In this episode of the PCOS Repair Podcast, you'll discover why it's not only possible, but highly likely, that you have more than one root cause contributing to your PCOS symptoms. From insulin resistance to chronic inflammation, stress response, and hormone and nutrient disruption, PCOS rarely stems from just one issue. This episode walks you through how to identify your dominant root cause while acknowledging that other contributing factors may also be playing a role. Why Identifying a Primary Root Causes MattersAlthough most women with PCOS have overlapping root causes, identifying your primary one helps guide your efforts more effectively. Within this episode, you'll learn how focusing your energy on the most active root cause can give you the biggest results, rather than spreading yourself thin by trying to fix everything at once. You'll also hear examples of how insulin-related symptoms can overshadow others, making it essential to focus where you'll see the most progress.Navigating Combinations of Root CausesWhen quiz results or symptoms point to more than one dominant root cause, it can be confusing to know where to start. In this episode, you'll learn how to prioritize your primary root cause without ignoring the others. The discussion includes how overlapping causes, like insulin imbalance paired with stress, require a strategic approach, and how addressing one often leads to improvement in others as well. You'll also discover how to pair your PCOS root cause(s) with your primary health goals, whether it's weight loss, fertility, more energy, or better cycles. This episode guides you through the process of designing a personalized strategy based on your root cause assessment, your most pressing symptoms, and your lifestyle. You'll hear how even small, consistent changes can help your body start healing and create momentum over time. You can take the quiz to discover your root cause hereLet's continue the conversation on Instagram! Thank you for joining us for our 2nd Cabral HouseCall of the weekend! I'm looking forward to sharing with you some of our community's questions that have come in over the past few weeks… Ashley: Hi Dr, Cabral, thank you for everything you do and for sharing your knowledge. I'm a little confused on how to repair and keep the gut healthy. It seems like there might be proper steps in the process? Can you explain what to do first when you are trying to clean up your gut and then maintain a healthy gut in terms of when to take pro and prebiotics, adding fermented foods, what does that process look like from the start. Thanks Gina: Hi Dr. Cabral! I am almost 3 years in remission from breast cx which was discovered at age 32, 6 months post partum. I've been placed on hormone blocking therapy to suppress estrogen, but I am considering coming off to try to have a second child. Limited studies suggest there is not an increased risk of recurrence with pregnancies, which I don't understand but hope is true. I was hoping you had guidance with how to give my body the best chance at pregnancy after meds as I have a small window & want to set myself up for success. I do level 1 protocol & immunity, have done FM & heavy metal detoxes, CBO & mold protocols this year. I also had pre eclampsia in my first pregnancy & hoping to avoid that again. Thanks so much & I know you can't give medical advice or treatment plans :) Chris: Dr Cabral, we are forever grateful for you, Erica, Julia & your entire EquiLife Team for helping us identify and heal from toxic mold. We are now vigilantes with Air Quality - including IQ Airs throughout out our home and cars. We found a company and product called WellisAir purifiers that we bought in addition to using the IQAirs throughout our home. It complements IQAir (or the AirDoctors you use) as they act differently. Have you heard of WellisAir company's devices/technology and of so have you considered doing a Friday Review on it? Looking forward to your expert opinion and analysis on this. TY! Note: I am not affiliated with the company, just an enthusiastic user and if this is as good as we think it is then I ohope by sharing this it helps others in your health community. Thanks for your consideration. Janna: Hello, I need help. I've been struggling with insomnia for the last 1.5 months. I'm not sure what is causing it as it seems I am doing everything right I eat, Whole Foods, I Fast. I do strength training 3x a week. I'm not sure what is causing this chronic stress as I wake up around 1-3am with very bad dreams and even though I feel tired, my body doesn't allow me to go back to sleep. "Our goal is to get you to the point where you can tolerate more foods with less pain and you can live your life. You can go on vacation and you can have some chips and guac or whatever, and you can be okay." - Hannah Aylward Hannah Aylward's journey from chronic gut dysfunction to functional gut health practitioner mirrors what so many of us experience in our 40s and beyond - doing everything "right" yet still struggling with mysterious digestive issues. Her story resonates deeply because she discovered that healing isn't just about elimination diets or avoiding certain foods forever. It's about getting to the root cause of the root cause. Hannah shares why gut problems are more prevalent than ever, how