Economy, planet, markets and you Drifting in the Central North Pacific Ocean is the “Great Pacific Garbage Patch”, a collection of marine debris with a mass so large it has been ranked as our eighth continent. Nature is “circular by design” - balanced and sustainable - but our modern lifestyle is simply not. While recycling efforts are increasing, coupled with government policies and regulations, we must consider if ‘recycling' is rightly positioned as the last stage in the ‘Reduce, Reuse and Recycle' slogan. In this episode, Kokou Agbo-Bloua examines the circular economy and the plastic lifecycle. He brings in Daan Van Kassel, a fund manager at Circular Debt fund of Polestar Capital, to explore concrete ways to reduce plastic and become one with nature.

In this week's episode, we bring you in-depth commentary and audio clips from the final three gigs of Night Demon's September 2022 European run. These shows - all in Germany - were in the towns of Schrobenhausen, Kassel and Trier. You'll hear about a freezing cold performance in a tent late at night, as well as Night Demon's long and triumphant history in Kassel, and what it was like to play "Satan" in a church-owned youth hall in a town they had never played before. You'll also get the lowdown on how the band almost missed their flight from Frankfurt in the early morning after the Trier gig. The episode concludes with Jarvis, Armand and Dusty touching down in Montreal to commence the "Canada or Bust" leg of the tour. Become a subscriber today at nightdemon.net/subscriber. Alcuni nomi: Giorgio Armani, Gae Aulenti, Joseph Beuys, Giorgio Bocca, Roberto Calasso, Gillo Dorfles, Umberto Eco, Inge Feltrinelli, Dario Fo, Carla Fracci, Allen Ginsberg, Krizia, Vico Magistretti, Enzo Mari, Marcello Mastroianni, Ottavio Missoni, Bruno Munari, Fernanda Pivano, Gio Ponti, Miuccia Prada, Ettore Sottsass, Giorgio Strehler, Ornella Vanoni, Lea Vergine, Luigi Veronesi, Gianni Versace, Andy Warhol.

Nel 1969 gli artisti immaginarono il progetto Wrapped Trees, Project for Avenue des Champs- Élysées and the Rond Point des Champs-Élysée a Parigi, anch'esso mai realizzato. Wrapped Monument to Leonardo e Wrapped Monument to Vittorio Emanuele II (1970) ebbero entrambi vita breve: rispettivamente due e sette giorni.
Sanna Almajedi talks to Jad and Tarek Atoui about their experimental music duo, Through Rust and Dusk. The conversation is followed by an excerpt of their performance at e-flux on September 26, 2022 that incorporated improvisation, custom made instruments, field recordings, and electronic sounds. Read more about Tarek Atoui‘s The Whisperers (October 1–December 10, 2022) at Flag Art Foundation here. Jad Atoui is a Beirut-based sound artist and improviser. He composes and performs electronicand electro-acoustic music and has worked with musicians like John Zorn, Pauline Oliveros, Laurie Anderson, Chuck Bettis, and Anthony Sahyoun. During his formative years in New York, Atoui found interest in the New York avant-garde scene. He began working closely with NYC downtown musicians and learning improvised music techniques, while also working at the Stone and the Guggenheim Museum. In 2015, Atoui spearheaded the “Biosonics” project in collaboration with scientist Ivan Marazzi where they used bio-sonification of behaviors as compositional tools. The project was later published in John Zorn's Arcana Book Vol. XVIII and premiered at National Sawdust as part of The Stone's commissioning series. Atoui has given and co-directed workshops at Marfa Sounding, Ashkal Alwan, and Beirut Synth Center, and has been a resident at The Stone, The National Sawdust, Beirut Art Center, Arab Image Foundation, and Sharjah Art Foundation. Tarek Atoui is an artist and composer born in Beirut. His work stems from performance and looks into how sound can be perceived with sensory organs other than the ear, how sound acts as a catalyst for human interaction, and how it relates to social, historical, and spatial parameters. The point of departure for his works is usually extensive anthropological, ethnological, musicological, or technical research, which results in the realization of instruments, listening rooms, performances, or workshops. Atoui has presented his work internationally at the Sharjah Biennial in the United Arab Emirates (2009 and 2013); dOCUMENTA 13 in Kassel, Germany (2012); the 8th Berlin Biennial (2014); Tate Modern, London (2016); CCA NTU, Singapore (2017); Garage Moscow (2018); the 58th International Art Exhibition of la Biennale di Venezia (2019); the Okayama Art Summit 2019; the Sharjah Art Foundation (2020); The Fridericianum (2020); And Pinault Collection (2021). He was appointed co-artistic director of STEIM studios in 2007, and of the Bergen Assembly, a triennial for contemporary art in Norway in 2016. He is the recipient of the Suzanne Deal Booth / FLAG Art Foundation Prize 2020. Tarek Atoui currently lives and works in Paris, France. e-flux music is curated by Sanna Almajedi.

This year was a big one for biennials with the Whitney Biennial in New York, the Venice Biennale in Italy and Documenta in Kassel, Germany as well as many, many more. Earlier this year, our team at Artnet analyzed hundreds of these exhibitions over the past five years to identify the biggest stars of the biennial circuit. As we gear up for the fall art season, we thought it would be useful to revisit the episode where national art critic, Ben Davis and Europe editor, Kate brown, discuss the surprising findings.
