It was the kind of place where parents felt safe letting their kids ride their bikes until the streetlights flickered on. But in the fall of 1995, that sense of security was shattered. A girl vanished without a trace—one moment, she was there, a bright, imaginative 13-year-old with dreams of becoming a writer. The next, she was gone. Her name was Jessyca Mullenberg.Jessyca's life had already seen its share of changes. After her parents divorced, she moved to Wausau, Wisconsin, with her mother, stepfather, and two younger brothers. She missed Eau Claire, missed the familiarity of her old neighborhood. But she still visited her father often, spending weekends with him in the house she once called home. It was during those visits that she met a man who would change the course of her life forever.Support the show

A version of this essay was published by firstpost.com at https://www.firstpost.com/opinion/shadow-warrior-what-zelenskys-debacle-says-about-us-newfound-clarity-13867967.htmlThe tongue-lashing received by Vladimir Zelensky in the Oval Office, in full view of the media, was a point of inflection. It highlighted something that we had suspected: the end of the ‘European Century' (or two or three), wherein they had risen to be the Masters of the Universe. Trump is emphasizing that the Atlantic was a 19th century story; with the rise of the US, the Pacific was the story of the 20th century; and the 21st finds the Indian Ocean rising.Zelensky's debacle was not the only pointer: Keir Starmer of the UK, despite some polite talk about the mythical ‘special relationship', was told sharply by Vance that there is no more free speech in the UK, and that it affects American technology companies and citizens. Let us remember also how Elon Musk lambasted the UK for its Pakistani rape gangs, and the limp-wristed reaction of its authorities. Trump also told Starmer “That's enough!”JD Vance, again, spoke some home truths to the Europeans at the Munich Security Conference, telling them their problems are home-grown: excessive migration, lack of democratic values, and censorship. All this is shocking to the supercilious elites of Europe, who are now seeing their cozy world collapse in front of their eyes: no more free-loading, no more Uncle Sam to the rescue. Suddenly, NATO is meaningless, and decades of Greta Thunberg and V-dem style lecturing, virtue-mongering and pontification are coming back to bite them on the backside. They must be recalling William Blake's apocalyptic vision in The Second Coming. Their world is indeed falling apart.Turning and turning in the widening gyreThe falcon cannot hear the falconer;Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhereThe ceremony of innocence is drowned; The best lack all conviction, while the worstAre full of passionate intensity. It's hard to blame the Europeans. They have forgotten how it was only yesterday, as it were, that they were being hounded by the Barbary pirates, enslaved and turned into janissaries by the Turks. I read how the author of Don Quixote had been himself captured, enslaved for five years, and ransomed in 1580 for 300 gold coins, worth some $40,000 today. The European Century has made Europeans, and us, Fourth Worlders or those formerly colonized by them (as V S Naipaul put it), forget that Europe is just a backwater, a mere peninsula, an appendage, to Asia. It is now reverting to just “Northwest Asia”. For most of recorded history, Europe was an uncivilized land of savages; it was only the lucky accident of the Industrial Revolution that gave it the wherewithal to dominate the world. But that is in the past: the economic center of gravity of the world has indeed moved from the Atlantic to Asia.Source: The Economist.comThe illusion that America is obligated to support Europe, and also to fight Russia to the bitter end as part of the Cold War, was nurtured by Atlanticist Eastern Europeans exercised by an age-old blood feud: that between the Russian Orthodox Church on the one hand, and Catholics and other Protestant churches on the other hand. Those certainties are now falling by the wayside, as Trump pivots to the Pacific and Indian Oceans, as well as back to isolationist Fortress America. As Zelensky did mention in his tirade, America has the good fortune to have two oceans around it, a serious moat. The US has been gaslighted for a long time by nose-in-the-air Europeans, most especially the mischief-makers at the UK's Whitehall (who are the real Deep State). But that's wearing off, and the blinkers are falling from their eyes. Sadly for Zelensky, he will be the first one affected by this new-found clarity.Zelensky also made several rookie mistakes. First, you don't go to your benefactor's lair (ie. the US Oval Office) dressed in a sweatshirt. Second, you don't talk over Trump. Third, you don't get into a shouting match in English with native speakers when English is your second language: you might miss the nuances of “you don't hold any cards”, for instance. Fourth, and most importantly, you don't trust Starmer, Macron, etc. and take up cudgels with Trump. The near-simultaneous “toolkit” tweets from a lot of EU grandees suggests they gaslighted Zelensky into his suicidal bit of bravado against Trump in the Oval Office. They used the exact same words! And Trump doesn't take slights lightly. The implications are dire. The Ukraine War is as good as over, because the Europeans alone cannot (or will