What a wild week it's been for NASA. With drastic budget cuts looming—pending any action by Congress—then comes the sudden and unexpected pulling of Jared Isaacman for the role of NASA Administrator, with no replacement named. Then came the very public split between President Trump and Elon Musk, and a flurry of furious Twitter/X and Truth Social postings, aimed at each other with razor-sharp edges. And finally, the proposed and drastic cuts to NASA outreach and education budgets, slimming them to nearly nothing. These are strange and concerning times for America's space agency, a premier global brand and icon of peaceful American prowess. Today the Late Crew discusses the Astronaut Hall of Fame (07:02), how the Pentagon wants troops to change duty stations less often (20:36), the Navy is ending experiments using cats and dogs as test subjects (31:55), the passing of Loretta Swit and our favorite M.A.S.H. moments (41:00), and Ed White becomes the first American to walk in space on 3 Jun (49:43).
Before astronauts could land and walk on the Moon, NASA had to be sure they could do three things: live in space for days at a time, catch and link up with other spacecraft, and work outside their ship. And it took stabs at two of those goals 60 years ago today, with a mission called Gemini 4. [AUDIO: 3, 2, 1, Ignition … Liftoff …] Astronauts James McDivitt and Ed White were scheduled to spend four days in space. That was longer than the first seven American missions combined. And White would make the first American spacewalk. He’d float outside the cabin for a few minutes, using a small “gun” of compressed air to move around. And three and a half hours after launch, it was time to get started: CAPCOM: Gemini 4, Hawaii capcom. We just had word from Houston, we’re ready to have you get out whenever you’re ready. Okay, my feet are out. … Okay, I’m out. The spacewalk went well – very well. [WHITE: I feel like a million dollars!] In fact, it went so well that White didn’t want it to end. HOUSTON: The flight director says get back in! McDIVITT: This is Jim, you got any message for us? CAPCOM: Gemini 4, get back in! McDIVITT: Okay… Actually working during a spacewalk turned out to be a lot harder than White had made it look. It took several more missions to work out the kinks. But the success of Gemini 4 helped make it possible for astronauts to walk on the Moon just four years later. Script by Damond Benningfield

My special guest is L.A. Marzulli who's here to discuss what he thinks the alien phenomena really is and why everyone should be worried. This book exposes the UFO phenomena, alien abductions, cattle mutilations, alien implants, and direct contact. It postulates that these are interdimensional beings not entities from another planet. It further exposes what may be the coming great deception as prophesied in the Bible. Some sightings involving astronauts or NASA include: During the Gemini 4 mission, pilot Jim McDivitt spotted an object that he described as a "white cylindrical shape with a white pole sticking out of one corner of it." He took two pictures of it. His partner, Ed White, was asleep at the time.[5] McDivitt maintains that it was some unknown but man-made piece of debris, while James Oberg argues that it was most likely the Titan II second stage of the craft.[6] In a transcript of Gemini 7 mission, the astronauts mention a "bogey" which ufologists have claimed was a reference to a UFO.[7] Oberg, based on his trajectory analysis of the mission, describes the astronauts' comments about a "bogey" as referring to booster-associated debris, and not a reference to some sort of UFO.[8] The astronaut who made the comments, Frank Borman, later confirmed that what he saw was not a UFO, and that when he offered to go on the television show Unsolved Mysteries to clarify, the producers told him, "Well, I'm not sure we want you on the program."[7] Within the UFO community, stories have spread that Neil Armstrong was reported to have witnessed multiple UFOs during Apollo 11.