the Cloner Alliance box and monitor directly from the source. On-Screen Menus and Remote Control The UHD Pro 4K includes a remote for navigating system settings, recording settings, audio settings, scheduling, playback, and storage options. Settings You Can Adjust The system menu includes time settings, time zone, HDMI output resolution, HDMI output scale, screensaver, language, factory reset, and firmware information. The recording menu lets you choose format, resolution, file size, codec, bitrate, audio bitrate, loop recording, and watermark options. Remote Control Experience The remote works without needing to be aimed perfectly at the unit, which is a plus. However, it can be a little touch-and-go at times, occasionally needing more than one button press. Scheduling and Standalone Recording A big advantage of the Cloner Alliance UHD Pro 4K is that it does not always need a computer to record. You can connect your source, attach storage, and record directly from the unit. Scheduled Recording The device also includes scheduled recording options. That could be useful for capturing a camera feed, recording a recurring video source, or setting up a simple unattended recording station. Using the UHD Pro 4K With a Computer The UHD Pro 4K can also connect to a PC using the Cloner Alliance helper software. Once connected, you can preview the video feed, record to the computer, schedule recordings, choose capture devices, and configure folders for video and photo storage. Live Video and Virtual Camera Use The software also includes options for live broadcasting and virtual camera use. That means you can bring the Cloner Alliance feed into apps such as OBS, vMix, or other streaming software. The computer preview does introduce more latency than the HDMI pass-through monitor, so it is best used for setup, checking framing, or recording control — not as your main real-time display. Video Screenshots and Pro Video Uses The UHD Pro 4K is not just for recording full videos. The snapshot button makes it useful for grabbing video screenshots, especially from gameplay, cameras, or HDMI-based devices. Good for Creators and Reviewers For content creators, this can be a useful box to keep nearby. It can capture from a camera, record a gameplay feed, document a device's HDMI output, or act as a simple single-source recorder when you need something fast. Pros and Cons Pros The Cloner Alliance UHD Pro 4K is easy to set up, works as a standalone recorder, supports 4K capture, includes HDMI pass-through, offers USB-C and USB 3.0, supports higher bitrate recording, and works with the same Cloner Alliance software ecosystem. Cons There is still some latency, especially when using the computer preview. The remote can occasionally require extra button presses. Also, while the audio input options are useful, this is not a replacement for a dedicated multitrack audio workflow. Final Thoughts on the Cloner Alliance UHD Pro 4K The Cloner Alliance UHD Pro 4K is a solid upgrade over the previous model. The move to USB-C, the addition of microSD support, better storage flexibility, and improved latency make it a more capable video capture device for creators, gamers, and anyone working with HDMI video. It is easy to set up, flexible enough for standalone recording or computer-based capture, and useful for everything from pro video workflows to video screenshots. If you need a simple HDMI video capture and recording box that can work without a full computer setup, the UHD Pro 4K is worth a look. Harry Warden is here to see you! My Bloody Valentine (1981) My Bloody Valentine turns 45 years old this year. The director, George Mihalka, was the guest of honor at this year’s Portland Horror Film Festival. He was kind enough to speak with the Scariest Things, who are huge fans of the film. Lost cutting room footage was recently found when the producer was absorbed by Lionsgate, allowing some of the missing gory effects to be brought back into the movie. So, it’s time to revisit this movie and talk to the creator about why it remains important today. In my nine years of managing the Scariest Things, I have been honored to meet some of the best people in the horror movie industry. Mick Garris, David Dastmalchian, Darren Lyn Bousman, Ben Leonberg, Aaron Moorhead, Carter Smith, and Ted Geoghegan are all people whom I would consider friends of the Scariest Things, having met and interviewed them. But, after meeting George Mihalka, director of My Bloody Valentine (1981), I can firmly say that he is my favorite person in the genre. Talking with George felt like story time. He was warm and generous, and was eager to tell us all about how he did his movie. George is an outlier, as far as horror directors go. He produced a singular, momentous horror film and then had a long directorial career outside of the genre. His experiences with Jack Valenti and the MPAA, who censored his film, were a “death by a thousand cuts” quite literally. It may have scared him off from continuing as a horror specialist, even though he had the gift. Sadly, some of the most creative kills in the movie got edited to the point