Der hat ein grandioses Zeitfahren hingelegt, aber so wirkliche Etappensieg-Stimmung kommt natürlich nicht bei uns auf“, sagt der 52-Jährige. Den Sturz von Lipowitz bewertet Denk mit klaren Worten. „Florian ist absolut am Limit gefahren, auch in der vorherigen Abfahrt. In der Kurve war er viel zu schnell. Er ist da zu optimistisch reingefahren, ich sehe da keinen anderen in der Schuld. Es ist ein Rennunfall im Eifer des Gefechts. Wenn es um etwas geht, muss man auch riskieren. In dem Fall war es zu viel Risiko“, betont der Teammanager. Für den Tagessieger hat Denk nur lobende Worte übrig. „Remco hat auch die Zeiten in der Simulation geschlagen. Er hat technisch alles richtig gemacht, auch das Material hat gepasst. Gratulation an Remco, das ist ein großartiger Sieg für uns“, sagt Denk und schickt eine klare Zielvorgabe hinterher. „Der zweite Platz in der Gesamtwertung ist jetzt das klare Ziel.“ Im letzten Teil geht es um die 17. Etappe, die am Mittwoch gefahren wird. 175 Kilometer müssen zwischen Cambery und Voiron zurückgelegt werden. „Ich glaube nicht an einen Sprint morgen, die Strecke ist zu schwer. Am Ende wird er Vierter. „Die Stimmung ist etwas betrübt – aber kein Vorwurf an Maxim van Gils“, sagt Ralph Denk, Teammanager von Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe. Mit Tom Pidcock griff unterdessen ein prominenter Name das Podium der Gesamtwertung an. Er rutschte von Rang elf vor auf Position vier. „Ich bin nie nervös geworden“, meint Denk dazu. Zu viel hat der Brite bisher „unfreiwillig“ im Gesamtklassement verloren. Im Hintergrund geht es um den Nachwuchs des Raublinger Teams. U19 und U23 haben speziell seit dem Einstieg von Red Bull eine große Priorität. Denk erklärt die Philosophie dahinter und wie das Team im besten Fall den nächsten Tour-Sieger hervorbringen möchte. Am vierzehnten Tag der Tour wird es richtig hart für die Fahrer. Le Markstein Fellering heißt die Bergankunft nach vier richtig harten Anstiegen. Letzte Chance für die Sprinter auf dem Weg nach Chalon-sur-Saône. So sah es Teammanager Ralph Denk voraus und genau so sollte es kommen. Nach einer flachen Etappe gewann Tim Melier bereits zum dritten Mal nach einem furiosen Finale inklusive Sturz. „Er ist der sprintstärkste Fahrer in diesem Jahr“, erkennt Denk neidlos an. Für seine Mannschaft war es ein eher ruhiger Tag. „Die Stimmung ist gut. Die Jungs fühlen sich gut … aber es kommen jetzt noch genug Berge, da wird es richtig ernst“, sagt der Teamchef. Im Hintergrund spricht Denk über die Entbehrungen im Radsport. So sprach beispielsweise Jonas Vingegaard vergangenes Jahr von einem möglichen Rücktritt. Denk ordnet die Herausforderungen für die Profis ein und erklärt die größten Unterschiede zu früheren Zeiten. Von Dole nach Belfort wird es hügeliger. 2400 Höhenmeter und 205 Kilometer kommen auf die Fahrer zu. Mit einem harten Anstieg am Ende. „Es könnte zwei Rennen geben, eines vorn für die Ausreißer und eines um das gelbe Trikot“, so Denk. „Für uns ist es wichtig, dass Remco und Florian gut durchkommen.“ IMAGO / Photo News

Für beide Kapitäne ist Denk voll des Lobes, auch für Florian Lipowitz. „Mega gut, wie er das macht. Auch, wie er inzwischen mit den Medien umgeht. Sportlich steckt da pure Kraft und sehr viel Talent dahinter. Und wir sprechen jetzt über Sekunden, in der dritten Woche wird es um Minuten gehen. Da habe ich ein sehr gutes Bauchgefühl bezüglich Florian“. Im letzten Teil geht es um die elfte Etappe, die am Mittwoch gefahren wird. 161 Kilometer müssen zwischen Vichy und Nevers zurückgelegt werden. „Ich gehe von einem Massensprint aus. This month's edition of the Race Communiqué with me, EF Education Easypost DS Tom Southam, and Jayco AlUla pro rider Luke Durbridge is the perfect pod to wrap up the racing we've just witnessed and get you in the mood for the big one!    We kick off this month's ep with our first listener question! That's right, we've been doing this for three years and we've finally got our first question! The Dauphine Tour Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes is the ultimate warm up race for the Tour de France, and it always provides a great insight into how the favourites are going, as well as giving us a bit of a sneak preview of some of the stages. With the big three - Pogi, Jonas, and Remco - all favouring altitude camps, the Dauph…..race was set to be a showdown between the young French hope Paul Seixas, UAE Emirates defector to Lidl Trek Juan Ayuso, and Pogi's Mexican prodigy Isaac Del Toro.    Things started with a bang for Tom's EF team with French superstar Alex Baudin taking the first stage and with it the yellow jersey, which they valiantly defended up until the final weekend. Young Aussie Luke Tuckwell put himself in the 60 rider breakaway on stage 6 and took over the lead of the race and, with Paul Seixas crashing hard on stage 7 and eventually abandoning at the start of the last day of racing, it was Tuckwell's to lose. In the end Isaac Del Toro was just too strong and took the overall victory by just under a minute on young Luke.    At just 21 years old, this is an absolutely massive breakthrough ride for Luke. He's out there swimming with the Dolphins in his first year pro! I was stoked to have a quick catch up with him and hear his thoughts on the race, and what this means for the rest of his summer.   Durbo's PeloChat is one for you data nerds out there. Last year, he said Tour de Suisse was the toughest stage race he's ever done, but this year's Tour Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes might just take the crown. He's going through the TrainingPeaks data to compare the races and categorically decide which was the bigger challenge. This isn't just about the training load, though; these races can be a real hot bed for sickness and - being so close to the Tour - if you get sick you could wreck your chances of a 3 week all expenses paid trip around France in July.   Talking Tactics time next, and Southam's going all in for the mega break. We've seen it a few times already this year; first at Liege and then again at the Dauphine, and it's starting to become a tactic that teams like EF and Uno X are banking on to bring home some big results. Full teamwork, everyone committed, reap the rewards.   Guys, this pod is an absolute banger.
