EDITORIAL NOTE: Clubroot is not really mutating (as stated in the introduction). The pathogen in a field, with high spore loads, will consist of many different pathotypes or stains. How many, we don't know. But it appears that there will be some pathotypes there that resistance does not work against. It is these pathotypes that will be able increase when resistant varieties are used.