stress, toxin exposure, and even birth control pills contribute to digestive dysfunction, and most importantly, how to actually heal your gut so you can enjoy food freedom again. This conversation will shift your perspective from fearing foods to understanding that your body can become resilient enough to handle life's imperfections while maintaining optimal health. What you'll learn: Why gut problems are more prevalent now than ever, including the role of chronic stress, environmental toxins, and hormonal disruptions The advanced functional testing that reveals what's really happening in your digestive system beyond basic elimination diets How to distinguish between true food sensitivities and underlying gut dysfunction that makes you reactive to healthy foods The connection between gut health and seemingly unrelated symptoms like brain fog, skin issues, anxiety, and thyroid problems Why popular dietary trends like low FODMAP, carnivore, and extreme restriction often miss the mark for long-term healing The role of microbiome diversity and specific beneficial bacteria like Akkermansia in maintaining gut barrier function How to address SIBO, leaky gut, and fat maldigestion without relying solely on prescription antibiotics A balanced perspective on controversial topics like oxalates, histamines, and lectins - and when restriction might actually be harmful Love the Podcast? We all know gluten affects digestion, but did you know it could be weakening your bones? In this episode, I'm joined by my husband, Dr. Craig Bissinger, a functional medicine physician who shares his experience on how gluten can silently contribute to osteoporosis and other health issues. We explain the chain reaction: gluten damages the gut, leading to inflammation, which in turn impairs nutrient absorption and ultimately affects the bones. We also discuss how common gluten sensitivity is (even without obvious symptoms), why “leaky gut” is more serious than it sounds, and what you can do to protect your bone health, starting with your gut. If you've been dealing with unexplained bone loss or are looking to get to the root causes of osteoporosis, this episode may offer the insight you've been missing. Food addiction isn't about willpower. It's about biology. This week's guest, Dr. David A. Kessler, pulls back the curtain on GLP-1 drugs, the medications everyone's talking about but few truly understand. As a former FDA Commissioner, bestselling author of Diet, Drugs, and Dopamine, and someone who has personally used Ozempic, Dr. David reveals what pharmaceutical companies aren't telling you about how they actually work.David shares his own journey with GLP-1 medications, the science behind why they're so effective, and the critical conversations we're not having about safety, proper use, and what happens when you stop taking them.Through science, candor, and vulnerability, he explains:Why food addiction is real, and how it rewires the reward circuits of the brainHow GLP-1 drugs like Ozempic are changing the conversation about obesity and self-blameWhy “just eat less” doesn't work… and never didHow visceral fat creates an invisible storm of inflammation, starting in childhoodAnd what it means to actually change your relationship with food for goodDr Kessler doesn't offer a magic solution. He offers tools: from nutritional rewiring to behavioral insight, from emotional honesty to policy change.Ultimately, he reminds us that health isn't about being perfect. It's about understanding what drives us, learning how to interrupt the cycle, and reclaiming agency in a world designed to overwhelm it.Real healing isn't about restriction. It's about relief. It's not about weight. It's about freedom.Love,Sarah Ann

Leave an Amazon Rating or Review for my New York Times Bestselling book, Make Money Easy! The most dangerous trend in mental health today isn't anxiety itself—it's how we've been taught to think about it. Dr. Caroline Leaf, a leading neuroscientist and author of "Help in a Hurry," reveals why 100% of people experience anxiety and how the current medical model of labeling and diagnosing mental health "disorders" creates more harm than healing. Through groundbreaking research spanning 40 years, she shares her most vulnerable discovery: we are 99% mind and 1% brain, making every thought we think a physical force that either builds or destroys our cellular health. What if aging weren't an inevitable decline? Today, we challenge the conventional "sick care" model, presenting a new paradigm where the goal isn't just to treat disease, but to deconstruct the aging process itself and optimize for a state of vibrant wellness. In this episode, hosts Dr. Emmie Brown, ND, and Melissa Gentile, INHC, sit down with Dr. Jeffrey Gladden, a board-certified interventional cardiologist who transitioned into longevity and performance medicine. Dr. Gladden shares his personal health journey in his fifties, facing exhaustion, brain fog, and depression, which led him to reject the notion that his symptoms were just a normal part of getting older. This pivotal moment launched him into a deep dive to reverse his own conditions, ultimately inspiring him to shift his practice from "sick care" to true healthcare focused on optimizing health and longevity.Key Takeaways from Today's Episode:
