Mariah Carey once lived under constant surveillance in her own home. Her husband planted cameras and recording devices around their prison-like mansion to watch her every move. He hired armed guards to follow her everywhere but the bathroom – the same armed guards who nearly shot Mariah's collaborators when she unexpectedly dipped for a 30-minute joy ride. Despite her record-breaking five-octave pipes, Mariah Carey didn't didn't have a voice in her relationship for years. And when she did finally speak up to get a divorce, that's when her husband's stalking ended…and his sabotage on her career began. On Prophecy Radio episode #148, Karen and Kristen discuss Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2, episode 2, “Demon Pigeons Attack.” They skip the news this time (since they just recorded the day before) and recap all the most interesting behind-the-scenes facts from the Official Percy Jackson Podcast. New episodes of Prophecy Radio air every other week. All discussions are PG-13. Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2, episode 2 discussion (00:02:59) This is the long-awaited chariot race episode! The Stymphalian birds are super creepy looking. Percy's superpower is water and also breaking the rules. Annabeth is so smart and sneaky! Chiron's musical choices are perfect and we wouldn't change a thing. Clarisse's idea of flirting is…aggressive. How do we feel about the new Chris Rodriguez? Should Annabeth and Percy have kept the coordinates to themselves? Chiron warns Annabeth of the Great Prophecy. How do we feel about the line, “He can't know there's something he can't know”? Boon. Tyson is so sweet to write home to Sally. We love how they're portraying Tyson as an innocent but intelligent person. The mimicry is…unnerving. We love Timothy Simons and Jason Mantzoukas playing opposite each other. Will we see Bondi again down the line? We love everything about the chariot race. Tantalus screaming bloody murder almost took us out. Mariah Carey was the perfect song choice, and Percy holding the stereo was classic. Do you know what's on Mr. D's shirt? Did Tantalus share the wrong coordinates on purpose or is he just an idiot? Was it just us or did Clarisse not seem too excited about her quest? It didn't take much convincing for Clarisse to pick Annabeth. But, oh, the betrayal!! WE FINALLY GET THE WEDDING DRESS. The interplay between these two characters is so natural. Percy is not asking for permission. Is anyone surprised? Quest approved! We're really coming around to Lin as Hermes. He cares about his son so much, even if he's been an absent father this whole time. Percy reasoned out why Annabeth would betray him, and they have a really deep conversation. Did Percy really leave the Camp border? Is the fact that they can never return in the books?? We talk about who Danny Virtue is. Next time on Percy Jackson and the Olympians… Percy Jackson and the Olympians Official Podcast highlights (01:07:20) There was SO MUCH awesome behind-the-scenes information in this episode. Of course, one of the first things they talk about is the dress. Tim's kids are big fans of the series. The dynamic between Tantalus and Mr. D is super interesting. It must be so fun being an adult on a show like this where you just get to be silly. Did you know the whole story behind Mrs. Dodds? Tantalus looks so different from everyone else because he's from the Underworld. They spend a lot of time talking about the chariot race scene, and it is AWESOME. How cool is it that the kids got to work with Danny Virtue? Aryan had to teach someone else how to goat walk this season. We learn more about how Lin came to be Hermes. If given another chance, Tantalus would totally monologue again. Tyson is now Percy's most loyal friend… Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 149, where we'll recap Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2, episode 3, as well as the next episode of the Official Percy Jackson Podcast. DM Dilemma's: You gave them a car. They keep asking for rides. Now what? We debate whether gifting something big automatically signs you up for more than you intended. Getting Vulnerable: It started with an unflattering photo of Marcus—and turned into a conversation about vulnerability. This episode is all about embracing imperfections, laughing at ourselves, and inviting listeners to join us by sharing their own unflattering photos. Bad angles welcome. What's Trending: The Powerball jackpot is out of control, Zootopia 2 is dominating the box office (again), and Oreo clearly woke up and chose chaos with eight new flavors. We're also freaking out over Mariah Carey performing at the 2026 Olympics opening ceremony, celebrating National Chocolate-Covered Anything Day, and unfortunately explaining how Marcus got caught lacking in a photo we posted online. Some episodes just write themselves. Second Date Update: After a wine bar date in Palo Alto, Grant felt optimistic. Olivia was stylish, engaged, and genuinely curious about his life. The conversation flowed from travel to pets to stand-up comedy, and everything about the night felt solid. Grant assumed he'd see her again—until he didn't. How The MERRY Rule Can Prevent Social Burnout During The Holidays: Feeling booked, broke, and burnt out this holiday season? Same. This episode dives into the MERRY Rule, a five-step check-in designed to help you avoid festive burnout. From protecting your bank account and social battery to making space for rest and doing what you actually want to do, we unpack how Money, Energy, Return, Recovery, and You can guide better holiday decisions—without turning you into the Grinch. Good News: A tiny home made a huge difference. In this episode, we talk about a Missouri-based program that helped a U.S. Navy veteran regain custody of his two-year-old daughter after years of recovery and instability. Once he received stable housing through a veteran-focused nonprofit, everything changed—from reunification with his daughter to building a new career and a supportive community. This is a story about second chances and the impact of safe, permanent housing.