of bloodlessness. He likes to say that it became “My Anemic Valentine”. And that, “There is more blood in the title than there is in the movie.” Frame-by-frame slicing and dicing. The film became the fall-guy film for the industry as a reaction to random violence following John Lennon’s assassination. Somebody would have to be made an example of, and in this case, it was Mihalka and My Bloody Valentine. The Legacy of My Bloody Valentine Despite all the censorship, it still found an audience. And we can celebrate it 45 years later. It is a testament to the story, the amazing sets, and better-than-average performances that, despite having the most exciting parts of the movie excised, the film became iconic. It is the trope foundation for so many slasher films to come. I Know What You Did Last Summer comes to mind. Scream, with its multiple killer options, also owes a debt to this film. And those are just the big ones. Simply put, My Bloody Valentine is foundational horror. For me, it ranks only behind 1978’s Halloween for slasher movies of that era. You can see the family tree: Black Christmas, The Town That Dreaded Sundown, My Bloody Valentine, I Know What You Did Last Summer, Cold Prey, Heart Eyes. Silent human killers bent on revenge, in full costume, butchering their way through lots of pretty young adults. This is the model, and it works well when executed with focus and craft. My Bloody Valentine helped build the trope platform that so many slasher films have utilized. They may be cliches now, but along with Friday the 13th, The Burning, and Halloween, MBV established these themes: Masked killer (essential) The Hidden Villain Switcheroo Splitting up the group (OK, this one is as old as horror films have been around, but slashers really take advantage of this trope.) Sneaking off to have sex in the next room is really dangerous. Never leave a romantic interlude to get booze. Let’s go exploring a really dangerous place for the fun of it. A panicking mayor. The young people don’t listen to the cops. The cops don’t tell the people what they need to know. The mad prophet. (Happy, in this movie) The body in a cooler. (A nod to Rabid?) Childhood trauma made the killer. Remember. This is an early slasher film. MBV does all of these tropes better than most. Mihalka wanted to do Deer Hunter, slasher style. He knew what he was getting into and willingly admitted that this was a movie meant to be fun and make money. It wasn’t going to be an Oscar contender. But he took the ideas of The Deer Hunter and the disaffected blue-collar workers and crafted a story that, despite its drive-in bona fides, was as much about the community as it was about the killer. The film used a real mine in a wind-swept working-class Sydney, Nova Scotia. It has a simple, plausible story. And now that the film has recovered some of its cutting-room components, restored to a 4K Blu-ray Collector’s edition, it can be appreciated for the gory creativity that fans were denied in 1981. About George Mihalka George was a Hungarian immigrant to Canada, initially unable to speak English or French. He initially found it difficult to integrate into Canadian culture, but would eventually become a highly prolific director in both English- and French-language films. He has amassed over fifty credits. This includes long runs on Canadian TV shows: Crossbow, Scoop, Undressed, and 24-Hour Rental. However, he will always be known for My Bloody Valentine. You can find several of his interviews online, talking about this movie. (But of course, you found this one first, right?) Mihalka appears to be comfortable with his legacy. He’s had plenty of time to see his film first get threatened with an X-rating, then achieve moderate box-office success, receive a sequel, and become the moniker of a hugely influential post-punk shoegaze band. George genuinely seemed to glow at how much the fans appreciated his work all these years later. He isn’t a stranger to the festival and podcast interview circuit. His easygoing demeanor, combined with his wisdom and eagerness to share stories about the craft of filmmaking, makes for story time with Uncle George. This is why I love doing what I do. When you meet your heroes and they turn out to be wonderful people, it confirms that pursuing this hobby as a small-press horror blogger rewards the grind. The Interview: This is the recording from the Portland Horror Film Festival 2026 by Eric Li and Mike Campbell with George Mihalka. We recorded this in the green room for the Hollywood Theater before the big-screen presentation, with all the restored footage in 4K. In today's episode, filmmaker Philip Hartman discusses the enduring resonance of NO PICNIC, his gritty 1986 neo-noir drama and priceless artifact of pre-gentrication East Village, with film critic and writer Mark Asch in a conversation recorded at Film Forum specifically for this podcast. A new 4K restoration of NO PICNIC has been playing to sold-out crowds since it opened with us on April 20 of this year. We highly recommend that you read Mark's excellent article about the film at www.hellgatenyc.com. Photo by Chris Grubb.

