Shai Gilgeous Alexander's STATEMENT Game MYSTIFIES Gil's Arena as the Gil's Arena Crew reacts to SGA delivering an MVP Level performance to push the OKC Thunder over the San Antonio Spurs to even up the Western Conference Finals and break down how the best player in the world got the best of Victor Wembanyama & The Spurs in Game 2. They also discuss Isaiah Hartenstein stepping up to stymie the French Phenom by defending him with hostility in the paint and give their takes on which secondary players will shape this series as both Jalen Williams and Dylan Harper went down with injury and Stephon Castle continued to suffer ball security issues that would make James Harden cringe. They then react to new reports detailing Victor Wembanyama's offseason training with Shaolin monks and debate if Wemby's unconventional training methods are the secret behind his metoric rise this season as he sits just a few wins away from taking over the NBA. Next, they react to the hostile beef between Jaylen Brown & Stephen A Smith as the Boston Celtics' superstar continued to go after the sports media legend following his exit from the NBA Playoffs and debate which side is the most out of pocket as the battle on their respective airways. Finally, they react to the fallout of the NBA Draft lottery that awarded the Washington Wizards with the top pick in a loaded draft and analyze the NBA's proposed anti-tanking lottery reform as it aims to drastically shift how bad teams are built through the draft. In this episode, I'm joined by Tanya St-Lawson, a martial artist whose journey spans continents, cultures, and decades of deep personal cultivation. Born in the former Czechoslovakia, Tanya first began training in the martial arts as a teenager after moving to Prague, where she was introduced to Shaolin-style kung fu. What started as an interest in martial arts quickly evolved into a lifelong pursuit of discipline, self-discovery, and embodied practice. Her path has taken her across Europe and into China, studying a wide range of systems and disciplines including Eagle Claw Kung Fu, English Martial Arts, Shaolin Temple arts, stage and screen combat, and bodywork modalities in Switzerland and the United Kingdom. Alongside her martial training, Tanya also served in the British Police from 2006 to 2011 within a Public Protection Unit, working in critical and serious incidents. That experience gave her a unique perspective on conflict, stress, and the role martial arts can play as both a stabilizing force and a practical framework for daily life. In 2009, her martial path took a profound turn when she traveled to the Wudang Mountains of China, where she began transitioning from primarily external systems into the world of internal martial arts and Daoist cultivation. Over multiple extended stays, including six months living and training at the Five Immortals Temple, she immersed herself in the traditions of the Dragon Gate, Chun Yang lineage under Abbot Xing De. Today, Tanya lives in the south of England, where she continues her training while teaching movement, embodiment, internal martial arts, and practical strategies for personal evolution and everyday living. In today's episode, we sit down for our final interview with Master Shi Heng Yi. This profound conversation brings his journey full circle, exploring the deep personal and spiritual transitions he has navigated over the past three years. Master Shi Heng Yi opens up about experiencing a highly challenging period of internal struggle. He discusses the difficult but necessary decision to step away from his established life at the temple in Germany to prioritise and support his family. This major life shift forced him to confront his attachments, dismantle his public identity, and deeply evaluate the philosophies that truly serve him. Throughout the episode, he reflects on the concepts of shedding old habits and stepping into a life of pure authenticity. He shares valuable insights on releasing the need for external validation, the paradox of finding true fulfilment through emptiness, and why the real essence of Shaolin lies in the mental teachings of Zen rather than just physical movement. I share the story of first connecting with Ed in January 2023, discuss the incredible rise of the JRE Companion page, and explain why it stands apart as the best Rogan fan account online. How do you share wisdom in a world that rarely slows down enough to hear it? In this unseen conversation, Shi Heng Yi reflects on the purpose of Shaolin Temple Europe, the discipline of practice, and the quiet responsibility of passing knowledge from one generation to the next. Filmed at Shaolin Temple Europe in Germany, this episode explores what the temple really represents. Not just martial arts, but a way of improving life, building awareness, creating discipline, and learning how to guide others once you've found stability within yourself. Master Shi Heng Yi explains why training continues through rain, cold, discomfort, and uncertainty, and why there is beauty in the harder parts of life. He also shares how Shaolin teachings apply far beyond fighting, through movement, meditation, mindfulness, recovery, balance, and everyday presence. This conversation is about practice over theory, experience over explanation, and the slow, patient work of becoming someone