[9] An explanation was that the sightings could have been attributed to jettisoned components. Additional stories were accredited to a hoax spread by science fiction writer Otto Binder.[1] Buzz Aldrin says his words were taken out of context from an interview in 2005 about the incident.[3] During a 2005 spacewalk outside the International Space Station, astronaut Leroy Chiao reported seeing lights in a formation he described as "in a line" and "almost like an upside-down check mark".[4] The incident was promoted as a possible UFO sighting in the television series Are We Alone?.[4]Chiao later identified the lights as being from fishing boats "hundreds of miles below".[4] In August 2013, according to NASA TV, astronaut Christopher Cassidy saw a UFO float past the International Space Station near its Progress 52 cargo ship.[10] It was soon identified by Russian flight controllers as an antenna cover from the Zvezda service module.[10] On August 19, 2020, Cosmonaut Ivan Vagner posted a video on Twitter featuring UFOs on a time lapse he recorded of the Aurora Australis. Vagner dubbed the objects "space guests" with Roscosmos quote tweeting Vagner to say “An interesting and at the same time mysterious video made by the cosmonaut of Roscosmos Ivan Wagner from the International Space Station.”Follow Our Other ShowsFollow UFO WitnessesFollow Crime Watch WeeklyFollow Paranormal FearsFollow Seven: Disturbing Chronicle StoriesJoin our Patreon for ad-free listening and more bonus content.Follow us on Instagram @mysteriousradioFollow us on TikTok mysteriousradioTikTok Follow us on Twitter @mysteriousradio Follow us on Pinterest pinterest.com/mysteriousradio Like us on Facebook Facebook.com/mysteriousradio

Welcome to another episode of Fratello On Air. This time, we discuss exit watches after receiving a great topic request from one of our favorite listeners. It's a familiar theme we may have touched upon before. Let's see if our collective tastes have changed. For our listeners, watch content starts after eight minutes.Exit watches are a touchy subject. Some folks believe in the ultimate watch and the end of collecting. Admittedly, neither of us can picture an end to the hunt. Still, we will play along and discuss the watches that could send us out in style. A big thanks to Richard for the topic suggestion!HandgelenkskontrolleWe're short on banter this week as Balazs is sweating it out in Hungary and nearly 40 degrees Celsius. Mike is shivering in England where 20 degrees and the sun would be a nice start to the summer. Before, discussing our exit watches, we divert our attention to the Handgelenkskontrolle. Balazs is wearing his mighty 38mm Gallet Multichron 12 with an EP40 movement. Mike is debuting a relatively new acquisition, a Longines 9ct gold dress watch with a lovely engraving on the case back. The '60s time-only piece uses the 19.4 caliber and is in barely-worn condition.Exit watchesExit watches supposedly represent the pinnacle of collecting. It also means there's nothing left to purchase after acquiring one of these pieces. We can't fathom such a scenario, but we've pulled together the watches that fit the description. Each of us has listed three and as you'll see, there's no theme. One brand, however, does make each of our lists. We discuss the following watches:Patek Philippe 3970, a perpetual calendar chronographPatek Philippe 1463, the Borgel case waterproof chronographAngelus Chrono-Datoluxe, a vintage chronograph with a day-date and moonphase complicationGrand Seiko VFA 6185-8000/8010, a rare palladium silver watch with amazing accuracyOmega Speedmaster 105.003, the "Ed White" and the last vintage straight-lug SpeedyRolex Submariner 5513 gilt dial, a '60s beauty with an old-world dial and classic case designWe hope you enjoyed our picks and we're excited to hear about your exit watches in the comments section below! Thank you for listening and thanks to Richard for the show suggestion! If you have any ideas for future topics, please let us know.

