Farm Credit Canada says, all things considered, 2020 was a pretty good year for Canadian agriculture and food exporters. Chief Economist J.P. Gervais will tell us how Canada's agriculture and food industry has shown resilience during the pandemic and has the potential to emerge from this even stronger. Canada had the highest year-over-year increase for agriculture commodity exports at 13.8 per cent. Even with challenges on the road ahead, Gervais says the sector is looking very strong. The canola crop is now in the bin; the Canola Council of Canada is taking the opportunity to remind producers about growing clubroot-resistant canola and the steps needed to keep disease spores from spreading. Canola Council of Canada agronomy specialist Autumn Barnes will talk about the newly created infographics for farmers to help them tackle clubroot and strategies for planning for next year's crop. Clubroot has been confirmed in Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba, and can cause yield losses between 30 and 100 per cent. Sanitation, crop rotation, using resistant cultivars, and managing susceptible weeds are all useful strategies in the clubroot toolbox to mitigate infection, but what other strategies are there, and how effective are they for controlling clubroot... Using clubroot resistant genetics and lengthening rotations are highly recommended practices for managing clubroot on the Prairies. When it comes to growing canola, clubroot is the disease that really can be detrimental to crop yield, and detrimental to future crops if not managed properly. Canola Council agronomist Dan Orchard and central Alberta farmer Scott Keller join host Dean Thorpe in studio for a discussion on clubroot and an update on clubroot resistance. EDITORIAL NOTE: Clubroot is not really mutating (as stated in the introduction). The pathogen in a field, with high spore loads, will consist of many different pathotypes or stains. How many, we don't know. But it appears that there will be some pathotypes there that resistance does not work against. It is these pathotypes that will be able increase when resistant varieties are used.

Panda launches the first installment of his new Lounge Mix Show on YouTube with special guest Hiatus. Hailing from Brixton, UK with an Iranian heritage, Hiatus' musical start began when he learnt to play the piano at the age of five. At university, Hiatus played keyboard in a band called Holy Smoke and then quickly moved on, getting into dance music and actually started to DJ drum and bass - another reason for having him on the show of course ;) Hiatus self-describes his music as a type of cinematic electronica. It has heavy ambient and chill out influences but luckily does not fall back in to the cliché sounds of lounge. In fact, most of his tracks have a rather deep melodramatic and dark atmosphere about them. Hiatus' work also has a distinct Middle Eastern tint to it and that's for a reason: he travels back to Iran every year to look for records to bring back and sample those in his music. Last year after hearing her sing in a live show, Hiatus started working with Shura, a singer from London, who he now delivered masterpieces with such as "Fortune's Fool" and "River", both featuring in this mix and coming out on October, 10th, 2011. They are now doing live performances together and working actively on new tracks. In this mix, Hiatus bring us 14 of his and latest tracks, remixes and exclusives in an almost 1 hour long mix.