Your iPhone might be running hot and draining fast — and it’s not just you. Dave and Pilot Pete break down the battery chaos introduced by iOS 26.5, which brought overheating, accelerated drain, and even blocked wired charging on iPhone 17 and Air models. The fix that’s working for most people: disable iCloud Keychain first, run Reset All Settings, then carefully re-enable iCloud sync — otherwise you’ll nuke your Wi-Fi passwords across every device. iOS 26.5.1 is out and should help, but until you’ve updated, your electrons deserve better. You’ll also learn why Apple ID passkeys are locked to Apple’s own keychain with no known path to third-party managers like 1Password or Keeper, and why editing a contact on a modern Mac can somehow peg every CPU core — in 2026, no less. From there, Dave and Pete tackle the full listener mailbag: how to rescue missing contact names from Messages, the right way to boot a MacBook with a broken display into clamshell mode so it actually uses the external monitor, and a deep dive on 5K vs. 4K displays where Dave argues your eyes may not care as much as the pixel-per-inch math suggests. You’ll get smart ideas for repurposing a 2015 iPad Pro that can’t run modern apps — including Dave’s Claude Code-built weather dashboard running off a headless iMac as a web interface. A crashing 2021 MacBook Pro turns out to have been felled by a single bad SD card, and the lesson is golden: feed your crash reports to an LLM and let it do the digging. And Don’t Get Caught with outdated OpenAI macOS apps — update ChatGPT, Codex, Atlas, and Codex CLI before June 12th to stay ahead of a code-signing rotation triggered by a compromised open-source library. 00:00:00 Mac Geek Gab 1145 for Monday, June 8th, 2026 June 8th: National Best Friends Day MGG Monthly Giveaway – Win a license to SaneBox Quick Tips 00:00:01 Dan-QT-Multi-select on iPhone with a quick drag 00:04:31 Tim-QT-Have iOS 26.5 Battery Drain? This week on Radio Labyrinth, we're escaping into remake hell as Zack Snyder is officially attached to write and direct a new reimagining of John Carpenter's 1981 cult classic Escape From New York. Snake Plissken is back on Hollywood's remake board, and we're asking the obvious question: does this need to happen, or should some movies be left alone? We also talk about the reported retirement of Clint Eastwood, look back at our favorite Eastwood films, react to Euphoria officially ending after Season 3, and discuss the new Birds limited series with Sarah Snook. Plus, we try to help Frylock avoid homelessness. Then it's time for Trailer Trash, Views or Snooze, and Staff Picks, including Cape Fear on Apple TV, The Vampire Lestat on AMC, Alice & Steve on Hulu, and Dustin's pick: the 4K release of Heathers.Welcome back to the Labyrinth.Watch the YouTube Show: https://youtu.be/QS3Lmj33VFQKeep It Canon.(Carey Means Go Fund Me more than tripled their goal so they have concluded it, Good Deal)▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀Hosts: Tim Andrews, Jeff Leiboff, Dustin Lollar and Lizzie Bruce JonesAudio Podcast & YouTube Video Edited by Dustin Lollar ▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀
What do you think? Should hip hop be any part of stepping? Topics discussed:
I'm super-excited about this week's episode, as I'm getting to talk about one of my favorite zombie movies (Day of the Dead) with one of the creators of that film (John Harrison, the first assistant director and composer of its iconic score) and one of the producers at one of my favorite boutique Blu-ray labels (Jeff Roland from Shout Factory/Scream Factory). We talk all about the making of the film, of course, but also the making of this set: one of my favorite special features on the bonus disc is a 30-minute-or-so doc about the actual restoration of this film. How they tracked down the interpositive, what they had to do to get the transfer into shape for a 4K release, how they had to mix the sound, etc. I really cannot recommend this set enough: it comes out June 16, but I strongly recommend picking up a copy now, as these collector's editions can be hard to keep in stock. Obviously, the fans of Romero's films are going to want it. But I would pitch it to anyone who appreciates a good piece of archival work: There are documentaries on this thing that will simply help you understand the world of physical media better. Plus a fun new audio commentary featuring Drew McWeeny and Daniel Kraus. And, of course, a pristine new transfer that gives extra depth and definition to all of those scenes set in the underground mines where most of the movie takes place.