There is 1 common cause of sleep issues that is often overlooked and completely explains why you're sleeping restlessly and waking up all night long and also have other symptoms such as frequent urination, muscle and joint pain, sinus congestion, gut issues and more. I'm talking about mold toxicity. In this episode, I talk to Meryl who has had sleep issues for as long as she can remember. She falls asleep at 8 p.m. because she's so exhausted but she wakes up off and on throughout the night and is totally awake by 4am.She's done multiple functional labs and yet they didn't uncover what I found in the simple assessment she filled out for the call. She wasn't aware that this one major factor could be causing all of her symptoms! She already had looked into what was causing her sleep issues but at least one crucial piece of the puzzle has been missing until now!Mold episode link00:00 Introduction to Sleep Issues00:23 Meet Meryl: A Case Study01:30 Meryl's Sleep Patterns and Challenges03:30 Exploring Potential Causes09:44 Mold Toxicity and Its Impact12:04 Testing and Recommendations15:19 Meryl's Insights and Discoveries18:38 Conclusion and Next Steps

My oldest struggled with eczema from time to time, but when our house presented us with a toxic mold issue, he really flared up.It was the worst we'd ever seen, and after 3 weeks of completely ditching gluten, dairy, and sugar (by his own choice and motivation), nothing had changed. It was heartbreaking!I can only imagine how tough it is for parents of toddlers with eczema who can't even communicate their pain.My guest today digs DEEP into eczema and all the potential root causes, the importance of testing, and the wide variety of pathways to healing individual children might need. She says a lot of parents do research and get really really close to the answer their kids needs…and then get stuck. That's where she comes in.Here is just a tiny preview of what we'll touch on:“Parasites overgrow in the body when there is a toxic burden!”“Bowel movements are the primary elimination pathway in the body.”“If kids are not having a bowel movement daily, figure out WHY that's happening!”“Mold impacts the way the brain functions and communicates with the GI tract.”“Elimination depends on pooping, liver function, kidney function.”“If kids have skin issues, it's typically a sign that there's a liver stagnation issue - like the body is pulling the emergency brake.”If your little darlings are struggling with eczema or other skin issues, or you know someone who needs this podcast, don't hesitate to hit play or pass it on!Resources We Mentioned for Eczema in KidsDeidre's book: Toxic Infertility: Detoxification Solutions to Improve Natural Fertility: Amazon, BookshopGet to the root of eczemaHealing inflammation from the inside outFind Deidre onlineWork with her for pediatric GI healing and skin healthFollow her on social media: Instagram, Facebook, (her other Instagram focusing on infertility)Join us for free #LifeSkillsNow camp this summer! Happy Wednesday, Heal Squad! We're back with Part 2 of our fascinating conversation with the Medical Medium, Anthony William, and this one's a deep dive into some of the most misunderstood chronic conditions. Anthony pulls back the curtain on anxiety, depression, autoimmune issues, and why so many people are suffering in silence without clear answers. He explains how symptoms we often blame on “stress” or “genetics” may be signs of deeper imbalances, from viral infections and heavy metal toxicity to adrenal fatigue and a sluggish liver. We also explore the power of healing foods like celery juice and wild blueberries, and how small, daily changes can create major shifts in your energy, brain fog, and emotional resilience. It's time to reclaim your power and become your own health advocate, tune in! HEALERS & HEAL-LINERS: Anxiety isn't always mental. It can be a physical signal of viral or toxic overload. Cleaning up your diet and supporting your nervous system may help where medications fall short. Autoimmune isn't your body turning on itself. Anthony shares how viruses and toxins (not self-destruction) are the real culprits behind so many misdiagnosed chronic conditions. Celery juice isn't just trendy, it's transformational. Starting your day with celery juice can help flush toxins, support digestion, and restore clarity to your mind and body. -- HEAL SQUAD SOCIALS IG: https://www.instagram.com/healsquad/ TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@healsquadxmaria HEAL SQUAD RESOURCES: Heal Squad Website:https://www.healsquad.com/ Heal Squad x Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/HealSquad/membership Maria Menounos Website: https://www.mariamenounos.com My Curated Macy's Page: Shop My Macy's Storefront Prenuvo: Prenuvo.com/MARIA for $300 off Delete Me: https://bit.ly/43rkHwi code: SQUAD EMR-Tek Red Light: https://emr-tek.com/discount/Maria30 for 30% off Airbnb: https://www.airbnb.com/ Join In-Person Heal Retreat Waitlist! https://mariamenounos.myflodesk.com/heal-retreat-waitlist THE MEDICAL MEDIUM RESOURCES: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/medicalmedium/?hl=en Website: https://www.medicalmedium.com/ Find Anthony's books (& some of my other favorites!) here: https://shopmy.us/collections/106835 ABOUT MARIA MENOUNOS: Emmy Award-winning journalist, TV