In episode 439 of Friends Talking Nerdy, Professor Aubrey and Tim the Nerd continue their holiday-themed month by diving headfirst into the warm, weird, and wildly nerdy world of holiday entertainment. This week, they break down the movies, TV shows, music, and games that make the season feel complete, whether that means heartfelt tradition, chaotic comedy, or something that absolutely does not feel like it should be a Christmas classic but somehow is.The conversation spans iconic holiday television episodes from South Park and The Simpsons, exploring how satire, irreverence, and animation have become just as essential to the season as twinkly lights and leftovers. They debate the enduring cultural argument over Die Hard as a Christmas movie, revisit timeless classics like It's a Wonderful Life, and celebrate modern favorites such as Scrooged and A Muppet Christmas Carol, praising how each reinvents familiar holiday themes in very different ways.Music also gets its moment under the mistletoe, from unavoidable holiday earworms to artists who have become inseparable from the season—yes, including the unstoppable force that is Mariah Carey. Professor Aubrey and Tim discuss why certain songs and albums hit harder during the holidays and how nostalgia, repetition, and shared cultural memory turn entertainment into ritual.Rounding things out, they touch on board games and other forms of seasonal entertainment that bring people together, for better or worse, during long winter nights. The episode is a thoughtful, funny, and relatable exploration of why holiday entertainment matters, how it shapes our traditions, and why we keep returning to the same stories year after year.As always, we wish to thank Christopher Lazarek for his wonderful theme song. Head to his website for information on how to purchase his EP, Here's To You, which is available on all digital platforms.Head to Friends Talking Nerdy's website for more information on where to find us online.
In this episode, Sarah and Miranda Rake kick things off with some Mariah Carey karaoke and a rundown of their favorite “laundry folding films.” Then journalist Courtney Martin joins to talk about the messy, tender, and often overwhelming realities of caring for aging parents while raising kids—the ultimate sandwich generation hustle. Courtney shares what it's been like to relocate her whole family, the heartbreak and beauty of moving her dad into memory care, and how communal living and worker-owned elder care centers have shaped her journey. Grab a mug of tea, add another bag (Sarah's jam), and settle in for a conversation that's equal parts comfort and reality check.Other Links:* Learning in Public: Lessons for a Racially Divided America from My Daughter's School by Courtney Martin * What Our Intergenerational Household Taught All of Us About Care (Greater Good Science Center)* Opinion: Whoever needs to hear this: It's OK to put your loved one with dementia in residential care (SF Chronicle)* Elder Care (Courtney's Substack)* On Vanishing: Mortality, Dementia, and What It Means to Disappear by Lynn Castiel Harper* Creative Care: A Revolutionary Approach to Dementia and Elder Care by Anne Basting * Travelers to Unimaginable Lands: Dementia, Caregiving, and the Hidden Humanity of Memory by Dasha Kiper * Wise Unknown Podcast * Slate's How-To Podcast * the examined family (Courtney's Substack)* Mother of It All Bookshop (Bookshop.org)* Caring Across Generations (Ai-jen Poo)* Doulagivers Elder Care Doula Directory (Doulagivers: Find a Doula)* Home Care Cooperatives* Holiday Movies We Love (Or Don't)* Mariah Carey's Christmas Specials * A Merry Scottish Christmas * A Merry Little Ex-mas * White Christmas * Christmas in Connecticut * Desk Set* A Very Murray Christmas (Netflix)* Freakier Friday* Sarah's Letterboxd If you love the work we do on Mother Of It All, please consider becoming a paid subscriber. EPISODE 2!!!! We're so excited to talk about Episode 2 of the Disney+ Percy Jackson and the Olympians show, "Demon Pigeons Attack." We love the chariot race scene, and Mariah Carey to the rescue. We, naturally, spend a while talking about Percabeth and the tension between Annabeth and Percy. Clarisse gets a quest, but it already isn't going to go as planned. Percy tries to run away. Lin Manuel Miranda distracts us. RIP George and Martha. Percy, Annabeth, and Tyson set out on their quest aboard a ~rainbow~ raft.
