The cycle of life often follows this pattern: Sin in our lives leads to oppression, where we suffer the consequences of our sin. Oppressed people then cry out to God in repentance, and God graciously and faithfully brings deliverance, peace, and God's blessing once again. After deliverance, we all too often forget the Lord, and the cycle of sin tragically continues. This is the story of ancient Israel in the Bible. The book of Judges illustrates this cycle. After the Israelites were blessed with the Promised Land, they quickly forgot the Lord, sinned, and found themselves oppressed once again. In their despair, they cried out to God, and He sent Judges to deliver them.

An essential guide to healing from oppression-based trauma, for everyone left outside of mainstream conversations There are many books on trauma healing that can change people's lives. Yet when queer and trans people, people of color, and all of us living at the margins look for books that reflect our own experiences and that specifically name the oppression we experience as trauma, we're left empty-handed. There's little that speaks to the specific traumas we experience: homophobia, transphobia, institutional injustices, isolation, medical trauma, and discrimination at every turn. We deserve to have ourselves reflected and considered in the world of trauma recovery. In Healing the Oppressed Body: A Therapeutic Guide for Radical Self-Liberation (Penguin, 2026), somatic therapist Andrea Gutiérrez-Glik provides the best tools and approaches to healing trauma and filters them through an anti-oppression lens, making sure they're uniquely impactful for all of us at the margins. In these pages, you'll learn how trauma is stored and processed by our minds and bodies and how we can work with our amazingly flexible brains and nervous systems to create pathways to healing. You'll understand just how and why trauma that occurs in our earliest days can affect us throughout our lives. You'll learn to embrace your Internal Family, making yourself whole. In Healing the Oppressed Body, Andrea Gutiérrez-Glik lovingly offers us the best, most radical solutions to tap into our sources of healing. Along the way, you'll discover tools and techniques for emotional regulation and therapeutic modalities to heal from oppression-based trauma. Whether inside the therapy room or on your own, in the pages of Healing the Oppressed Body, you'll learn how to heal through growing compassion for all parts of yourself and others, finding community support and love, and celebrating the freedom to be your true self.Andrea Gutiérrez-Glik, LCSW, is a psychotherapist specializing in treating OCD, cPTSD, and PTSD, prioritizing women, survivors, and queer and trans folks. She utilizes EMDR, IFS, I-CBT, and ERP to help clients feel safe in the present and come home to themselves. Gutiérrez-Glik is also an EMDRIA-approved consultant for therapists getting certified in EMDR and a regular teacher at Alma, the Trauma of Money(tm), and other mental health organizations. She lives in St. Louis, Missouri, on occupied Osage and Kaskaskia land, with her wife and their child. ART IS CHANGE – Art is ResistanceWhat happens when freedom of expression is under pressure? When speech narrows, fear rises, and the future feels smaller than it should? In this episode, we explore how activist artists and cultural organizers have historically stepped into these moments—not as decoration or entertainment, but as essential agents of democratic life. Through vivid stories from different times and places, the episode reveals how cultural practice reshapes what people believe is possible. In this episode, you'll hear:How public murals in post-revolutionary Mexico helped people see themselves as part of historyHow a single performance of “Strange Fruit” forced audiences to confront racial violence they had learned to ignoreHow participatory theater in Brazil turned audiences into active agents of changeHow a one-minute protest by Pussy Riot disrupted authoritarian control and spread globallyThese stories point to a deeper truth: resistance is not only political—it is cultural, emotional, and imaginative. The episode offers a powerful reminder that movements endure when people can see themselves, each other, and a different future more clearly.Listen, reflect, and consider: what are the cultural practices—large or small—that help keep imagination, connection, and democracy alive in your own community?Notable MentionsPeopleDiego Rivera — Mexican muralist whose large-scale public works helped define post-revolutionary national identity by centering workers, Indigenous history, and social struggle. (https://www.britannica.com/biography/Diego-Rivera)José Clemente Orozco — Influential muralist known for his stark, often critical depictions of revolution, human suffering, and political power. (https://www.britannica.com/biography/Jose-Clemente-Orozco)David Alfaro Siqueiros — Politically engaged artist who advanced muralism as a tool for mass communication and revolutionary consciousness. (https://www.britannica.com/biography/David-Alfaro-Siqueiros)Billie Holiday — Legendary vocalist whose performance of “Strange Fruit” transformed a protest poem into a defining moment of cultural resistance. (https://www.biography.com/musicians/billie-holiday)Abel Meeropol — Teacher and activist who wrote “Strange Fruit,” one of the most powerful anti-lynching works in American history. She highlighted the value and importance of being serious about fun as fun allows people to collaborate and stay engaged over time.Katy stressed the importance to think beyond ideation, and