not) supply Zelensky with enough weaponry to hold off Russia indefinitely. The most likely outcome is a ceasefire followed by a standstill agreement: what Ukrainian territory Russia currently holds it will continue to hold; Ukraine will be de jure partitioned. The rest is negotiable. If the Europeans had any sense, they would patch up with Russia. NATO as we know it will come to an end, and EU+Russia is a pretty powerful force, and neither will have to kowtow to China. With the US out of the picture, divided EU and Russia will both fall into the dhritarashtra alinganam of sweet-talking China. To their ultimate detriment, of course. It is good to contrast Trump's treatment of all these Europeans with his much gentler treatment of the Japanese PM Shigeru Ishiba, and the Indian PM Narendra Modi, both Quad partners. He was polite and businesslike with them. Also, when a reporter asked about AUKUS, the brain-dead partnership with the UK that Biden dragged another Quad partner, Australia, into, his response was: “What's that?”There were early glimpses of a Trump foreign policy taking shape, as I mentioned in two prior columns: Chronicles of a Foreign Policy Foretold and Trump's America and Modi's India. Now things are clearer: there's a new Sheriff in town, and things are going to be different. But, William Blake notwithstanding, it's not the end of the world. We will all carry on.1000 words, 1 Mar 2025 This is a public episode. The age of BLM is over. Daniel Penny's case proves itChristian Post, By William Wolfe, on December 11, 2024https://www.christianpost.com/voices/the-age-of-blm-is-over-daniel-pennys-case-proves-it.htmlThe panel discussion centers on the role of religion in shaping morality and societal values, with a focus on the influence of religious dogma in modern life. The conversation begins with an exploration of how religious teachings have historically been used as a means of social control, reinforcing hierarchical structures and perpetuating fear-based compliance. The panelists critique the idea that religion is an inherent moral guide, pointing out how often it has been used to justify harmful practices and limit individual freedom. They then delve into the dangers of rigid belief systems, highlighting how some interpretations of scripture can fuel division and perpetuate harmful ideologies. The conversation touches on the importance of questioning religious narratives, especially when those narratives conflict with modern values of equality, compassion, and reason. The discussion shifts to the role of religious beliefs in shaping public policy, with examples showing how outdated teachings still influence decisions in areas like healthcare and education. The panelists suggest that the resistance to change within religious institutions often leads to a stagnation of progress, making it harder to address contemporary social issues effectively. Finally, the conversation concludes by acknowledging the personal struggles faced by individuals who question or leave their faith behind. Despite the challenges, the panelists emphasized the importance of personal autonomy and the value of constructing belief systems based on reason, empathy, and an understanding of the world as it is, rather than through the lens of ancient religious texts. The Non-Prophets, Episode 24.01.4 featuring Scott Dickie, Kelley Laughlin, Jonathan Roudabush and Stephen HarderBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-non-prophets--3254964/support.

Easier for students to come out as gay than Christian, Evangelical group says Christian Post, By Anugrah Kumar, on November 11, 2024 https://www.christianpost.com/news/easier-for-students-to-come-out-as-gay-than-christian.htmlThe panel discussed a growing cultural conflict in Northern Ireland surrounding Christian versus secular education, with a focus on sexuality and reproductive health. Jonathan highlighted concerns raised by a representative of the Evangelical Alliance, Mr. Smyth, about the school system teaching "inappropriate" sexual information, allegedly conflating biological sex and gender identity, and including "dangerous practices." Smyth claimed he sought common ground but opposed scientifically accurate, inclusive education, particularly concerning abortion and gender identity.Cindy criticized the Christian victimhood narrative, highlighting the absurdity of equating religious "oppression" with LGBTQ+ struggles. She emphasized the historic harm perpetuated by religious institutions and called out their attempts to stifle scientific and social progress. AJ noted Northern Ireland's success in maintaining secular education, contrasting it with U.S. challenges, and pointed out Smyth's hypocrisy in labeling inclusive education as ideological pressure while promoting religious indoctrination. The panel agreed that Smyth's testimony likely stemmed from new mandatory curriculum regulations on abortion and reproductive health, which he saw as excluding Christian perspectives. They criticized his framing of secular inclusivity as an attack on religious freedom. Cindy linked this to broader culture wars, emphasizing that lumping abortion, LGBTQ+ rights, and other progressive issues into one "far-left" narrative is a common conservative tactic. The Non-Prophets, Episode 23.47.2 featuring Kelley Laughlin, AJ, Jonathan Roudabush and Cindy PlazaBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-non-prophets--3254964/support.