A S I C:供给端第二侧是什么?讨论度很高的A S I C,其实核心就是谷歌定制的T P U,亚马逊的Trainium和微软Maia,以及一些乱七八糟的定制A S I C。 反正算力是可以锁价的,A股的算力租赁说了很多了,后续等待存货,营收,利润来验证吧,实在不行看看N B I L和N B I S呢?

It's classic Coen Brothers territory: crime, consequence, absurdity, and a richly drawn moral vacuum at the center of it all.We break down the full cast, including Frances McDormand as Doris, James Gandolfini as Big Dave, a scene-stealing Tony Shalhoub as attorney Freddie Riedenschneider, a very young Scarlett Johansson, and the always reliable John Polito. We also dig into Roger Deakins' stunning black-and-white cinematography — shot in color and reprinted in monochrome — and some of the film's most memorable sequences, including a brilliant tracking shot through an apartment hallway, a hubcap rolling down a hillside, and UFO imagery woven throughout Dennis Gassner's production design. On the Criterion side, we cover the full supplement package: the Coen Brothers' commentary track from 2004, a new 2025 interview with the brothers conducted by Megan Abbott, the Roger Deakins interview, and more. We also share our thoughts on whether the 4K upgrade is worth it if you already own the Blu-ray.The Man Who Wasn't There was a box office non-event in its time — roughly $19 million worldwide — but by any other measure it holds up as a quietly remarkable piece of filmmaking. Worth seeking out if you haven't seen it, and worth revisiting if you have.Support the showOh Brother Podcast:Support the Show! Kia ora e te whānau. Ian Sharman is a straight-up Legend in the sport of ultramarathon running. A Coach and Athlete hailing from the Golden Age, before 4K cameras in everyone's pockets and when fans had to pass around a pirated copy of Unbreakable, Sharman and his kin were like trail gods, foreshadowing and inspiring the current crop of legends and doing things us regular people could only imagine, and we had to, because it was before the great trailrunning media bubble formed. Starting DCR 8 years ago after growing up in the sport, listening to Shaman on Trail Runner Nation and the like, and having him on the podcast is like a dream come true. The four-time Leadville winner and Grand Slam of Ultra Running record holder joins Ali and Andrew for a long overdue catch-up about life on the trails, his amazing achievements in racing and coaching, and the why behind his new book, The Art of Ultrarunning: Tried & Tested Strategies for Long Distance Runners.Dirt Church Radio—Best Enjoyed Running.--- --- --- Episode Links Ian Sharman InstagramSharman Ultra CoachingThe Art Of Ultrarunning PreorderSign up for the DCR AidStation newsletter.Dirt Church Radio on InstagramDirt Church Radio on FacebookFurther Faster New ZealandEnjoy!Music by Andrew McDowall, Digicake

Something a little different, as today we review the recently remastered in 4K from a 35mm original camera negative by Kino Lorber, a boutique Blu-ray distributor. This new edition comes in both 4KUHD (two-disc) and Blu-ray (single disc) and can be purchased at the Kino Lorber website. Along with a new master of the film, each set (either two-disc or single) comes with audio commentary from directorSimon Wincer, a new interview with star Billy Zane, and an interview with film composer David Newman. A trailer is also included. At Chronicle Chamber, we picked up a copy for review. Watch or listen to our video review, and read on for our impressions of the new master, as well as special feature highlights. The New MasterOne of the elements to this film that Simon Wincer frequently comes back to in his audio commentary is the lighting, and it's for good reason. This new edition of The Phantom is beautiful. Compared to previous releases, the color and visuals are crisp, clean, and warm. There was a decision to use natural lighting as opposed to filters during production, and it pays off nicely. In outdoor adventure sequences, the natural lighting makes the action feel real and believable. In closed settings, such as Xander Drax and Diana Palmer's introduction scene early on in the film, a functional, expository sequence feels glamorous and stunning. When Dave Palmer agrees to send his niece, Diana, on a quest during this sequence, this new master captures the warmth and ornate decor of the art deco style of the 1930s. The sound is also markedly better than previous editions, making for an overall enjoyable rewatch that feels closer to what audiences experienced in theaters 30 years ago. The Special FeaturesDirector Simon Wincer's Audio CommentaryAudio commentaries can be hit or miss with many Bluray and 4KUHD releases, even from boutique companies. The Simon Wincer commentary included with this new edition of The Phantom lands right in the middle. It's not necessarily exciting, but it's not the worst commentary either. Wincer does highlight some of the elements and motifs he was going for, and he does spend a great deal of time talking about the use of natural lighting versus