Tonight, my special guest is author Ryan Walters who's here to discuss his book Apollo 1: The Tragedy That Put Us On The Moon. On January 27, 1967, astronauts Gus Grissom, Ed White, and Roger Chaffee climbed into a new spacecraft perched atop a large Saturn rocket at Kennedy Space Center in Florida for a routine dress rehearsal of their upcoming launch into orbit, then less than a month away. All three astronauts were experienced pilots and had dreams of one day walking on the moon. But little did they know, nor did anyone else, that once they entered the spacecraft that cold winter day they would never leave it alive. The Apollo program would be perilously close to failure before it ever got off the ground. But rather than dooming the space program, this tragedy caused the spacecraft to be completely overhauled, creating a stellar flying machine to achieve the program’s primary goal: putting man on the moon. Apollo 1 is a candid portrayal of the astronauts, the disaster that killed them, and its aftermath. In it, readers will learn: How the Apollo 1 spacecraft was doomed from the start, with miles of uninsulated wiring and tons of flammable materials in a pure oxygen atmosphere, along with a hatch that wouldn’t open How, due to political pressure, the government contract to build the Apollo 1 craft went to a bidder with an inferior plan How public opinion polls were beginning to turn against the space program before the tragedy and got much worse after Apollo 1 is about America fulfilling its destiny of man setting foot on the moon. It’s also about the three American heroes who lost their lives in the tragedy, but whose lives were not lost in vain. Show Us Some Love! In 1965, during the Gemini 4 mission, astronaut Ed White became the first American to spacewalk. While it was a historic moment, it was also nerve-wracking as it was a brand-new and untested endeavor. In 2013, Italian astronaut Luca Parmitano faced a terrifying situation as his helmet started filling with water during a spacewalk, prompting an immediate return to the ISS. The 1984 spacewalk by Bruce McCandless, using the Manned Maneuvering Unit, showcased breathtaking views but also highlighted the isolation and potential dangers of untethered spacewalks. #brightside Credit: NASA Animation is created by Bright Side. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Music by Epidemic Sound https://www.epidemicsound.com Check our Bright Side podcast on Spotify and leave a positive review! https://open.spotify.com/show/0hUkPxD... Over the past half century, the semiconductor technology landscape has been evolving rapidly, underpinning the digital transformations we witness across the various spheres of life today. Sometimes referred to as integrated circuits or microchips, semiconductors are the backbone of modern electronics. In devices of every type, from simple gadgets to complex systems like computers, cars and household appliances, semiconductors have led to them being smaller or faster or more reliable. More inconspicuously, semiconductors are now enabling innovations in healthcare to flourish. One company, imec, stands as a vanguard in this area. Their work promises to enable smart health concepts such as precision medicine and genomics to be brought within everyone's reach, resulting in personalized treatments with better outcomes and lower costs. Joining the latest episode of the “Ideas to Innovation Season 3” podcast from Clarivate is Peter Peumans, Chief Technology Officer - Healthcare Technologies and Senior Fellow at Belgium-based imec. He and Ed White of Clarivate discuss how innovations in semiconductors led imec to be named one of 36 companies in this year's Innovators to Watch report from Clarivate. The report – guided by Ed in his role as vice president and principal analyst for IP and Innovation Research at Clarivate –identifies organizations that demonstrate both exceptional potential and above-the-bar innovation excellence.
Russell "Rusty" Schweikart grew up with a great interest in aviation and watching the planes fly around Lakehurst Naval Air Station in New Jersey. SKIP TO 00:29:31 TO GET TO THIS WEEK'S STORY Welcome to Episode 137 of Let's Get Haunted! On July 20, 1969, the United States Apollo 11 Mission made history when two of its astronauts - Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin - became the first humans to ever set foot on the moon. Though Apollo 11 is perhaps the most well-known of the Apollo Program's missions, it never would've been possible without its predecessors. Astronauts Gus Grissom, Ed White, and Roger Chaffee were the three brave astronauts assigned to the first of these historic spaceflights: Apollo 1. A critical moment along the Space Race timeline, Apollo 1 represented the first phase of NASA's project to put men on the moon before the Soviets. When all 3 of these astronauts shockingly perished in a fire during a mock launch exercise, rumors and conspiracy theories began to swirl. Were their brutal deaths an accident? Or were Grissom, White, and Chaffee murdered? When a whistleblower mysteriously ended up dead after testifying in front of Congress, suspicions only deepened. Join us as we explore the winding unsolved mystery known as the Apollo 1 Conspiracy!