Initially, Greg Jr.'s parents reacted with a desire to "fix" him, resorting to harmful measures like conversion therapy. This led to emotional turmoil for Greg Jr. and strained family dynamics. Jimmy noted the profound psychological damage such practices inflict, emphasizing the dehumanizing comparison of being gay to acts like murder.Eli highlighted how the McDonalds, influenced by external voices such as David Gushee's progressive theological views, shifted to a more accepting, albeit imperfect, stance. However, he critiqued their transformation for framing Greg Jr.'s sexuality as a flaw to be tolerated rather than normalized.Panelists also examined how religious doctrines perpetuate harmful biases, often targeting women, and explored the broader societal harms stemming from rigid evangelical beliefs. Despite the family's eventual reconciliation, the discussion underscored the enduring harm inflicted by religiously motivated rejection. The Non-Prophets, Episode 23.46.2 featuring Cynthia McDonald,  Eli Slack and Jimmy Jr.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-non-prophets--3254964/support.

Here's What I Saw Before I Got Expelled From Jordan Peterson's Online “University”Slate Magazine, By Luke Winkie, on October 3, 2024https://slate.com/life/2024/10/jordan-peterson-academy-university-online.htmlThe launch of Jordan Peterson's online university seems like a calculated move to exploit the disillusionment of individuals frustrated with mainstream education. Peterson has branded his institution as a place for free speech and open debate, but it appears to be more about capitalizing on people's distrust of established educational systems than providing real academic value. Rather than focusing on delivering quality education, Peterson emphasizes buzzwords like "self-improvement" and "debate" while glaringly omitting any mention of rigorous academics or intellectual challenge. His school offers classes taught by people without relevant expertise—such as a theologian teaching decolonization and an author, not a medical professional, leading a course on nutrition. This lack of qualified instructors raises red flags about the integrity of what's being offered. When someone attempted to question the legitimacy of the university, they were expelled, demonstrating a serious lack of tolerance for genuine inquiry or criticism. This speaks to an environment more concerned with reinforcing Peterson's narrative than fostering true intellectual growth. Despite claiming to seek accreditation, Peterson's university is unwilling to meet the educational standards required by accrediting bodies. Instead, they defiantly declare that they won't change their methods to fit what they call an "outdated system." In reality, accreditation is a safeguard ensuring that students receive an education that meets minimum quality standards. By dismissing these standards, Peterson's project reveals itself as more of a self-serving business venture than a legitimate academic institution. This so-called university seems to exist to cater to a particular demographic: individuals who feel alienated by modern educational practices and are eager to hear perspectives that align with their biases. Rather than engaging with the complexities of issues like gender, colonization, or global history, the courses offered appear to be narrow, one-sided, and ideologically driven. The fact that Peterson's university lacks diversity of thought—despite his claims of championing free speech—is a glaring contradiction. This institution, marketed as an antidote to "woke" academia, seems to prioritize indoctrination over real education, feeding followers a steady diet of shallow, agenda-driven material. Ultimately, Peterson's venture looks like an opportunistic cash grab, using the guise of education to sell his ideological brand. Instead of offering meaningful academic opportunities, it's preying on those who want to learn but can't afford traditional higher education, all while delivering a product that lacks depth, nuance, or academic rigor. The question remains: Is this really about education, or is it just another way for Peterson to fleece his followers? The Non-Prophets, Episode 23.42.2 featuring Kelley Laughlin, Jonathan Roudabush, Cindy Plaza and Cynthia McDonaldBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-non-prophets--3254964/support.

