Life in the Peloton is proudly brought to you by MAAP Guys, the Dauphi…I mean the ‘Tour Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes' has just finished, which can mean only one thing; Le Tour is just around the corner! This month's edition of the Race Communiqué with me, EF Education Easypost DS Tom Southam, and Jayco AlUla pro rider Luke Durbridge is the perfect pod to wrap up the racing we've just witnessed and get you in the mood for the big one! We kick off this month's ep with our first listener question! That's right, we've been doing this for three years and we've finally got our first question! Remember, drop us an email at contact@lifeinthepeloton.com with your questions and we might just feature them on the pod! The Dauphine Tour Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes is the ultimate warm up race for the Tour de France, and it always provides a great insight into how the favourites are going, as well as giving us a bit of a sneak preview of some of the stages. With the big three - Pogi, Jonas, and Remco - all favouring altitude camps, the Dauph…..race was set to be a showdown between the young French hope Paul Seixas, UAE Emirates defector to Lidl Trek Juan Ayuso, and Pogi's Mexican prodigy Isaac Del Toro. Things started with a bang for Tom's EF team with French superstar Alex Baudin taking the first stage and with it the yellow jersey, which they valiantly defended up until the final weekend. Young Aussie Luke Tuckwell put himself in the 60 rider breakaway on stage 6 and took over the lead of the race and, with Paul Seixas crashing hard on stage 7 and eventually abandoning at the start of the last day of racing, it was Tuckwell's to lose. In the end Isaac Del Toro was just too strong and took the overall victory by just under a minute on young Luke. At just 21 years old, this is an absolutely massive breakthrough ride for Luke. He's out there swimming with the Dolphins in his first year pro! I was stoked to have a quick catch up with him and hear his thoughts on the race, and what this means for the rest of his summer. Durbo's PeloChat is one for you data nerds out there. Last year, he said Tour de Suisse was the toughest stage race he's ever done, but this year's Tour Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes might just take the crown. He's going through the TrainingPeaks data to compare the races and categorically decide which was the bigger challenge. This isn't just about the training load, though; these races can be a real hot bed for sickness and - being so close to the Tour - if you get sick you could wreck your chances of a 3 week all expenses paid trip around France in July. Talking Tactics time next, and Southam's going all in for the mega break. We've seen it a few times already this year; first at Liege and then again at the Dauphine, and it's starting to become a tactic that teams like EF and Uno X are banking on to bring home some big results. Full teamwork, everyone committed, reap the rewards. Guys, this pod is an absolute banger. I absolutely love chatting to Southam and Durbo when the race season really kicks off because they're both still out there amongst it, and their insight is just amazing. This is the kind of perspective I feel really privileged to be able to share with you all. Roll on July! Cheers, Mitch The Race Communiqué is brought to you by TrainingPeaks! Become a Supporter, and get ad free podcasts, your exclusive Applied science show every week, and access to our listener community, with all its insights and opinionsShow notesThe Football World Cup is underway, and hydration breaks have been one of the early storylines. We discuss whether they are a genuine player welfare initiative, or a (very) thinly veiled advertising slot, whether there will ever be evidence they are changing the dynamics of matches, the concept of momentum (real or imagined?), and why a combination of heat and end of season fatigue might explain some lacklustre performances so far?Teenage phenoms had mixed fortunes in the Diamond League last week. Cooper Lutkenhaus flew (literally, across the line) to another win, this time over the Olympic champion in the 800m, while Gout Gout stuttered in his Diamond League 200m debut. Gout partly bounced back in Ostrava, but he highlights again the challenge of unrealistic expectations. Speaking of Ostrava, Werro was fast again, while Bol impressed in her debut, but is, for now, a generation and 3 seconds behind the big two. Can she improve enough to legitimately challenge them, and what will it take for Werro and Hodgkinson to get closer to that WR, from a pacing and race strategy perspective? We discuss.A genuinely wild NCAA Championships in Eugene produced what might be the best single meeting of sprint performances in history, headlined by a shock 110m hurdles world record from 20 year old Ja'Kobe Tharp. We work through the collegiate records that fell in the 400, 200 and 100, and ask when next these athletes will run as fast as they did last week?Adaejah Hodge was one outstanding performer, clocking the 5th fastest time ever over 100m, a 10.63s. Her backstory asks some uncomfortable questions about a secret doping ban, a case resolution agreement, and a high school coach who was the target of the investigation. We unpack the details and ask whether the sport is getting the trade-offs right?Letrozole, fertility treatment, and an unusually candid announcement from double world champion Gudaf Tsegay explain why her four month doping suspension is one of the more sympathetic cases we have coveredRemco Evenepoel's threshold power numbers were revealed in his latest YouTube video, and we discuss what 425 watts for an hour actually means heading into the Tour de France, why durability rather than fresh power might decide the race, and why the one hour threshold power may be less of an issue for the Belgian than his 20 to 40 min climb powerAnd finally, some good news from the Discourse community: Supporter club member Sophie coached an athlete using some of the heat adaptation advice from our listener community to help prepare for altitude, and the athlete went on to win a European uphill running title by over two minutes Hosted on Acast. Johan Bruyneel and Spencer Martin break down the first six stages of the Tour Auvergne - Rhône-Alpes (aka Criterium du Dauphiné) and discuss how the upside-down GC situation, with pre-race favorites Paul Seixas and Isaac del Toro over three minutes down to relative unknown Luke Tuckwell, will play out heading into the final two brutal mountain stages. They also go through Remco Evenepoel's recent release of power numbers and debate whether his unorthodox lead-in to the Tour de France will pay off or lead to more stage-racing frustration.
