POPULARITY
David decides not to break down any of the aspects of the Wake Forest, Virginia, or Notre Dame games, and instead gives his feelings on the season to-date. Plus a return of the Hark the Sound feature and probably the best Wine and Cheese Whine of the Week of the season.
Upon further review, David is still frustrated with the foul called on Brandon Robinson at the end of the Boston College game. And also with Cole taking a contested three at the end of the game. Turns out he's just frustrated by the end of the Boston College game. Then a retroactive AND follow up Wine and Cheese Whine of the Week (it'll make sense when you hear it). Plus a look at the FSU game and the path ahead for the Heels.
A Sports Night Says it Better Than Me segment to open the show would be a great way to get things started if not for the bad news the clip references. David covers some low-lights of the Pitt game, complete with depressing shooting statistics, then moves on to somewhat happier topics. A Wine and Cheese Whine of the Week about officiating reviews, Dear Rameses makes its return with an NCAA Tournament themed question, and we re-visit the "Roy Williams believes in fouling up 3" proclamation. Plus a quick look ahead and the upcoming schedule.
WARNING: Everything in this episode is sad. Nothing in it is happy. Listen at your own risk. Hark the Sound reminds us just how good December was for the Tar Heels, despite how we felt at the time. Then a breakdown of the breakdown in the final two minutes of regulation against Clemson. Afterward, a hodge podge of negative news, ranging from CB McGrath's firing to Brandon Robinson's car accident. Finally, a Wine and Cheese Whine of the Week about the college football national championship.
In the process of trying to do a quick recap of the GT game and move on, David gets all riled up and winds up spending half of the episode rehashing what went wrong with Carolina Basketball this Saturday. The mood only improves slightly when the next 17 games are analyzed to determine the likelihood of an NCAA Tournament berth. Plus a Wine and Cheese Whine of the Week calls out the ACC basketball schedule to start the new year, Vince Carter plays an NBA game in four different decades (!!!), and a look at Carolina's seeding by the last digit of the year. If this doesn't cheer you up...well, it's probably not going to cheer you up.
A basketball heavy start to the show, with discussion of Yale, Gonzaga, and UCLA (in that order). A DOUBLE Hark the Sound featuring both Mariah Carey and All Saints, followed by a Wine and Cheese Whine of the Week about beverage prices in T-Mobile Arena. Then things wrap up with a Military Bowl recap and a big jump in the rankings on 3rd and Longo.
If you aren't depressed prior to listening to this, you will be afterward. A recycled Hark the Sound sets the mood for the Wofford game recap. Then a Wine and Cheese Whine of the Week focused on the Hickory Tavern Carmichael Throwback Game of the Week brought to you by Coca Cola. Then an informative explanation of the term "next set of 10s" and looking ahead to Roy breaking Dean's record, Gonzaga, UCLA, and Yale.
Tons of content on this week's episode. A brief recap of the Mercer contest, complete with a Wine and Cheese Whine of the Week, a Sports Night Says it Better Than Me, and a 3rd and Longo. Then it's time to look ahead to the final regular season contest of the season, starting with an interview with Wolfpack Tri-Partisan James Henderson (7:30). If you're one of those basketball only folks, the discussion turns to Roy's boys about two thirds of the way through the show. Plus, a Thanksgiving-themed Dear Rameses.
A discussion of perfectionism, or the lack thereof, to lead off the recap of the Pitt game. A Wine and Cheese Whine of the Week focused on instant replay. Then David talks unlimited football future and his prediction for the way the Coastal Division plays out. The discussion moves to a happier topic as the episode ends with a recap of the Gardner-Webb game and in-game activities at the Dean Dome.
Another week, another one possession game. Discussion of the loss to Virginia and the offensive slugfest the game turned out to be. Plus a look at Bryce Perkins' stat line using a tasteful amount of fantasy football facts. One of the greatest Sports Night clips of all time, plus a 3rd and Longo and a Seminole themed Wine and Cheese Whine of the Week. Then it's on to basketball. With a win over WSSU but the loss of B-Rob, there is plenty to consider before Notre Dame comes to town.
In addition to re-living the exciting win over Duke, we've got a DOUBLE Wine and Cheese Whine of the Week, focusing on uniforms and announcer terminology. Plus redemption for Noah Ruggles is highlighted with a recycling of last epidode's Sports Night clip. In 3rd and Longo, things go the wrong direction for the Heels third down conversion percentage this week. Plus, IT'S ALMOST BASKETBALL SEASON!