make sure that things are in place for policies to be implemented. For her, it is key to success of legislative theatre as a community-based policy-making. In a world that profits from your confusion, real clarity is an act of rebellion. Today we're sitting down with a man who has spent his life in the arena (as a soldier, a statesman, and a straight-talker) to cut through the noise on masculinity, truth, and what it actually means to be free, Nick Freitas. We're talking logical fallacies, the Marxist oppressor/oppressed framework, and why so many men today are disgusted, deflated, and dangerously close to giving up. But this episode isn't a pity party, it's a plan of attack. We're going to talk about why masculinity is under assault, how to stop painting yourself as a victim, and why there is no virtue in suffering, only in overcoming it. If you're ready to trade your grievances for a mission and your excuses for a legacy, this one's for you. Has the US government and foreign press genuinely argued that slaughtering people is the best way to free them from oppression? The Jerusalem Post seems to think so in relation to Gaza. The Pentagon and others seem to think this is a valid argument in Iran as well. With the President bragging about his new bunker under the White House, and with the releasing of a photo implicating the pressing of a red nuclear button, on top of the Vice President being positioned as a manager of the chaos and threatening nuclear-suicide-vest bombers from Iran, the whole thing starts to feel like Vault Tech's plan from Fallout - personally drop the bomb, or create the optics of it (then blame Iran). This of course, is on top of foreign agents claiming their enemies are about to attack the United States and cause 10 times more damage than 911, precisely the general number given by the vice president when he claimed that Iranians were going to detonate a nuclear vest in an American city. And Karoline Leavitt claiming the country was founded on Judeo-Chrisitanity is about as ridiculous as claiming Luciferian Masons founded the same. This is part of a broader religious propaganda, which clearly is stemming from an angry, emotional, sacrificial, tribal God that has replaced the concept of the one true God in America.*The is the FREE archive, which includes advertisements. The Seelys explore how these tests developed in scriptural commentary, highlight Sarah's often-overlooked trials, and discuss connections to the Book of Abraham. From this episode, we can gain a deeper understanding of how ancient traditions can illuminate the covenant path and enrich our own discipleship. Not all is as MEH as it first appears when John embarks on the story of Jesus' entry into Jerusalem. Palm fronds and an ancient plea turned praise adorn the political street theatre of Jesus astride a baby donkey. It calls to mind the Singing Resistance happening in Minneapolis - St. Paul in these days and weeks (and increasingly: months). When things get spicier for Jesus in the Jerusalem week ahead (which spans a full HALF of John's gospel), perhaps folks look back on that moment in the streets, drawing strength and inspiration when all seems hopeless and lost. Perhaps they ponder more deeply and poignantly what Jesus meant by that grain of wheat that needs to be buried and die in order to bear fruit and live.Sermon begins at minute marker 2:52Scripture:  John 12.12-27Resources:BibleWorm podcast: Episode 336 - The Executed King, Amy Robertson and Robert Williamson, Jr.Josephus, ancient historian.Passover, ancient pilgrimage festival and contemporary Jewish holiday, recalling the story of the Exodus of the Hebrew people from slavery in Egypt.Theatre of the Oppressed, originated by Brazilian director and activist, Augusto Boal, in the 1970s. In this episode I talk with Arlene Goldbard about her new book that I think takes on a quiet but consequential democratic problem: how, in unstable times, the hunger for certainty can slide into surrender—of discernment, of agency, and responsibility.Rather than offering answers or heroes, her book The Intercessor uses story to explore how people learn to stay in relationship, inquiry, and ethical choice without handing their power over to charismatic leaders, rigid belief systems, or the promise of spiritual or political shortcuts. In this conversation, we explore three deeply relevant themes:Intercession as a practice of discernment, and learning how to listen without disappearing yourself in the process. How artists and cultural workers can function as bridges , helping communities resist the pull toward false certainty. And repair as a practiced skill, not an abstract ideal, but rather personal, communal, and spiritual repair that only happens when people remain accountable to one another. You're right to call that out. No reason to shrink the ecosystem. Here it is restored—full cast, fuller descriptions, URLs embedded in the titles, and organized by the four categories you've been using.Notable MentionsPeopleArlene Goldbard: Cultural critic, novelist, painter, and longtime leader in community-based arts. Drawing comparisons to historic liberation movements—from the Israelites to Gandhi's India—the argument is simple but explosive: this is not a divided country. It's an oppressed majority held down by fraud, manipulation, and elite control. Using newly released census projections, FOIA-exposed formulas, Supreme Court cases, and population migration data, the hosts claim Democrats are currently holding between 42 and 50 congressional seats that would not exist under an honest census and constitutional districting