filtering. For Phantom fans looking for answers to decisions this adaptation makes, like why Guran was changed into a child helper of The Phantom or why a skeleton strangles a grave robber to death, there aren't any answers here. The quality of the audio commentary, at times, is also suspect. Right off the bat, there's a noticeable audio lag, as if this was recorded over Zoom or some other online meeting software. That's a bit of a disappointment. Billy Zane Interview: “Kismet in the Jungle”Thirty years after the release of the film, Billy Zane is a master craftsman at discussing The Phantom film. Many of the ideas and motifs he touches upon in this new interview have been covered elsewhere in talks at Supanova Con and other interviews. Zane highlights his love of the character stemming from collecting Frew Comics on visits to Australia and notes that, in his performance, he was trying to embody the classic adventure films of classic Hollywood from the likes of Douglas Fairbanks, Errol Flynn, John Wayne, and others. This interview has the highest production values to it, and for fans looking to see Zane wax poetic about all things The Phantom, it's a good interview. David Newman Interview: “Slam Evil: Scoring The Phantom”David Newman is a phenomenal composer, and to see him among the interviews included in this new release is something out of a dream for a huge fan of film scores (such as myself). This interview was conducted over Zoom or some other type of online meeting software, so the production value is a stark difference compared to Zane's interview. For film score enthusiasts, the soundtrack to The Phantom is a hidden gem. It's fast, rhythmic, complicated, and powerful. For Newman, putting this score together was mostly done on instinct and was something akin to a nightmare, which is unfortunate to learn. In the interview, Newman states that scoring The Phantom was a last-minute rush job that compiled hours and hours of work over a very short period, often with little to no sleep. While Newman doesn't have great memories of working on The Phantom, it's the film in his IMDB that he worked the hardest on. For those looking to learn a little about what's buried in the beat and rhythm of the soundtrack, Newman speaks to this. For Those Who Came In Late… What's the verdict? For Phantom “phans” who want to revisit this adaptation or film fans looking to tap into a little 90s nostalgia, this new master is absolutely stunning and the best version of The Phantom commercially available. For collectors who love to dive deep into special features and bonus content included in boutique collections like these, it's a bit of a miss. Apart from the Billy Zane interview, the other two special features feel hastily compiled to pad the set, and it's not worth the spend if you're primarily looking to learn more about the production and behind-the-scenes of The Phantom. Verdict: Buy it for the film, not the special features. Support the show

This week in Vegas history: June 4, 2020, Nevada casinos reopened after the COVID-19 shutdown. After more than two months closed, casinos across Las Vegas began reopening, including properties on the Strip, downtown, and around the valley. The D and Golden Gate reopened at 12:01 a.m., while other properties followed later that day. NEWS: Fertitta Entertainment is buying Caesars Entertainment in a deal valued at $17.6 billion, including about $11.9 billion in assumed debt. The deal would take Caesars private. Shareholders would receive $31 per share, which Reuters describes as nearly a 50% premium to Caesars' stock price before the deal was first reported in February. Tilman Fertitta's company already owns Golden Nugget casinos, the Houston Rockets, and a large restaurant/hospitality portfolio, including brands like Rainforest Café and Bubba Gump Shrimp. Caesars has been under pressure from softer Las Vegas visitation and growing competition in online betting, where rivals like FanDuel and DraftKings are stronger. Caesars' current leadership is expected to stay, including CEO Tom Reeg and CFO Bret Yunker. The deal includes a “go-shop” period through July 11, meaning Caesars can still consider competing offers. If completed, the acquisition would give Fertitta a much larger casino footprint: Caesars controls more than 50 casinos across North America, including Caesars Palace, Harrah's, and Eldorado, plus retail and online sports betting. The article notes the deal could face regulatory scrutiny because of the size and scope of the combined gaming/hospitality business. Vital Vegas reports that a private grand opening party for the newly rebranded Vanderpump Hotel will be held on June 11. The Heart Attack Grill closed abruptly on May 18. The property posted a passive aggressive rant on their door, stating that the closure was due to casinos pricing out average Americans. EDC goes to two weekends next year The plan was billed as a way to reduce crowds