In this podcast Hannah Churchill, Research Communications Officer for Alzheimer’s Society takes the chair to talk with three Alzheimer’s Society funded researchers to discuss how they adapted in response to the pandemic. People with dementia have been worst hit by the COVID-19 pandemic – with over a quarter of people who died of COVID-19 between March and June 2020 having had dementia. Many dementia researchers have refocussed their work to study how the virus has impacted people living with dementia and their carers, to discover the likely long-term effects and to understand how care and support can be better provided in the future – ensuring lessons are learnt. Basic scientists turned their attention to COVID-19 testing, or took the time to learn new coding skills, write papers and to play the next stages of the research. While clinical researchers mostly returned to be entirely focussed on front line care within the NHS. The show is pleased to welcome: Dr Nuriye Kupeli, Senior Research Fellow from University College London. Nuriye, is works on understanding how compassion is experienced by family carers and developing interventions to support carers in their role. Dr Claire Pentecost, IDEAL Programme Manager from University of Exeter. IDEAL is the largest study of living well with dementia in the UK. The evidence will enable the development of new policy, interventions and initiatives to transform the lives of people with dementia and their carers. Remco Tuijt, PhD Student, University College London. Remco, is researching Post-diagnostic dementia care using interviews to explore healthcare experiences for people with dementia, their carers and their healthcare professionals. Claire Pentecost’s work engages collaboration, research, teaching, writing, lecturing, drawing, installation and photography in an ongoing interrogation of the institutional structures that organize knowledge. She has collaborated with Critical Art Ensemble and the late Beatriz daCosta, and since 2006 she has worked with Brian Holmes, 16Beaver and many others organizing a series of seminars to articulate the interlocking scales of our existence in the logic of globalization. In the Midwest, she collaborates with Compass, initiating a series of public hearings on the activities of the Monsanto Corporation. Recently Pentecost has exhibited at dOCUMENTA(13), Whitechapel Gallery, and the 13th Istanbul Biennial. She is represented by Higher Pictures, New York, and is Professor and Chair of the Department of Photography at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

The show opens with a bang! Britton Bertran's car is hit and we are the witnesses. And as you listen to this week's intro designed specifically to irritate Duncan, pause a moment and say to yourself..."Seriously?  Episode 104?"  Richard's parents have called us both to mention how happy they are.  Here we are poised on the cusp of another Bad at Sports season and this week Duncan is joined by friends of the show Lane Relyea and Claire Pentecost to interview/interrogate French American Theorist and Art Critic Brian Holmes.   As we roll over the two year mark we once again are faced with questions about the Bad at Sports Project.  We know what we think but once again we want to hear from you.  Please email your thoughts about the show and your hopes for it's future to badatsports@gmail.com please use the header "Hope Chest."  Thanks in advance for taking the time to help us get better. This show was recorded, edited, and mixed all on Sunday hence the late posting!!. This week: "Grub" a compost minded exhibit by Claire Pentecost organized, mulled, and presented by 13 SAIC grad students. Brian Andrews checks in from Portland where apparently all of the SF Hipster are fleeing to. Duncan and Richard muck through the Hollywood notion of an art show, but in real life, and do a couple quickie reviews of work at Lisa Boyle, Three Walls, Western Exhibitions, and a couple other places. In a shocking turn of events, the Raymond Pettibon interview  is postponed until after the art fairs.Apologies for the editorial slop this week, I was in a hurry.Real show note to follow soon!PLEASE contact us if you wish to help us out at the art fair.
