Snad nejznámější žijící postavou na české železnici je pětapadesátiletý Pavel Peterka, který obsluhuje v jídelních vozech z Prahy na sever Německa. Ty jsou letos postupně nahrazovány moderními vagóny s bistrem, ale Peterka u dráhy zůstane: “Bude se mi stýskat,” říká v dalším díle podcastu Host Reportéra, “ale ono to půjde.”Populárním se stal díky své povaze. Vždy dobře naladěný, zdvořilý jak z filmu pro pamětníky, ale zároveň kdykoliv připravený prohodit se zákazníky pár vět na libovolné téma a upozornit je na každou zajímavost za oknem.Od doby, kdy se o Peterkovi začal zmiňovat ve svém díle spisovatel Jaroslav Rudiš, ho občas zákazníci aktivně žádají o společnou fotku. Stal se přítelem umělců, inspiroval divadení hru a dává rozhovory. “Já jsem ale pořád jenom obyčejným hospodským,” říká v podcastu, “pokorným služebníkem Nejvyššího železničáře.”  Letos v létě zažívá zvláštní situaci, kdy na překrásné trase podél Labe obsluhuje střídavě jak ve vozech dosluhujících, kde pracoval třiadvacet let, tak i v těch moderních s bistrem.“Loučení jsem se bál,” přiznává. “Klasický jídelní vůz, ta příjemná hospoda s ubrusy na stolech a kulatými lampičkami, je už dávno jakousi mou druhou manželkou, mám ho takzvaně v uších. Stačí jediný nezvyklý zvuk, abych okamžitě zbystřil.”Jistá melancholie zatím v Peterkovi přetrvává, zároveň ale uznává, že má změna smysl. “Bylo už potřeba soupravy zrychlit, vylepšit pasažérům možnost připojení k zásuvce, k internetu a tak dále.”Charakter jeho práce se mění. I v bistrovozu zůstaly stolky, ale bez ubrusu, a namísto třiceti se k nim vejde už jen osmnáct hostů. “Prostor je tam jinak uspořádaný, ale není třeba plakat, protože pořád ještě cestujícím čepujeme plzeňské a podáváme svíčkovou. Sice z naší kuchyně neslyšíte naklepávání masa ani prskající pánev, ale máme velký konvektomat, který umí téměř všechno. Sázená vejce se šunkou či parmezánem dostanete výborná.” Pavel Peterka se pokusí zachovat i na stísněnějším prostoru duch restaurace, ve které se lidé rádi setkávají. Na závěr podcastu ale vyjádří své přání: “Kéž by aspoň jeden z těch úžasných starých vozů skončil v muzeu!”