who can carry wisdom with responsibility. If you're interested in Shaolin philosophy, discipline, mindfulness, martial arts, or personal growth, this episode offers a rare look inside the teachings and environment of Master Shi Heng Yi. Topics include: • Master Shi Heng Yi and Shaolin Temple Europe • The purpose of Shaolin teachings • Discipline, discomfort, and training in nature • Meditation, mindfulness, and martial arts • Why wisdom must be experienced, not just explained • Becoming the best version of yourself • The disciple path and passing knowledge forward • Finding beauty in hardship Learn more about your ad choices. This is the Shaolin perspective: we know that if we only look at that all of the time that we might become an extremely aggressive person that doesn't understand how to use it properly, that's why there needs to be a balance in the training as well.” –Paula LazarzSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Shi Heng Yi has spent nearly four decades studying and teaching the Shaolin philosophy of self-mastery, and his core insight may be the most honest thing you hear all year: the reason you are not where you want to be is not bad luck, bad timing, or lack of talent. It is one of five ancient hindrances operating in your mind right now, without your awareness. So many people feel the pull of desire for things that do not serve them, carry ill will they cannot explain, move through the day in a fog of restlessness, or quietly doubt whether any of it is even possible for them. These are not character flaws or signs of weakness. They are predictable mental states that have been mapped and studied for thousands of years, and you can learn to see them clearly. In this conversation, Shi Heng Yi teaches you his four-step RAIN method for catching a hindrance in the moment and moving through it with discipline rather than reaction. Whether you are building something, healing something, or simply trying to show up fully in your own life, this episode gives you the internal tools to stop being ruled by your mind and start leading it. What happens when a legendary hip‑hop collective, a single ultra‑exclusive album, and one of the most hated men in America collide? This is the unbelievable true story behind the most valuable piece of recorded music ever made: Wu‑Tang Clan's "Once Upon a Time in Shaolin". Conceived as a protest against the collapse of music's value in the digital age, the album was recorded in secret over six years, packaged like a Renaissance-era artwork, and released as a one‑of‑one CD. But what started as a bold artistic statement quickly spiralled into a saga of eccentric millionaires, internet hoaxes, lawsuits, FBI raids, and one pharmaceutical villain known worldwide as the “Pharma Bro.” From clandestine studio sessions in Marrakech to the surreal plan for a Bill Murray–led heist, we unravel the twists, scams, cultural debates, and legal battles that turned "Once Upon a Time in Shaolin" into the most infamous album of all time. And yes, the story is still unfolding. This is the wild, true tale of the Wu‑Tang album that became a federal asset, a meme, a lawsuit magnet, and a myth. Learn more about your ad choices. In today's episode, Jordan sits down with Master Shi Heng Yi for a deeply reflective conversation about childhood wounds, the burden of expectations, and the journey toward true inner freedom. Master Shi Heng Yi opens up about his upbringing and early martial arts education, where he constantly faced the pressure of "never being enough." He explains how this relentless drive shaped him into a high achiever and a self-reliant "lone wolf" who suppressed his emotions, but ultimately led him to realize that external success does not equate to a content and happy life. The conversation ventures into profound philosophical territory as Master Shi Heng Yi discusses the illusion of identity and the ego. He shares his conscious decision to release his celebrated "Shaolin Master" persona, transitioning from the exhausting pursuit of being "someone" to finding profound peace in being "no one." Using the powerful analogy of the mind as a radio antenna getting hooked on different thought frequencies, he explains the nature of karma, emotional attachments, and the importance of untangling our true selves from our fleeting thoughts to remain entirely in the present moment. Finally, Master Shi Heng Yi clarifies the true essence of the Shaolin tradition, emphasizing that its core is not found merely in physical movement, but in the Zen teachings of mastering the mind to end human suffering. He connects these deep spiritual insights to his new role as a father, sharing his commitment to breaking generational cycles of conditional love and trauma. This episode offers a transformative perspective on letting go of ownership, releasing the need to control life's path, and allowing the natural flow of existence to guide the way. Shi Heng Yi joins me to explore the path of self-mastery through the lens of the Shaolin tradition, and why, despite having more comfort and convenience than ever before, so many people still feel a deep sense of inner lack. We unpack the idea that external success, wealth, and achievement cannot replace a missing sense of inner stability, and how the constant search outside of ourselves often leads us further