From the notorious 4% Rotten Tomatoes "Steel" movie toys to the hidden history of Remco's legal battles with Mattel, we're diving deep into the weirdest corners of the 90s toy aisle. We breakdown why John is hunting for Shaquille O'Neal's John Henry Irons, the mystery of the "missing" Sinbad genie movie, and the insane $300 price tag on a carded Warrior Beast. Whether it's a vintage Star Wars Sigma mug Win or a yellowed blister pack Wiff, this episode is a nostalgia-fueled journey through the lines that time (and most collectors) forgot.

In Episode 366 of The Canine Paradigm, we start with Pat giving an update on Remco's health battle and what the last stretch has looked like. From there, we move into a conversation that matters for every dog owner who has ever felt overwhelmed by advice online. We unpack the trainers who claim they have the one method that works on every dog. We discuss why that promise is so appealing, why it sells, and why it usually fails in the real world. Dogs differ in genetics, history, learning style, and emotional resilience, so a single approach will never fit every case without adjustment. We also talk about the types of people these claims prey on, such as owners who feel desperate, guilty, or confused, and who want certainty more than they want complexity. At the same time, we explore the audience these trainers actually attract, including those who want identity, belonging, and a simple story that makes them feel safe. This episode is a reminder that good training is not about magic methods. It is about judgement, clarity, and adapting to the dog in front of you.

Life in the Peloton is proudly brought to you by MAAP Guys, the cobbled classics are over for another year - and what a Spring we've had! Although the cobbles may be behind us, we still have the Ardennes to look forward to over the next week! Who better to wrap up the cobbles and preview the Ardennes with than my old mates Luke Durbridge and Tom Southam right here on this month's Race Communiqué. We kick this month's episode off by rounding up the Spring so far; from Pogačar's dominance at Flanders right through to Van Aert's redemption at Paris Roubaix, there's been heaps of racing to get stuck into. One race I didn't manage to follow too closely was the Tour of the Basque Country, where young Paul Seixas absolutely dominated from start to finish. Fortunately, Southam was there on the ground in the EF team car, so he gives us the scoop from Spain, and just how good Seixas really is. The Ardennes classics have already kicked off, with Remco Evenepoel dusting Skjelmose in the sprint to win the Amstel Gold Race. Southam was in the convoy dealing with a unique….pretty gross situation that he's never come across in his career. Safe to say Remco's shape is ominous ahead of Liège - the 4th monument of the year - which is only a few days away. With Pog, Remco, and Seixas all on the start list it looks like we're in for an epic showdown. We go through the course and pick our favourites. Durbo's just got back after a few days off the bike following Paris Roubaix, and that's what this month's PeloChat is all about; keeping mentally fresh and taking time away from cycling. As you all know by now, Luke's just announced that he's hanging up the wheels after national champs in January 2027. He's riding out a long, distinguished career of 15 years - so this advice is worth listening to. Talking Tactics is all about that head to head to head we're getting hyped about at Liège-Bastogne-Liège; how do Remco and Seixas overthrow Pogi who, on paper, is probably the favourite. Southam gives us his thoughts. Finally - of course - it's the Communiquiz; this month I'm quiz master and we're talking monuments. Who's DNF'd more monuments; me, Durbo, or Southam? You'll have to listen to find out. The cobbles may have finished but there's still heaps of great racing to enjoy, so give this ep a listen and get hyped up for the Ardennes. Not long to go until we can talk Grand Tours, and the Giro - Mama Mia, that's come around fast! Cheers, Mitch The Race Communiqué is brought to you by TrainingPeaks! Daniel Friebe and Lionel Birnie return for another spring Classic review, this time focusing on Remco Evenepoel's surgical performance and victory in Amstel Gold Race at the weekendWe examine how Remco learned from his near-miss last time around and pick out some of the other notable displays from Sunday's race. It's then time to look forward to the true Ardennes Classics, which kick off with Flèche Wallonne on Wednesday. Daniel has an intriguing theory about why Paul Seixas may struggle on the Mur de Huy, while Lionel wonders whether Tom Pidcock may have made a wise choice by skipping Flèche altogether. Today on the show: Evenepoel won a sprint, Jorgenson won a trip to Herentals, and we have some sponsor-correct podium beers to analyse.