personality, actress, 2x NYT best-selling author, former pro-wrestler and brain tumor survivor, Maria Menounos' passion is to see others heal and to get better in all areas of life. We're switching things up this episode. Instead of our usual stories about women in history, we're pausing to bring awareness to Chronic Spontaneous Urticaria (aka chronic hives). Nicole is opening up about her deeply personal ongoing health journey that's basically become her personality over the last 10 months. Hives can be triggered by a wide range of issues, which makes them an incredibly frustrating and mysterious condition. They're often a symptom of something deeper happening in the body. In Nicole's case, the hives took over her entire body—not the tiny, bug-bite-style ones, but massive, intensely itchy welts from head to toe. She's tried nearly everything: parasite treatments, supplements, antibiotics, Xolair, prednisone, and even a grueling cleanse. While she's experienced moments of relief, the hives keep coming back and they like to switch it up every time. If you've ever felt isolated in your health struggles, been dismissed by doctors, or left without answers, this episode is for you. Nicole's not a doctor and isn't offering medical advice, just an honest account of her experience, in hopes of finding answers or supporting someone else on a similar path. Wellness expert and author Heather Grzych explores the pervasive influence of the negativity bias - the psychological tendency to focus more on what's wrong than what's right - and how it can disrupt our physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. Drawing from both spiritual and Ayurvedic wisdom, she unpacks how this mental habit creates emotional and physical impacts and blocks the subtle channels of the mind, leading to imbalances in the doshas and depletion of vitality. Heather shares practical tools for shifting out of this feedback loop. She reminds us that healing is not about perfection but about letting go - of criticism, shame, and old stories - so we can return to wholeness. High blood pressure is not a disease! Learn how to lower blood pressure with dietary changes and increased intake of specific nutrients that act as natural blood pressure remedies in the body. Address the root cause of hypertension rather than just treating the symptoms. 0:00 Introduction: What causes high blood pressure? 1:15 Blood pressure explained2:10 How to lower blood pressure and address nutritional deficiencies 2:38 Natural blood pressure remedies4:33 Fixing insulin resistance to lower blood pressure Over 90% of hypertension is labeled as having an unknown cause, which is very profitable for drug companies. The endothelial layer of your arteries has insulin receptors. When these receptors are damaged, your blood pressure can increase. Too much insulin allows too much calcium to enter the cells, so calcium channel blockers are often used to lower high blood pressure. However, the connection between insulin resistance and high blood pressure is usually ignored. A protective shield called the glycocalyx typically covers the endothelial tissue on the inside of your arteries. When this shield becomes damaged, it can cause a cascade of problems, including cellular damage, inflammation, calcium buildup, and excess clotting. The glycocalyx is vulnerable to damage from glucose and fructose. A low-carb diet and intermittent fasting can help you get healthy and lower your blood pressure quickly. Insulin resistance creates serious nutritional deficiencies that must also be addressed to lower blood pressure. To help reverse high blood pressure, increase the following nutrients:•Vitamin D •Magnesium glycinate•Potassium •SulfurTo fix insulin resistance and lower blood pressure, it's important to avoid carbohydrates, sugar, starch, and seed oils. Remember that it may take a few weeks to notice blood pressure changes. A food log can help keep you on track. If your blood pressure is decreasing, but you notice that the top number remains high, focus on reducing stress. Ensure you sleep enough, take long walks, or try ashwagandha to lower your stress levels. A Note from James:So Dr. Oz—television personality turned government official—this is such an interesting thing. He's going to be the new administrator of the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services, CMS. He's going to be in charge of all Medicare and Medicaid. What does he know or think about these parts of our government?Medicare and Medicaid, combined with Social Security, make up the biggest part of government spending. So it'd be interesting to know what he thinks. On his show, he'd talk about everything from medicine to alternative medicine to other healing methods. I want to know how he's going to handle things in the government. This is a republishing of a past podcast I did with Dr. Oz, but it still describes his approach to medicine. And I think, as a citizen, this is useful. That's why I wanted to share it again. He's going to be working closely with RFK Jr. and Marty Makary (who's also been on this podcast and is now head of the FDA).So here's Dr. Oz.Episode Description:In this re-released conversation, James speaks with Dr. Mehmet Oz about his philosophy on medicine, self-care, and the critical role nutrition plays in overall well-being.