away from what we are truly looking for.In this conversation, we explore the relationship between mind, body, and energy, and why true mastery begins with learning how to regulate and understand oneself rather than trying to control the external world. Shi Heng Yi shares how thoughts shape reality, why discipline and consistency are essential for growth, and what it means to become “transparent” by letting go of identity and the need to be someone. This episode is an invitation to shift from reacting to life toward consciously creating it from within.Oneskin - Use code KNOW THYSELF for 15% offhttp://oneskin.co/KNOWTHYSELFLimited time only!MUDWTR - Up to 43% off sitewide (and a free frother!)https://www.mudwtr.com/knowthyself[Code: KNOWTHYSELF]André's Book Recs: https://www.knowthyselfpodcast.com/book-list___________0:00 Intro1:11 The Root of Suffering: Becoming Someone1:50 Why Comfort Doesn't Create Peace4:56 The Inner Void Beneath External Success9:16 The Path of Self-Mastery16:04 Mastering the Mind, Not the World21:07 Where Attention Goes, Energy Flows27:21 Ad: OneSkin28:43 The Essence of the Shaolin Spirit36:29 Living with Intention and Integrity44:14 Service Beyond the Self46:34 The Freedom of Being No One57:14 Ad: Mud/Wtr58:56 Trust, Discipline, and the Inner Path1:05:24 Strength Without Suppression1:10:20 The Middle Way of Emotion1:13:11 Structure as the Gateway to Freedom1:19:00 Returning to the Body1:35:36 The Body as a Tool for Awareness1:42:32 Breath as the Bridge to Presence1:46:38 Seeing Clearly: The End of Suffering1:54:31 From Endless Seeking to Direct Experience1:59:27 The Mind's Five Obstacles2:08:07 Turning Awareness Inward2:11:20 Beyond the Illusion of Separation2:14:25 Nothing to Gain, Nothing to Lose2:15:30 Closing Thoughts___________Episode Resources: https://www.shihengyi.online/https://www.instagram.com/shihengyi.onlinehttps://www.instagram.com/andreduqum/https://www.instagram.com/knowthyself/https://www.youtube.com/@knowthyselfpodcasthttps://www.knowthyselfpodcast.com

"The more success you create in the world, the more shadows you must be willing to face within yourself." What if the real mastery in life isn't about controlling the world… but learning to master yourself? In this powerful episode of SoulTalk, Kute Blackson sits down with Shaolin Master Shi Heng Yi, founder of Shaolin Temple Europe and author of Shaolin Spirit: The Way of Self-Mastery, for a profound conversation about the mind, fear, identity, and the deeper purpose of life. Drawing from ancient Shaolin wisdom, Master Shi Heng Yi reveals why many of our fears are simply projections of the mind and how true freedom begins when we stop grasping onto our thoughts. He also speaks with rare honesty about the hidden price of success, the role of discipline in personal transformation, and why inner peace and love for life matter more than anything we achieve in the external world. Prepare for intense enlightenment, as Rob meets She Heng Yi, the founder of the Shaolin Temple Europe 歐洲少林寺 and author of the book Shaolin Spirit: The Way to Self-Mastery. Together, they explore the complexities of human emotions, identity, and the pursuit of happiness, discussing the notion that suffering and tension are inherent aspects of the human experience, and suggesting that true well-being comes from understanding and navigating these emotions rather than chasing a constant state of happiness. Master She Heng Yi focusses upon the importance of inner work and self-mastery, arguing that many people are trapped in a cycle of identifying with external labels and societal expectations BEST MOMENTS "The reason why in the first place we are aiming for some change... ultimately has always one goal, to make us feel well." "Searching for that one state called happiness right now is not possible." "The more you hold on to the patterns that are driven... the less freedom of conscious choice you have." Arlene Limas is a pioneering martial artist and leader whose career has helped reshape combat sports, self-defense, and personal empowerment. She began training at just five years old in Shaolin kung fu before transitioning to tae kwon do, where she quickly rose to the highest levels of international competition. In 1988, at the Seoul Olympic Games, she made history — becoming the first American and the first woman to win an Olympic gold medal in tae kwon do as the sport made its Olympic debut. Over the course of her competitive career, Arlene earned national titles, Pan-American titles, World University honors, and World Championship golds. She was later inducted into the Tae Kwon Do Hall of Fame and recognized as one of the greatest taekwondo athletes of the 20th century. After retiring from elite competition, she turned her focus toward leadership, mentorship, and advocacy. She opened her own martial arts school, breaking barriers for women in instruction and leadership roles, and continued championing empowerment through training. Today, she serves as the CEO of PAVE Prevention, where she works with organizations to promote personal safety, healthier workplace culture, and empowered performance through evidence-based, trauma-informed programs. In this episode, we talk about Olympic history, breaking barriers, leadership beyond the mat, and how martial arts can be a vehicle for lasting cultural change.
