Today we are joined by our friend David Peterka, from When the Saints. David will give an update on the work his organization is doing. Then will talk to us about what Jesus says about loving those we don't really want to love.
Malawi has a population of 15 million people and is ranked one of the poorest and, at the same time, one of the most friendly countries in the world. In the district of Dowa, there are about 300,000 people. It is an area that covers 20 x 30 miles. In 2010, there were 3,459 documented cases of sexual abuse. Out of those cases only 39 men were prosecuted for an average of 2-3 years. The average age of the girls was 12-13 years old.To date, When the Saints has built the only long term housing facility in the country aimed at holistically rehabilitating those who have been sexually abused.
There is such thing as modern-day slavery, and it is called human trafficking. Countless thousands are being sexually exploited and victimized every single day and the Lord's heart breaks for those oppressed by this perverse evil. But God is raising up not only awareness of this injustice but also individuals with a mandate to see this wickedness eradicated in the earth. Pray is essential and it always begins with prayer, but action must ensue if we are to see an end to this. On this episode of Awaken Podcast, Michael Lombardo speaks with David Peterka, the founder of When the Saints, a missions organization in Malawi, Africa. Their sole ambition is to rescue those oppressed by sexual exploitation but also to preach Christ and see freedom for the oppressor so they can see an ultimate end to trafficking in their country.