by spreading them out over two weekends, lol The first of those weekends, “EDC Dusk,” will roll out from May 14-16. The second, “EDC Dawn,” is set for May 21-23, while the full “Dusk Till Dawn Experience” will party from May 13-24. Johnny Kats is reporting that a new magic-based show “Now You See Me Live” will be moving into the David Copperfield theater at MGM Grand. Soul Belly BBQ, has opened a new location in the Miracle Mile shops. New Mirage bar at MGM Grand pool. A user on reddit posted photos of signs at the MGM Grand pool area, directing patrons to a new “Mirage Bar,” complete with the former strip property's iconic palm trees logo. A look at the pool complex map on the MGM Grand website confirms the change. The site was formerly called the “Splash Bar” and is located between the “Splash Pool” and “Reserve Pool.” MGM Resorts has retained the rights to the Mirage name after selling the Mirage resort site to Hard Rock International. Tailgate Social, Mandalay Bay's answer to Stadium Swim at Circa downtown, officially opened on May 16. Snoop Dogg performed at the opening The 50,000-square-foot venue features more than 125 feet of LED screens, three heated pools, 25 luxury cabanas, and two premium bungalows The Clark County commission will be voting to extend the annual Las Vegas Grand Prix, potentially through 2037. Nellie's Southern Kitchen Closing: The Jonas family restaurant near MGM Grand closed after May 25 service, reducing Southern comfort food options on the Strip. Drink Las Vegas, a culinary and cocktail festival, will run from Sept. 24 through 27 at four MGM Resorts properties: Aria, Bellagio, The Cosmopolitan, Park MGM. “Drink Las Vegas” will incorporate an opening party, panels and seminars, food and cocktail tastings, lunches, dinners and other experiences at more than 30 venues inside the properties. The event recently announced the chefs, restaurateurs, mixologists, sommeliers and other hospitality professionals who are participating. Virgin Hotels Las Vegas is reporting its strongest casino performance since reopening in 2021. The property has adjusted its focus to Las Vegas residents first-quarter 2026 data showed slot revenue up nearly 30 percent, coin-in up 10 percent, and table games revenue up 88 percent compared to the same period in 2025. Tony: Vital Vegas reports the Luxor is getting a new atrium light show. No word on when the show will debut. The Vegas Golden Knights swept the Colorado Avalanche in round 3 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs This is the third time the team has become the Western Conference champions in their 9-year history Though the Eastern Conference champions are still undecided at the time of recording, it's likely that the Golden Knights will face the Carolina Hurricanes in their bid for another Stanley Cup win. Jubilee Media founder and CEO Jason Y Lee joins Next in Media to break down how the digital-first studio builds scalable, format-driven IP that captures Gen Z's massive attention span without relying on a single face. Discover the monetization strategies behind their unscripted content, why creators are turning down Hollywood, and how authentic human conversation is outperforming AI in the modern creator economy. Key Takeaways: The Creator Economy Flip: Top digital creators no longer view Hollywood as the ultimate graduation point, reversing the media power dynamic as traditional studios now seek out digital-first strategies to survive. The Attention Span Myth: Massive engagement metrics on 90-minute videos prove that younger audiences aren't suffering from short attention spans; they are simply starving for unscripted, long-form authenticity. Format Over Face: Designing repeatable, host-agnostic IP rather than relying on a single charismatic personality eliminates key-person risk and unlocks true operational scalability for digital studios. Contextual Brand Storytelling: The next frontier of monetization rejects one-off, disruptive advertisements in favor of naturally embedding brands into existing, high-performing video franchises. The Anti-Echo Chamber Demand: Algorithms have hyper-fragmented public discourse, creating a massive, untapped market of viewers who actively seek out raw, multi-perspective content to escape their own echo chambers. The TV Screen Takeover: Digital-first production must now default to cinema-grade standards like 4K, as YouTube's massive growth on connected televisions blends the boundary between streaming networks and independent creators. The Human Premium in an AI Era: As artificial intelligence commoditizes automated content creation, media companies that double down on raw, real-life human connection will hold the ultimate competitive advantage. IP Upcycling and Windowing: Legacy distribution strategies like FAST channels and AVOD licensing represent the most lucrative secondary revenue streams for creators sitting on deep libraries of episodic content.