Senate GOP blocks bill to guarantee access to IVF nationwideCNN Politics, By Clare Foran and Ted Barrett, on June 13, 2024https://www.cnn.com/2024/06/13/politics/senate-ivf-bill-vote/index.htmlThe recent Senate vote blocking a bill to secure nationwide access to in-vitro fertilization (IVF) has sparked a heated debate, exposing deep political and ethical divisions. The bill aimed to protect IVF regardless of state legislature whims, but the GOP's surprising decision to vote against it has raised questions about their motivations. Cindy reported on the story, revealing insights from a CNN article. The GOP's stance has been labeled as political theater, with accusations that Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer is using the vote to force Republicans into a corner, making their rejections ammunition for the upcoming Democratic campaigns. Cindy argues that this tactic is effective, forcing the GOP to either support beneficial legislation or face political repercussions.Jimmy adds that the debate is both political theater and a genuine issue, pointing out inconsistencies in the GOP's stance on family values. He highlights the irony of the party that supports medical coverage for treatments like Viagra and hair replacement but opposes IVF, a procedure that could bring joy and fulfillment to many families. Both Cindy and Jimmy agree that the Senate's decision reflects broader societal and political dynamics, with significant implications for reproductive rights and healthcare access. The debate also touches on the role of corporate interests, particularly insurance companies, in influencing legislative decisions. Jimmy suggests that insurance companies may be lobbying against coverage for IVF to control costs, a strategy that ultimately hurts families seeking fertility treatments. Cindy emphasizes the broader impact on states, particularly those with restrictive reproductive laws, predicting that such states could become medical deserts, driving away healthcare providers and companies, and exacerbating inequities for the poorest residents. The conversation delves into the ethical and moral dimensions of IVF, contrasting the GOP's pro-life stance with their opposition to fertility treatments. Cindy and Jimmy highlight the need for a comprehensive discussion on reproductive rights, encompassing more than just abortion. They argue that the Senate vote is a crucial moment for highlighting the broader issues at stake and the need for consistent policies that truly support family values. As the debate continues, it becomes clear that the implications of the Senate's decision extend far beyond IVF, touching on fundamental questions about healthcare, corporate influence, and the role of government in supporting or hindering access to medical treatments. The outcome of this debate will have lasting effects on families across the country, particularly those in states with restrictive reproductive laws, and will shape the future of healthcare policy in the US.  #ReproductiveRights #HealthcareAccess   #FamilyValues The Non-Prophets, Episode 23.26.2 featuring Cynthia McDonald, Jimmy Jr., and Cindy PlazaBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-non-prophets--3254964/support.

Former Dauphin County Chief Detective Thomas Brennan's phone rings between 3 am and 4 am from a responding officer requesting assistance on a crime scene. When the detective arrives, he notices a car pulled close to a ditch. Brennen, who received training at the FBI Behavioral Science Unit during his tenure with the state police, knew immediately what he was dealing with when he arrived at the Conrail crime scene. After Brennan asks the officer for details, the officer explains that a Conrail train security guard had stumbled onto a man attacking a woman. The man was startled and he ran off. Thankfully the victim was injured but alive so he called for police and waited with her until help arrived.  Detective Brennan noted that the vehicle's trunk was open and inside was what many would call a “kit” such as rope, and duct tape, as in things to help someone kill or at least bind another person. Outside the car on the ground were plastic mats, seemingly to cover the ground inside the ditch. It was now clear to Brennan that this man had planned to kill his victim, put her in that ditch, and drive away. NC pastor says rape suspects aren't guilty if victims wore shorts, prompting outrageCharlotte Observer, By Joe Marusak, on Feb 26, 2024https://www.charlotteobserver.com/news/local/article285847716.htmlThe discussion delved into Pastor Bobby Leonard's controversial remarks and subsequent apology, which sparked widespread condemnation. Leonard suggested that rape suspects should be acquitted if their victims wore shorts, drawing intense backlash for perpetuating victim-blaming and excusing sexual assault. Despite his apology displayed on a church sign, skepticism remained as it failed to address the deeper issues raised by Leonard's remarks. Participants in the discussion expressed outrage and incredulity at Leonard's remarks, highlighting the inherent misogyny and flawed logic behind his stance. They criticized his apology as insufficient and insincere, calling for more meaningful accountability and recognition of the harm caused. The conversation also touched on the broader societal issues of purity culture and the objectification of women, noting the need for a shift in attitudes and behaviors. Moreover, there was a discussion about the biblical basis for Leonard's views, with some participants citing passages that perpetuate misogynistic beliefs. Others emphasized the importance of self-reflection and addressing the root causes of such attitudes, rather than simply condemning individual actions. Suggestions for Leonard's path forward included engaging with his congregation to challenge harmful beliefs and behaviors and seeking professional counseling or education. Overall, the conversation underscored the gravity of Leonard's remarks and the broader implications for women's rights and gender equality. It called for a nuanced approach to addressing the underlying issues of misogyny and victim-blaming, emphasizing the importance of genuine accountability and meaningful change. The Non-Prophets, Episode 23.10.1 featuring Kelley Laughlin, Infidel64, Scott Dickie and Richard Allen
